HI All,
I was at the Dr yesterday as I have not been losing weight and was getting frustrated-
she was asking me about what I eat and when I told her, she thinks that I am getting paranoid and may be developing a eating disorder....I don't think so at all,
in the past she has given me xenical- however I don't take it as I don't always eat alot of fat-
my diary is open if anyone wants to take a peek- I have stopped with the wine as well and still have not lost anything- I just discovered this site so it's only about a weeks worth of food-
I am 5'3
40yrs old
156 pounds
Thanks all

IMO you are definitely not eating enough. You ate 900 calories one day. If that is normal for you, I can definitely see where your doctor would be concerned.0
-
You are not eating enough. You only broke 1200 calories one day and that is the bare minimum. Eat more.0
-
I just read through your diary. Maybe you should show it to your doctor. Your calorie goal may be a little low and it may be worthwhile to talk to your doctor about that and make a plan together. BUT you do seem to be eating and eating healthy.
I've had (have?) an eating disorder and you don't want to be too obsessed, but the doctor may not have a full understanding of your habits.0 -
You need to definitely eat more sweetie0
-
im the same i never eat of my 1200 calories and scared of going near anythin with fat it, this has only been for the last 3 weeks but i cant even force myself to eat it people have been telling my fat is too low on most days but i thought that was what makes u loose weight by not eating fat ! :S0

You eat low calorie, but you eat a variety of foods (many fear foods for patients with eating disorders) so I do not think it looks like one. You just want to lose weight and your DR is a bit dramatic. Maybe see if your insurance covers seeing a nutritionist or dietitian? Do you exercise everyday? Add at least 30 mins, even if it is a brisk walk.0
-
Agree with the others. Eat more.
There's a thresh hold number your body needs just to sustain it's everyday function, and without meeting that need your body will go into survival mode and just cling to what it has rather than allow you to lose weight.0 -
Eating more may seem like the wrong thing to do if you're trying to lose weight, but for me at least, I lost more weight when I ate around 1600 calories a day and was exercising. I am taller than you at 5'6", so your number may be a little lower than mine, but it really shouldn't be below 1200. Maybe try eating 1400-1500 calories for 2 weeks and amp up your exercise a little just to see what happens?0
-
Three things I see:
1. Under eating - not a balanced diet
2. Not enough water
3. No exercise (which would require even great calorie intake to balance things out)
Recommend showing your diary to your doctor and I agree that your desire to lose weight is causing you to restrict yourself too much which could lead to other health issues. I think that you need to talk to your doctor about developing a healthy meal plan and exercise goal.0 -
I stopped on the day I saw you're eating 627 calories.... I agree that you do need to eat more (at least your BMR) and you're not. Figure out your BMR and TDEE(read this post if you don't know it-http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12)0

that was me but if you workout it's ok and eat healthy fats like nuts and such. It can be done. My diary is open if you want to see.0 -

You lose weight by eating at a caloric deficit not by avoiding all fat. Some fats are actually GOOD for you and your body needs them to function properly.0 -
In my opinion, you are not eating enough, MFP already calculates a calorie deficit and you are lower than that deficit everyday, you should be trying to eat your 1400 cals a day that MFP calculates and drink lots of water....I don't know too much about the "starvation mode" that I have heard about, but I do notice that when I eat more (healthy foods), I lose weight quicker and more steady. If you body is getting too little food, it will try to hold onto that food because it is not sure when its next meal will be...if you are fueling your body more, then the lbs will start to shed. Not an expert, but this is what I have "heard" and experienced. If the Dr. is concerned about your eating habits, then maybe he thinks you should be eating more as well. Try not to obsess about it, just make healthy choices, somedays you will be under, somedays you will be over, but you will find a balance.
Oh and water, water, water....it really helps!
Good Luck!0 -
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: you need to eat more and eat more nutritious foods......eat more fresh or frozen vegetables and lean meat and fish and stay away from anything that comes in a package or box. your body needs good fuel and enough to keep it running well....you need some fat, like olive oil0

After looking at your food diary I can truly understand why your doctor is concerned that you are developing an eating disorder. The thought of eating more may be scary, but you should take that thought into consideration. Look at food as fuel. You need to fuel your daily activities and you need to fuel your workouts.
There are a lot of useful resources on this site to help you get a better understanding of what you need to do; In Place of A Road Mad (IPOARM) is one of them. I've included the link below.
Best wishes.

If your portions are measured correctly, then you are definitely not eating enough. MFP calculates what you should eat in order to lose, it already has a deficit calculated in, so eat all of your calories.0

That's not true. Some fats are good for you. Monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) like avocado, nuts and dark chocolate can actually AID in fat loss. Omega-3s found in salmon are good for your heart and joints.0 -
im gonna have a look into good fats and where to find them thanks0
-
Copy your diary and send it to your doctor...TLet them make the descision....But my guess they will say you have misinformation on what your goals should be and a misconception on what is nutritional and what is not.0
-
Definitely consider eating more, though, I think it's a bit of a stretch you're developing a disorder.0

This is a major diet myth! Fat doesn't make you fat, being at a calorie surplus does that. The body needs fat for many functions (vitamin absorption for instance) and if you don't get enough you may suffer health consequences like dry skin, hair loss, hormone imbalance, etc. Also, fat can help you stay full longer.
In fact, it's a wonderful thing to bulk up your calorie intake by adding calorie dense foods to your diet like nuts, seeds, healthy oils (olive, canola) and avocados. Eat a well balanced diet at a calorie deficit instead of trying to deprive yourself of a much needed nutrient.0 -
You're very inconsistent when it comes to logging your food, especially on the weekends. Could it be that your un-doing all of the good work you've done throughout the week? Also, today's breakfast, a western omelet, seems like the calorie count for that item is extremely low, you have to watch because some of the items in the MFP database are incorrect. Good luck in your journey.0
-
Yeah it looks like you aren't eating enough calories, or protein.
Today it looks like you a HALF of egg for breakfast?0 -
An eating disorder isn't about what you are eating, it's why you are eating it. If you are eating like this because you have feelings of guilt or think that if you do eat more you'll be "fat", that's a disordered way of thinking. If I said to you that you should be eating no less than 1800 calories a day, does that "scare" you? If you are eating this low because eating more "scares" you, you may be on the brink of disordered eating.
No one on here are professionals, we have no clue what is "right" on what to eat, how much to work out, etc. But if my doctor told me she was concerned about why I was eating how I was eating, I'd look into it. I'd follow through and see if the doctor may be correct.0 -
You are not getting an eating disorder.Just dont get paranoid. You have time. You don't have to hurry.Give some time.First 3 weeks, body needs to adjust to the diet and exercise regime.Once done, you will definetly lose weight. You need to eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.Eat healthy nuts, fish and lean meat...Exercise slowly. You will be fine...0

I'm completely with the others here - you aren't losing weight because you aren't eating enough! The other thing, your age - you're 40? I'm 43 - I have found it really really hard to lose weight the 'normal' way these last few years - it does seem to slow down, but I can guarantee you that if you stick to this crazy low, non-balanced, diet you won't lose weight. I've learnt more in the last few weeks of being here than I'd learnt in years - I've moved to the road map (you've been given the link) and it is fantastic - you're a bit shorter than me, but you need first to work out your BMR - the absolute minimum you need to survive if you're unconcious - and make sure you always eat that - minimum - it'll be around 1400-1500 cals. Then you need to work out your TDEE - the amount of energy you use on a daily basis (mine is around 2100 cal) - anything you get under that will result in a loss - mine is set to TDEE minus 20% - which is 1761 cal - I don't always eat all of that, but I try. I'm losing every single week, my body is changing shape - and I feel GOOD! I'm working out, doing resistance work and cardio - that's how you lose weight :-) Don't starve yourself. I don't think for a second you have an eating disorder - I just think you've got confused about how to lose and are getting desperate - no need!0

Stop listening to the fear mongering "facts" out there by the low fat crazed world.
Dietary fat does not make you fat. Dietary fat does not equal body fat.
You only gain fat when you eat above your maitaince calories. Dietary fat is good for you and your body needs the healthy fats... so eat them.
To the OP, why are you eating so little? You are no where near the intake you should be. Figure out your BMR and TDEE. Ensure you NET at least your BMR. You are eating far too little and therefore not getting in the nutrients your body needs and you are trying to sustain too large of a deficit which will cause you to lose muscle. Less muscle equals a slower metabolism. Seriously, EAT!0 -
Thanks for the responces- I don't eat alot- this morning my western was 1 tablespoon-
I usually just grab a tablespoon or 2 of different food- I generally go to a serve yourself salad bar during the week- so I can take just a bit of what I want.
weekends I don't really eat much so I don't log- I will start to log this weekend- I will pick up some nuts to eat-
the issue is I just don't feel hungry-
I will try to eat more
the only exericise I do is speed walks for 30 minutes Monday - Friday
Thanks again for all your help everyone0 -

Wait you only eat 1 or 2 tablespoons?0 -
Eat the full 1200 calories each day, maybe up the protein a little. If you don't eat enough, your metabolism won't work to help you lose weight.
focus more of your exercise on strength building, so you have more muscle. then, when you are sitting, your metabolism will still be burning that body fat.
Most of all, don't stress! We are not on the biggest loser, where you have to lose 10 lbs a week or something totally silly. Relax, eat well, exercise well, and live life.0
