Scale going up :(

So in Nov-Dec when I was working out and watching my diet I weighed 155 lbs. Down from 162. Yaay .. Some part of Dec-some part of January I slacked a little and stopped caring about food/workouts. Didn't gain much.. 156-157. Got my act back together and started watching food/workouts. I workout 5 days a week and I sweat .. no easy workouts. I challenge my body. I eat anywhere from 1000-1500 calories depending on what's cooked that day. I don't restrict myself of any food. My weight is going up. No I am not gaining muscles .. my clothes aren't loose. What am I doing wrong? Why does this happen? I am very upset. I put so much effort into my workout and to see negative results really demotivates me. As of today I weighed 159.

Really? Becuase I was always coming to 1000 calories if I was restricting my food intake. I read about upping calories. I did. I don't eat sweets at all. Because I don't like how it taste, however I do eat well. Lots of veggies, moderate carbs, proteins. I don't think my food is a problem to be honest.

It could just be water weight for muscle repair if you've just started exercising after a break. How long has it been since you started back? Are you eating enough protein?

1500 sounds reasonable but when working out intensely 1000 is low. If you eat that low too long you'll risk lowering your resting metabolism making it harder to lose. Try to keep the average closer to 1500.

Start here. It will answer your questions of why and what to do about it. You can still gain weight eating "clean" and healthy. You have to know your stats and where you should be calorie and macro-nutirent wise.

No, that's just wrong thinking. I, and pleny of other people on here, still eat the foods we like, you just have to find a balance. Eat right 80% of the time and the other 20% don't worry about too much as long as you're not going over your calorie goal on a consistent basis. And exercise to help make up the difference.

I think the problem may be those 1000 calorie days. How often is that happening?

sounds like you're not eating back your exercise calories. So many people on here who work out like crazy and eat 1200..don't lose. almost like the harder they work..the less it works.

why not work out three or four days a week..and set your loss at 1 lb on mfp settings..and eat back your exercise calories. try it and see if it works.

I've only lost 7 so far..but that's how i'm doing it. It is fun cause you get to eat a lot and you still lose. It is like not dieting at all.:smooched:

I don't have those 1000 days too often. And when I do have it, not like I am intentionally doing it... it wide be chicken or veggies for dinner and tuna sandwich for lunch.. I don't worry about losing weight. Even if I don't for a month I am okay because I know I am doing all the right things. It's gaining weight I am worried about.

For the most part I'm doing 1600-1800cal/day everyday regardless if I workout that day. I was doing well with that until PMS hit last week, but back on track and also just started doing weights again...so the scale will need to be avoided for a week or two until my body loses some of the soreness and period bloat. I'm excited to see the results over the next 6-8 weeks...just in time for Spring!
