Trainers say getting nauseous isn't normal. Is it?

I've had 2 trainers, from 2 different gyms, become baffled when I tell them how I get nauseous after working out really hard. They both looked at me like I was crazy, and acted like they've never heard of anyone getting nauseous from working out before. I felt stupid.
Is this rare??

if you are really working very hard, like maxiumum effort for a sustained amount of time and really pushing your limits, getting nauseous is normal. If you're training lightly, it's not.
There are debates as to whether you should carry on pushing yourself past the point where you feel like you're going to puke and/or actually puke or not.
Eating too much prior to exercise can cause nausea and vomiting as well, even if you're not pushing yourself *that* hard. Making sure you leave enough time between your last meal and your workout helps with that.0 -
I definitely do get nausea if I work out a bit past my limits. It's not just you. Maybe they just wanted to seem too cool for that. haha.0

Definitely normal for some of us when we've been pushing hard during our workout. More likely to happen the longer the time from your last meal/snack. Eg doing an early morning workout before breakfast. Carbs help to fuel our workouts by supplying energy quickly. It takes longer for your body to convert stored fat into useable energy for muscle cells. Hope this helps :-)0

It's happened to me a couple of times when I've overdone it. I look at it as my body telling me to stop and take a break. I don't let myself get to that point anymore.
ETA: It's not rare. My husband tells me stories of bootcamp. They like to work you til you puke...:sick:0 -
Feeling nauseous is perfectly normal and actually a good sign. It's your body learning to work properly again during the change over from burning sugar/carbs foods that people are now dependent on and switching to FAT.

iv PUKED after a workout more than once . train harder than your body can handle this will happen . i assure u
your trainers obviously havnt trained hard enough :P haha jus kiddin0 -
Doing HIIT makes me want to puke.......0

My other half throws up after running on a regular basis. It is just the body not wanting to use energy on digesting food as it needs it for your body to recover.0
-
I puked the first few times I worked out with a personal trainer No idea if its normal but I doubt its rare!0
-
I don't think it's rare at all. Go to the finish line at a marathon or half marathon sometime.0

my brother had a trainer say that in order for him to build muscle and bulk up, he should circuit train and if he feels nauseaus he needs to immediately stop.
all. lies. try doing p90x...i feel nauseaus at some point during every workout. lol i'd say its completely normal and not rare.0 -

disclaimer - I could never purposely have an ED (like bulimia)...
BUT - this would be awesome...lol. I keep hoping for a good old fashioned 5 day virus. And I'm only SORT of kidding.0 -
To me, it would not be normal. Working out to that point is excessive and seems dangerous. I never have felt nauseous and would slow down if I did.0
-
I used to feel sick when I would run for 30 minutes. My brother who is really into fitness and ex-marine said puke and keep going. Probably not the best advice but definitely made me laugh.0

I won't say it is normal, but if you push at 100% effort for 100% of your workout, you will eventually puke. I only did that once, had to run to the gym loos. It was very embarrassing, but I tend to train really hard and that day was no exception...the fitter you get, I think the less likely you are to feel the effects too much.0

Yea, I feel nauseated sometimes when I exercise. Particularly if it is only a couple of hours since a large meal.
Also - when I have pushed myself right to my cardio limits I feel sick and have once actually been sick...0 -
Okay, first I have to say the word is NAUSEATED. Nauseous means you ARE causing nausea, i.e. "a nauseas smell"
Now that that's out of the way, it is normal but not really a good thing. If you are feeling sick, you should really take a break.0 -
My son is a trainer - and he thinks if his people aren't nauseous he hasn't done his job. I am not sure this is good but I am only the mother of a trainer.0

That made no sense to me.Okay, first I have to say the word is NAUSEATED. Nauseous means you ARE causing nausea, i.e. "a nauseas smell"0

Dont know if you been watching the latest season of The Biggest Loser but that Jackson dude spends most of his workout time THROWING UP!
If you gonna work out hard - you gonna hurl.
Watch runners - marathoners.
Lots of them hurl all the time.
Not saying its healthy but its definately normal if you work too hard. Like someone above said, there are various schools of thought as to whether this is healthy to push yourself to the point of retching or not.
As for me, I have felt it once on a run. Suffice to say I stopped and walked until the feeling passed.0 -
When I work really hard or if it is too warm I sometimes get nauseated.
I've gotten sick while running and just kept running because I didnt' want to stop on the side of the road to hurl. For some reason I thought it would be less embarassing having people see me running down the road and throwing up! I did finish my run and felt fine.
Thinking of that day makes me ....lol

I get nauseous sometimes. Especially when I really push it or drink too much water.0

I think there's working out. Shouldn't be nausous
Then there's working out hard, which your stomach might give you some pause.
Then there's pushing yourself to the absolute limit, and yes, I've puked after doing that. I wouldn't recomend working out that hard as a routine but, it's not abnormal for it to happen.0 -
I get nausious when I do crunches
So do I.0 -
Less water during the workout, dont eat immediately before, take about ten minutes before eating after a workout.
has helped a lot0 -
I had this happen two nights ago. I was doing my first night of month 2 insanity which is the fit test and then max interval circuit. I pushed really hard during the fit test and my HR was really up there and when I was doing low plank obliques, I threw up then about 50 minutes later I threw up again just doing some cardio. I was really exhausted. Then ALL night long, I had a very acidic stomach with heartburn. Not comfortable at all!0

According to google, it means either.

I don't think it's abnormal.
I became really nauseated yesterday after pushing myself doing RI30 level 3. Plus, I thought the 1.5-2 hours I waited after supper was long enough but it may not have been. I was trying to do the cooldown stretches when I decided to forget it & lay down on the floor to keep from puking or passing out. Honestly hate when it happens.0
