Question about Salad
Replies

I started by just using smaller amounts of my favorite dressings. I worked it down to the fork-dipping method and now I'm at the point where I don't use dressing at all! I put about 1/4 of an avocado, meat (usually leftovers from the night before so it varies), 1 tbsp of dried cranberries and call it a day! It took a long time to get this way though, but I really do still love my salads!0

I too do not like FAT FREE ranch...I do however like LIGHT ranch! Also, I read the servings and cals...most servings are for 2 tablespoons and I find that I can easily do ONE. If its in a container with a lid and you shake the hell out of it the dressing will get everywhere and taste great! So yup I stick with what I like and it works!0

Try balsamic vinegar. This is what I put on my salad 99% of the time. I love it!!!!!! The other 1% I get a light blue cheese or something similar anduse the fork-dipping method as someone else described. A lady at work told me about that, it's quite brilliant actually. :drinker:0

I make my own using roasted garlic grapeseed oil and red wine vinegar and then garlic powder/black pepper to taste.0

bolthouse farms makes yogurt-based dressings that are significantly lower in calories and fat.
^This! I love, love, love the Bolthouse Farms dressings. They taste so creamy and decadent - The honey mustard one is my fave. They are usually found in the refrigerator section in the produce aisle. Trader Joe's has some great yogurt-based options too. I also love Newman's Own Sesame Ginger Lite. High in sodium, but it's so flavorful, a little goes a long way.0 -
Zesty Italian.0

you can reduce the balsamic to make it sweeter. Just pour some in a skillet on the stove and let is reduce over medium heat for a couple of minutes. It will become more syrupy and tasty!
That sounds yummy!!!!!!!! I am so trying that tonight! Thanks! :flowerforyou:0 -
I generally just use vinegar and salt on my salads, but i spice it up with real bacon bits(25cals for 7g) and crumbled goat cheese (which is really creamy and low in cals). I also add some kalmata olives or wax peppers for flavor0

Just wondering what everyone uses to put on their salads??? I LOVE a good salad, but the obvious yummy part is the dressing. I love ranch & french----however I do not like fat free ranch, and the fat free french/western has a TON of sugar.
I've tried just using a little EVOO/Vinegar...however, it's just not the same. What are the best options so that you're not racking up a ton of calories and sugar?
Thanks!!!
I'm not sure what brand you're buying, but WishBone Light Sweet & Spicy French has 30 cal per tablespoon and 2 gr. sugar-
NOT HighFructoseCornSyrup (which I avoid)
I also make my own Catalina with Hunt's Ketchup, vinegar and stevia in the raw.
I'll send the recipe to anyone interested.0 -
Japanese ginger dressing. A little goes a long way.0

Marie's also makes yogurt dressings that are 40-70 cals/2 Tablespoons. I love the blue cheese! So rich, and you would never know it's not full fat!0
-
I love Olde Cape Cod brand. They have at least three dressing that are between 20-45 calories. I can't remember if it's one or two TBSP, but I think it might be 1. I love the wasabi Ginger Sesame one and the Balsamic.0

Truthfully I too love RANCH and FRENCH (together) on my salad
:):)
I too HATE ff salad dressings. period.
What I do is depending on how many calories I've used for the day (this includes fats, proteins, carbs, etc), I decide between my "ranch and french" or a balsamic dressing. If I've been "good", I go for my ranch and french, and if I'm limited I go for the balsamic0 -
Ken's Light Asian Sesame is fantastic! A little goes a long way!0
-
I often whip up 1 tablespoon of my favorite dressing with 1 tablespoon of light sour cream, adding just a touch of water or 2% milk if it's too thick (which it often is).
I like Marie's Light creamy ranch dressing but usually don't like the light dressings. Catalina Light Done Right is pretty good, too.0 -
I just looked online and there is a Trader Joes but it's almost 2 hours from where I live.
I'm going to try the Bolthouse Farms Ranch & Honey Mustard----and also the Wishbone Light Sweet & Spicy French!!!! Thank you everyone for all the great replies!!!!!0 -

Ok, back! I use hidden valley ranch sometimes and 1tbs is 70 calories. If I am going to use ranch then I put my salad in a tupperware container add the tbs and shake it. That way you still get the taste but you don't over use it,0 -
Walden Farms. Zero calories and there are some good flavors and not so good flavors. I like Balsamic Vinegarette and the bacon ranch.

Try this one! 1tbsp oo 1 tbsp red vinegar 1tbsp dijon and pepper to taste! Yummy...cut a half an apple in your salad to get that awesome sweet against the mustard and pepper!!!0

i like salsa mixed with light sour cream0

make your own ranch with the HVR dry mix, light mayo and LF Buttermilk or LF/FF milk.
I also make blue cheese dressing with 1/3 cup light mayo, 1/3 cup LF buttermilk, 1/3 cup greek yogurt, juice of 1/2 lemon, 2 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp salt & pepper and dash of tabasco. Fold in about 2 oz blue cheese crumbles.0 -
I use 2 tablespoons of hidden valley ranch dressing0
-
I go with the "light" versions vs. fat free and try not to use as much as I would like to. Every fat free dressing I ever tried tasted really horrible!
^This! ... fake fat has a nasty aftertaste (to me).
I use a coffee scoop to measure my dressing out .... after awhile 2 TBL is plenty for most salads
Reduced fat ranch = fat free greek yogurt, milk & ranch seasoning mix
Newman's Sesame Ginger dressing is really good .... 2 TBL = 35 calories (nice & spicey)0 -

This too, is a really good idea!!! Otherwise sometimes I get huge clobs on some parts, then none on others! LOL ... never even thought of this.0 -
