To some extent! Though I wouldn't recommend it without understanding something about what it's intended for. IFFYM is more or less for those that have "paid their dues" and understand advanced dieting and how macros affect them in total. there's a reason my training partner can lose weight eating 300g carbs, and I can't =(

No. Nice to see someone trying to make money from the idea, though.......wouldn't want to leave an opportunity lying around.

Yep. That's exactly what I do. It's the only way of eating that makes sense for my lifestyle and preferences. :smokin:

Check these threads out, dude. SideSteel and Sara have laid it all out. It's no-nonsense and really simple.

Hmm? yes I understand the concept and agree with it. If you go back in my food diary, you will see I eat fast food almost everyday, just junk. But my point was, it's not recommended for those that have trouble losing weight, the obese, or the diabetic. Also, it's not the optimal way to lose weight...as you may ignore important things like micronutrients, fiber, and important minerals. You may also sway away from healthy sodium intakes, or forget to include a proportional potassium number. Of course it'll work. You're just eating less calories. Is it optimal for health and performance? Probably not.

IIFYM works great for me. Ignore the "no middle ground" people who insist that you either eat "clean" or you exist entirely on junk food. Read the threads linked above to truly understand what IIFYM means. It's a healthy, flexible and sustainable way of eating.

The idea, at least how I understand and follow it, is:

As long as I am withing my total calorie goal, have met my micro nutrient and macro nutrient targets anything is fine if it fits.

You still need to be intelligent about it and it is not "an all fastfood or junkfood" diet.

I eat brocolli, salmon, brussel sprouts, greek yogurt, blueberries, chicken breast etc. every day but leave space for cake, ice cream, pie, donuts, white bread or whatever I am craving at the time. I am as healthy and fit as anyone I know.

IIFYM, if done intelligently, is phenomenal. IMO

Maybe we should coin it IIFYMm. The small m for micro nutrients.

Glad it works for you. Some of saras numbers are off (but are whats been generally accepted as fact up until now). Protein is high, but at least she did say LBM.

I try to calorie cycle every now and then to avoid hitting plateaus - which I recently did after stoping my cycling.

Whatever is "healthy" and easy to follow, go for it! There is always a better way of doing things out there.

Duuude. If you really think her numbers are "off" you go and put up in a thread with your "optimum" recommendation for protein for someone at calorie restriction and doing strength training.

Going by what you wrote (isn't search - and memory - wonderful?) your understanding of protein and nutrient absorption is uncertain at best.

^^this pretty much covers it, thank you.

Also, someone seems to be confused with absorption v utilization v use for other than protein synthesis for muscle gains in that first link.

Being flexible rather than trying to live up to some standard of the "healthiest diet EVA" like I used to is one of the biggest reasons I've had success this time.

That's interesting. I'm obese and have lost nearly 60 pounds in seven months. I have energy levels that I haven't felt since I was a teenager. I rarely eat any fast food. I eat out about once a month. Mostly I cook my own food from scratch. IIFYM means you eat for nutrition rather than some bogus definition of "healthy."
