Confusion with calorie burning!

Hello there, I'm pretty new to the whole exercise thing so if this is a stupid question, I apologise.
Every day I've been going on walks and I use a iPod app to count steps/calories burned. So example, this afternoon I burnt exactly 100 in 30 mins, I was then however disheartened to see someone else had walked for the same amount of time, same speed but had burnt double my calories...:( I thought it might be the apps so I did an experiment and tried with a different app only to find the same result. ...
Am I doing something wrong or missing something obvious, thank you and sorry again if this is a silly question.

My advice, never compare your results to anyone else. That will drive you insane! People burn calories at different rates, lose weight at different lengths of time, etc. Do what works for you.0

don't worry about it. it's not a calorie race. a person that's larger than you will burn more than you. just like when you start losing weight you'll notice that your burn rate decreases. just get in quality exercise and pay no attention to the "burn"0

If someone walks faster, they will burn more calories in the same amount of time.
If someone is a bigger person, they will burn more calories in the same amount of time.
If both, they will burn WAY more calories. Don't worry about it. Just do you and you'll be fine.0 -

This.
For the record, calories burned are based on weight and intensity. That's it.
Also don't forget that people can edit their entries. They may have come up wih their number somewhere else or just arbitrarily decided they burned more.
Which brings me back to - ^^^ this0 -
Thank you all, guess I'm over thinking things :P0
