So, I cannot stand the taste of protein powder, and the best "shake" I can come up with is mixing it with Almond Milk and putting a packet of Stevia in there to sweeten it up a bit.
What is your go-to recipe for protein powder? I need some ideas.

I just stick with the protein powder and water (sometimes milk). What brand/flavors are you using? Some brands taste better than others. My favorites are:
1. Dymatize Elite Gourmet (any of the chocolate flavors)
2. Optimumum Nutrition (I've only had chocolate)
3. Muscle Milk (All of the flavors have the consistency of a milkshake when mixed with water)
Also, a good shaker bottle is key.0 -

Well right now I've been using Body Fortress Chocolate. But my roommate uses a Vanilla in another brand I don't like. I've also tried my brothers Chocolate Brownie, which he seems to love, but I'm not a big fan. I don't know. It's not the taste that bothers me, so much as that aftertaste.
I do have a Blender Bottle. Once I finish this jar I may try one of the ones you just named.0 -

You should try websites like bodybuilding.com or dpsnutrition.com because you can often get smaller serving sizes (~5 or 10) to determine if you like them and want to get more without purchaing a 2 lb jug. I've never used Body Fortress, but from the kinds I have tried, anything that doesn't have 'chocolate" in the flavor name (i.e., chocolate peanut butter, etc.) usually isn't that good IMO.0 -
Body fortress is cheap, mixes well and has a decent flavor. Try changing what you're mixing it with. Plain greek yogurt and oatmeal both take very well to protein powders. Add in additional fruit, nuts or whatever you'd like. It's all in what you prefer, but I've found that those two are both pretty good to start with.0

Between the peanut butter and protein powder there's plenty of protein, and they don't taste bad... I have a hard time with protein shakes as well:-/0 -

I will definitely look into that. I've noticed that a lot of them have serving sizes of 2 scoops, but I don't feel the need to have 50g of protein in one sitting. So I usually use one and it takes me twice as long to get through the jug. Thanks!0 -

Thats what I have. The Chocolate PB one. But I'll try it with something else. Thanks.0 -
I absolutely LOVE Unjury protein powder, which I think you can only get online @ their website. Flavors are chocolate (splendor tastes better than original to me), strawberry (didn't love that one), vanilla (good just with skim milk), chicken soup (was actually good), unflavored, and they now have cheese but haven't tried it. Good thing is you can order sample packets to see if you like it first... Downside to this one is that it is very temperature sensitive and cannot be used in hot (over 130 degrees) foods/liquids. So, you can have 'warm' hot chocolate.... Other than that, this is absolutely my go to protein powder. Now, for other than your standard protein drink flavors, I love nectar powder. Has some great flavors and you can find sampler packs online to purchase a variety of their flavors to try out first... Good luck!0

You may need to get a different protein powder.
I add vanilla protein powder to my cereal in the mornings, and to my afternoon greek yogurt.
I also do the protein shots you can buy at walmart. They taste like dead rats, but they have zero carbs or sugar, and its over quickly.0 -

mmm, you had me at dead rats.0 -

And WHY would you know what a dead rat tastes like?0 -
I use chocolate protein powder to make hot cocoa instead of hot cocoa mix. Just put a scoop in a cup of milk and heat it. O_O #SOGOOD0

I believe all why protein powders are subject to a certain amount of "denaturing" when combined with hot liquids/foods.0 -
1c milk
1 giant azz scoop protein
frozen banana
blend until you are annoyed with the noise
Enjoi0 -
almond milk, 1 scoop of vanilla protein, frozen berries/fruit, ice, blend..0

Coffee+ 1/2 scoop of protein powder and 1/4 cup skim milk = YUMMY quick on the go early breakfast.0

Whey protein makes me want to barf, but I like soy just fine. I'd try a different type of protein to see if you find one you like. Genisoy chocolate is pretty good in milk or even just water, and makes a decent protein "pudding" when I mix it with yogurt.0

this is my go to recipe also...almond milk the same body fortress chocolate pb you use and the frozen banana...also sometimes I add in some sugar free pudding. I have used the ready to eat cups and i have used the dry mix and added a little more milk. I have also added extra PB or PB2. The pudding and frozen banana make it just like a milk shake yuuuum0 -
I mix it with fruit and make a smoothie. One of your five a day and my protein shake in one go.
I use Whey to Go by Solgar.0 -
1 scoop Isopure vanilla
2 spoons of oatmeal
1/2 tbs of cinammon
1/2 cup of blueberries.
Water or almond milk............
Bam!
Another great option is pouring a scoop of protein to your pancake mix or with cookie mix.....................and you get a superb snack.0 -
Maybe a blended smoothie might be up your alley, also using a protein powder that has smaller granules (yes it is possible that you have a more coarse granules). Checking out a GNC or health product store that has a large assortment of protein powders they can help find you one that has smaller granules to more easily mix in and possibly have sample sizes to purchase (a couple servings in each sample pack). Also finding the right flavor and the right things to add in. It is a task but if you want to go the protein powder way but don't like the powder then it's all about experimentation.
I found a pharmacy brand (six star excellence, muscletech) was actually really good and I have had other protein powders and hated them. Too grainy for the most part, but this one blends so well you barely can tell it is in there!
Or you can up the high protein meats or legumes in your diet (at a similar calorie rate) and then no need for the powdered stuff0 -
The EAS vanilla is pretty sweet (IMO) so maybe that would be a good choice. I add protein powder to oatmeal, pancakes, yogurt, baked goods (search protein bar recipes) and anything else I can think of. Just today I took 1/4 c. pumpkin puree, 1 tbsp. peanut butter and 1/4 serving vanilla protein powder and mixed that together, spread it over a tortilla and topped with half a banana. Roll and eat ... delicious!!!!0

That's a fantabulous idea......
I personally don't mind the taste of any of the protein powders I've tried...I just stick to chocolate. I've never thought about making hot cocoa though...I'm totally doing that this weekend around the fire.0 -

If you go to www.bodybuilding.com they have plenty of info regarding all this and more. I go there for supplement tip/reviews, workout tips, whole meal plans etc. Very good website; don't let the name fool you, it's not all about just weight lifting.
I use ISO Sensation 93, bought Vanilla Bean but not nearly as good as the Cookies N' Cream, or Cafe Brazil which I tried. Right now I sometimes add 3oz milk and 3oz water and a banana and blend it up... I really enjoy it like that. But it may be too thick and rich for you so just up the water quantity.0 -
I use Biochem whey protein, and generally always have 3 flavors: chocolate fudge, vanilla, and berries and whey. I mix them with almond milk (chocolate or vanilla, unsweetened) and crushed ice in a blender. Depending on the day I may add any of the following to get different flavor combinations:
Frozen banana
frozen berries
1 T sugar-free jello pudding mix (lots of flavors available!)
Almond butter
Cashew butter
peanut butter
pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spices
fat free cottage cheese and sugar free cheesecake pudding mix (makes it taste like liquid cheesecake, with tons of protein!)
chocolate hazelnut milk instead of almond milk, plus chili powder, cayenne, and cinnamon
greek yogurt
egg yolk, nutmeg, and cinnamon - tastes like egg nog!
vanilla extract
peppermint extract (very good in chocolate)
By switching up the flavors, I feel like I am having a treat every day, and I never get bored. I have found that as time goes on, I have developed a fondness for the taste (except the plain berries and whey), and don't need to add stuff nearly so often unless I am craving a treat, which I rarely crave anymore. Now I mostly just add stuff in in order to increase my protein, fiber, calories, or all of the above.0 -
I buy the unflavored stuff, sometimes the flavoring is just too strong. I mix mine with almond butter and oatmeal with cinnamon.0
-
This isn't a shake idea, just another fun way to use your protein powder...I make a protein fro yo (it's an idea I got from Muffin Topless - www.muffin-topless.com - but tweeked a little):
1 scoop of protein powder
1 tbsp unsweetened natural cocoa powder
2-3 oz plain nonfat greek yogurt
1` tbsp natural nut butter (i like almond)
*Sometimes I add a small splash of soy milk
Mix together and put in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes. I also like to add 1/2 tsp of sprinkles at the end. Great way to deter a sweet fix and still eat clean!0 -
Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard comes in a huge array of flavors, and mixes really easily. It's even available in an all natural form, with no artificial flavors.
I've only tried the strawberry so far, but I'm quite partial to it - it basically tastes like a strawberry milkshake when made with 8oz of 2% milk. It even tastes ok mixed with 4oz of water.
