Love handles question ???

I know that you can't spot reduce, I am just looking for a general idea.

I am looking to lose the love handles/back flab. I am currently doing the 30 day shred by Jillian Michaels which is the 3-2-1 system for those who don't know (3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, 1 minute abs for 25 minutes) and I have recently starting running on my treadmill as my endurance is getting better. I have lost 2 lbs in 4 days, I only have 6 lbs to go so there is definitely more inches than lbs to be lost.

My question is, is there any other exercises I can do to optimize losing those love handles? I eat clean so my diet doesn't really need any changing, I do 60% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fats as I am a balanced oxidizer. If you don;t know what this means, a quick google will answer that for you.

I also drink 48-64 oz of water a day resulting in a billion trips to the washroom so I am well hydrated/flushed out. So if somebody could point me in the right direction in regards to workouts that would be great.

Thanks.

The only thing you can do is continue to lose weight and/or reduce your body fat percentage.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Keep going.

"Optimizing reduction of love handles" sounds a lot like spot reduction to me. Just keep working on losing fat- you can't change your body's fat loss schedule. Heavy weights and a moderate deficit. Also, your percentages don't add up. Do you mean 40/30/30?

What everyone else said, in response to that OP.

As for what you said about the 40/30/30.. It's definitely possible that's she's going over on carbs. [ That's my thought at least. ]

    Yes to the weight lifting!
Also in my experience, a deep-tissue massage works wonders at bringing circulation to those often clogged-up tissues, moving out toxicity and water retention...try it. You'll see what I mean:)
  • Not sure about reduction, that would have to come from overall weightloss. But if you wanna work those areas, try side bends. You can be on your knees on the floor, touching your fingertips to the floor at your side. Make sure not to slouch, keep the back straight. Try touching with fingertips first, then knuckles of your fist, then a flat palm. You'll really feel it! Any twisting abs to work obliques also work great.
  • I only consume 150 grams of carbs a day and they are all complex carbs. There are no simple carbs. And yes I meant 40/30/30 whoops! I do sit ups, push ups, transabdominal oblique crunches, jumping jacks, butt kicks, jump rope, boxing punches, chest flies and other strength training (forget what theyre called), bicycle crunches, and running on my treadmill.

What is a deep tissue massage? Just a really good massage perhaps at a parlour?

It sounds like you're already doing it right. Though if you're looking for a tip, I'll say you can't go wrong by toning the muscles in that area. Find moves to target your obliques, lower abs, and lower back. Nobody needs shooshy muscles!

With how little weight you have to lose, you should probably be eating more than 1300 calories. If you're using MFP to calculate your calorie goals, aim for a half pound a week. If you're using a TDEE approach, go for 10-15% below, rather than 20% below.

Too large of a deficit can make you lose a higher percentage of lean mass, meaning you'll lose a smaller percentage of body fat.

thanks for your reply. do you recommend going by tdee or the 1300? so 10-20% below tdee?

Deep tissue as opposed to swedish (which is a lighter touch). A deep tissue massage which focuses on the lymphatic system. I don't know what a parlour is, I go to a spa, and a certified massage therapist.:)

I am in Canada and they have massage parlours here, as well as spas. I will look into it! What exactly does it do?
