Excited for this diet but need some help

Hi! Been using myfitnesspal for about 2 months! Doing well! Have already lost 26 pounds!!!! Have one question though. Trying to fix my goals to where they are reasonable. Is there someone with myfitnesspal to help me figure the best goals out? Like my net calories per day & calories per week & daily calorie deficit & projected weight loss per week? Just not quite understanding what the goals should be? Worried they are bad since they are red? Please & thank you for the help!!!

P.S. With the daily calorie limit do I need to reach it or stay under it?? Been hearing both!

  • what is your height, weight, exercise regimen, and daily life like? do you know your body fat percentage? what is this diet that you're on? how many calories have you been eating?
  • I'm 5'9", 360, I don't really have a regimen yet but I either go to the gym or use Jillian Michael's 30 day shred every weekday. I'm not able to drive so I'm usually at home, but try to stay busy so I don't eat too much. I'm not sure of my body fat percentage, that's bmi right? I could try to figure it out. I'm not really on a specific diet, I just watch the calories, sugar & things I eat. I've been mainly eating vegetables & meat. Not drinking pop unless at a restaurant, and if I do I only eat fruit or vegetables the rest of the day & drink juice or water. I try to stay under 2070 calories a day. That's what myfitnesspal put me at anyways, unless I didn't calculate it right.
  • That sounds a bit low...I estimate your BMR (using scooby's workshop) at ~2400 so you shouldn't be eating less than that. In any case you should be AS CLOSE to your calorie target as possible, not under it. So, it should say 0 calories remaining.
  • Oh really? Is there anything on the app I can do to change it? And I should be trying to eat enough to 0? I heard both & had gotten confused. I'd heard alot of people saying 'Oh the point is to stay under!' or 'No, you have to get to 0' so I didn't know which to believe! I will try to get to 0 more often now though! The net calorie goal let me change it to 2400.
  • That's great. You have a lot to lose so being too aggressive in the beginning can backfire. It's better to eat as much as you can while still seeing progress than to aim for rapid results, burn out, give up, and never reach your goals.
  • In the beginning so far I've just done my best to get a schedule & do the best I can & try more vegetables. So I hope that's not too aggressive. I'm new to the dieting, I've been trying for so many years but realized I hadn't been doing it right. Hopefully I am now so far!
  • just don't give up..ask for guidance and advice when you need it. If you blow it one day just do better at the next opportunity. This is your life and as long as you never stop moving toward your goal you will eventually get there!
  • I definitely won't give up! Thank you for your help! Its helped so much already!
  • You're welcome! Best of luck to you.
