HELP!!! Need recipes for someone who doesn't cook

Ok, I need to start cooking for my husband. There is only one problem. I am not good at cooking. I hate to cook. I need something like crock pot recipes or something easy. Not a lot of spice.

  • It sounds like you need practice. You could try your library (or online) for some step by step recipes. There should be pictures to demonstrate the steps of the recipe. Also, if you have friends who cook, see if they'll give you some pointers (ie let you cook with them). You could also see if there are any cooking classes you could take locally. Cooking is easier with the right equipment. If you don't have good knives, cutting boards, pots and pans, measuring cups/spoons and a scale then it will be more difficult. Here's a link to the crock pot recipes on the Betty Crocker website: http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/preparation/slow-cooker-recipes. Also search for crock pots recipes on mfpmyfitnesspal with the search feature and you'll find there are lots of recipes posted. Pick something that sounds good to you and good luck.

You can also check out pinterest...tons of recipes on there, and people sometimes have them grouped into quick ones, crockpot ones, etc.

So very much this. I've never been much of a cooker myself, and as I'm scouring the internet for tasty healthier recipes, I find myself cooking a lot more than I used to, and having the right tools absolutely makes a world of difference. It takes the "nearly impossible" and makes it "possible". I also find YouTube and Google very helpful when I don't know how to cook something, or "how to slice a ___" or "how to make the perfect hard boiled eggs" or whatever it is I need to know. Chances are someone out there has written up instructions or for the more visually oriented + hands on folks like me, made a video of it!

Start watching the Food Network or the Cooking Channel. Seriously. turn it on and just leave it on, especially a weekend day that you just need background noise. It helps to see them cooking. Alton Brown is especially good at showing and explaining. Rachel Ray makes good, easy, realistic meals.
  • So easy I promise! Batch/freezer cooking, I pick like 3 recipes and make 2 bags of each recipe and it takes me MAYBE 40 minutes, toss them in the freezer, remove the night before you want it- or if you like me the morning of and defrost after work. Toss it in the oven and your done! *husband could even do it. As a helpful clean up hint I line my pan with tinfoil- no nasty dish to clean afterward. Hope this helps!

Throw a pork shoulder in the crockpot with a bottle of bbq sauce & cook on low 6-7 hrs & then shred. You have shredded pork for sandwiches, tortillos, etc. You can do the same thing with boneless chicken.

Look for crock pot (slow cooker) and microwave recipes on-line or in cook books. Both those tools provide simple ways to cook healthy meals. I don't cook but I have been putting healthly food on the table for 30+years, My mother was always surprised when she came for dinner that the food was tasty, low calorie and low fat.
  • I'm pretty terrible, but because I'm the only one making changes in my diet in the household I took over cooking. Some things the family likes and I find manageable are:

    http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/ranch-chicken/d6d4d076-b1ae-4bc0-b0ac-f49bcf600c0d

I've adapted the recipe to leave out the ranch, and sometimes we make it with pork chops.

and some favorites are spaghetti with ground beef and taco burgers. I know it's not the best option but we use jar spaghetti sauce when we cook it. And for the taco burgers we brown ground beef, add El Paso taco seasonings, and then you just put it on a bun with anything else you want (lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa so on.)

I have a chicken and dumplings recipe I got off of Betty Crocker also, but it takes an hour to prep. Message me if you want it and I'll send you the link.

I hope it helps. I hate cooking so it has to be simple and easy or I won't do it. Practice has helped and I've gotten a lot better at it.
