Not giving up anything in particular (I'll be fasting on Ash Wednesday and on Fridays). I also donate to the food shelf basket at church weekly.0

DH and I were discussing that last night. With the exception of his birthday (mid March) we're going to give up eating out. We're also going to give up 60 extra minutes a week of our time to do reading and crafts with our kids (doesn't sound like much, but there are 13 hour work days).
Personally, I'm going to add in morning prayers and do them with my daughter at night, working through the basics.0 -
I gave up giving up stuff for Lent years ago. Still rockin' strong!0

Hope everyone's lenten goals are off to a good start!!! I have a friend who is not Catholic who uses Lent as a time of renewal and setting habits for the year, it is when she lost her first 20 pounds toward goal.
I love the positivity and goal setting everyone has shared. Good luck all, I hope these weeks of prayer and self control lead to kicking these last 5 to 8 for me and all good things for you!!:flowerforyou:0 -
Giving up cigerettes and refined sugar. I know if I gave up just one, I would double the other. This is going to be tough.0

Pizza and ice-cream......*slow, labored breathing*0

I think I've already given up all of my vices since starting MFP, there's nothing left! So I'm going to try to convince my body to give up 15 more pounds!0

I usually give up something I am really addicted to, like the Computer or the Television. This year I am giving up playing ALL computer games.
As a Catholic, I fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday I also abstain from all meat products and treats on Fridays.0 -
I gave up watching tv...sounds easy enough until you realize that you can't watch the weather or cooking channels, NCSI....usually I give up wine, dessert, going out to eat.....ect...0

I gave up Facebook! Last year I gave up soda and with the exception of one occasionally, I don't drink it anymore. I gave up FB in 2011 for Lent and it was really liberating to not feel as though a social network had control over me - since it's become a time suck again, I decided it was time. Maybe for good!0

Yes, TV can be really difficult to give up. Not only weather channels, you cannot watch the News. So if something happens like a hurricane or an earthquake, you are never quite sure what happened. Newspapers give pictures, radio gives descriptions, but only television really takes you there.
But not watching television does give you time to pray and to meditate. It gives you time to telephone friends and relatives, or to write letters or do crafts. It is surprising how much time you find you have.0
