Question for runners.... Am I calculating this right?

I have been running about once a week for the past month (I'm going to run more from now on), but I used Noom to track my run today and I just entered the information into an online pace calculator and googled about my times I have been doing.

I ran 6.21km at an adverage speed of 16.8km/ hr (km not miles) and it took me 22 minutes.

According to the calculator I am running 5:35 minute miles (miles not km). I read something online that says that most people aim for 6 minute miles and train to get down to that. Is it possible that I am just a natural born running freak? I used to love running when I was about 9-11 years old, but never did much after and was never serious about it.

Am I calculating it wrong?
I'm not trying to brag at all ... it is just hard to believe that I am running so fast after little to no experience?
I could have the info all wrong - so I was just making sure :)

I'm fairly new to running but good at maths. :-) Your calcs sound fine, I would say that the only uncertainty would be the distance (I don't know what Noom is). If it's a GPS based thing, my (fairly limited) experience is that they can overstate distances by quite a bit. I've done quite a few runs that my phone-based GPS app has tracked as 20% more than the distance reported by google maps. There is a slight discrepancy in your numbers (16.8km/h is actually 5:45 per mile not 5:35) but the numbers other than the 5:35 are consistent.

If it's accurate, then that's awesome! (Actually, even if the distances are overstated a bit, it's still great.) I'm currently trying to average12 km/h on my runs, getting close but not quite there yet. :-)

Thats awsome if that correct, but double check that your distance is right :)
theres a few apps you can use like nike run, that tells you how long you've run and how many calories, if this isnt accessable try running on a treadmill if you would like to be certain and check the distance!
Hope this helps, and keep up the running :D
  • Thank you so much for the reply! Oh! whoops - I must have typed in the wrong number. Thank you so much! I have never ever been considered an athletic person so I am so motivated to see what I can do now :)

Good luck with your own PB! Running ( I have found out) is such a stress relieving thing for me and it is nice to have some goals to work towards on my jouney as i'm sure you could agree too! Congrats on the weight loss too! That number is incredible!
  • Good idea with the treadmill and I should try the Nike app instead of Noom I think it is a bit more reliable from the comments online :)

Wowee, that is impressive! As others have said, just double check your route distance, but you could just be super naturally athletic!
