You are all so YOUNG. I still remember...
Television:
1. When there was no television. I was 6, when my dad brought home the huge box with the 4" square screen that got 3 channels in black and white.
2. When popular kids television shows were Beanie and Cecil (the puppets... not cartoon characters), Buffalo Bill and Howdy Doodey, Winky Dink and You...and whatever mom and dad let us watch during the few hours of TV time during each day.
3. When the TV channel went off at night, leaving only a 'test pattern' on the screen.
School:
1. When everyone said the pledge of allegance in the morning.
2. When girls were required to wear dresses and skirts that went to below the knees, and boys would get in trouble for 'sagging' their pants down on their hips.
3. When teachers were in charge of the class, and we felt safe all the time.
Telephone:
1. When you were lucky to have one in your home, and your parents OWN IT.
2. When your phone number started with a word. Our phone number was Garfield 20385.
3. When there was an egg timer by the phone to let you know how long a child could use the phone, talking to a friend.
Computers:
1. When computers were special, government owned BRIAN MACHINES that took up a whole room in some big building.
2. When looking up information for school meant going to that big set of Encyclopedia Britanica or World Books. Then, you actually had to write everything down on lined sheets of paper for handing in to your teacher.
3. When reading meant going to the library and actually holding a book in your hand.
4. When a social network was your family and friends at school.
Parents:
1. They were the people who you counted on for everything from food and shelter to clothing and wisdom.
2. When kids knew who was in charge. Parent got love and respect without question. Our lives depended on them.
3. When Dad went to work, and Mom stayed home.
4. When Dad mowed the grass....and nobody smoked it.
Shopping:
1. Was something that mom did at the grocery store or got delivered to the house.
2. When the milkman, the egg man, the Fuller brush man, the Jewel Tea man and soft water tank man all came to your home; and you knew each of them by name.
3.When Blue Chip and S&H stamps were a valuable collectable.
4. When dishes and towels came in boxes of laundry soap; and kids got GOOD prizes in their cereal boxes.
I could go on and on...'cause I remember the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and more like they were just yesterday.0 -

I had a pair of these. I still have a scar under my chin from my first fall, going down the sloped sidewalk in front of our home.0 -

Sorry. I am old and still haven't figured out how to post photos on MFP. My pictures are still in my memory; but I think most old folks would agree that they can still see those 'images of the past' without photos.
Please be patience with this old lady. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.0 -

I appreciate what you wrote as well. You brought me back... I remember having to write line for line out of a book and not use the internet. You are an awesome grandma, I am sure!0 -
