Good for you for starting somewhere. Set small goals for yourself at first and then you can start building momentum!0
-
I'm right there with you. Working out is not my thing and it just makes me wanna run outside to smoke within 5 minutes. But I push through and do it regardless.0
-
Thanks , It's actually very relieving to know other people have workout irritations as well.0
-
Just take everything one step at a time. I'd still do what you're doing at first, but try to fit the pop and butter and other goodies within your calorie goal. The less of those things you eat the more real food you will get to eat and you will start seeing that as a positive. I'd try to quit smoking if you wanted to after you make some successful changes to other aspects of your life cuz if you do that cold turkey now you will go crazy Good luck!!0

Hungry...I applaud your honesty! I can plow through a whole box of chocolate covered cherries without blinking and eye, so I know where you are coming from. What you gotta ask yourself is this..."Are those sticks of butter worth the remorse I will most certainly feel after I eat them?" If the answer is yes then you aren't ready to commit. I know from where I speak. Really explore where your head is at with your weightloss. If you feel certain that now is the time to make a change...then baby go for it! Give it all you got and then give some more!
I'm beginning to sound like a Tony Horton commercial...lol. Best of luck to you...0 -

WARNING:
be careful on this website you will find a lot of mentally ill and extremely insecure people and anytime you feel good about yourself they will try to knock you down. it's annoying. I think of them like the chubby little mushrooms in Mario, and just keep it movin. As for the rest of us we are cool. Smoking is going to get in your way when you try to lose weight. It's hard to exercise when you don't have any lung capacity. I smoked for 20 years. Took me 18 days to quit.0 -
I smoke and yes it can suck at times - but also it gets easier - try yoga to learn breathing and it does kinda help cut down a bit when you are forced to breathe deep - and then learn to breath properly during work outs.... it does help... (I was actually told by a doc they would rather me lose first and then focus on quitting due to weight gain...
As for pop / soda - just stop ... cut it out if you need to slowly but switch to water. Add lime (I hate lemon)... your body and your skin will love you greatly for it - along with your teeth, liver, overall digestive system...
It does get easier - you just HAVE to WANT it!!!
We're all there for you!!! But first chose one to lose first would be my advice.0 -
50% of the battle is honestly logging your food. If you will log everything you eat, even if you blow your calories every day, you will at least be aware of the choices you are making. Eventually, you will make better choices- when you are ready to, and it will seem like less of a chore. Also, I would make sure you have your goals set to 1 pound a week. I tried for a year to lose 2 pounds a week, and it is just too much added stress and food guilt. Also, if I were you, I wouldn't even worry about exercising right now. You can't out train a bad diet, and weight loss is 80% diet. Get one figured out and then just try to move more. Walk around the mall, park further away, etc. Getting 10,000 steps a day makes a huge difference.0

Cancer stuff- gave up the other stuff a year ago and I gained like 60 lbs *big grumpy frown*0

Lol, thanks for the troll warning (I know they lurk everywhere) 18 days to quit? did you do it cold turkey?0
-
Good luck! Stay stubborn and you'll get there.0
-
Keep your head moving in a forward direction. Being stubborn will help if you use it in a positive. Hang in there. It just 92#. You can do it! Loose the pop and soda and the weight will come right off!!!0
-
Hmm.. maybe for once my stubbornness will work for me. I think that's the first thought that made me really smile since I decided to lose teh fat.0

I used to smoke and workout, now I just workout but I do it for fun because if I make it a "have to" is when it becomes a "grrrrr."
I quit a year ago.
You are more than welcome to add me. IF you choose to quit, invest in cinnamon sticks. They helped me a great deal.
EVERYONE is welcome to add me if you're active.0 -
You got a friend in me.0

Good luck!0

I enlisted in the Army when I was smoker; talk about mean! Thankfully, I quit about 7 years ago. You can add me if you would like!0

we all love everything we arent supposed to have!!! Dont stress. Set yourself a goal and then use the support here to help you get there. It's not easy whichever way you look at it, but it is definately worth it, you just have to allow yourself a treat every now and then so you dont go crazy!!0

I smoked up until January 2011. Quitting was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Losing weight and keeping it off is definitely right up there on the challenging list but I have done a few things that has made it feel different this time around. First off, I've proven time and time again that I can lose 20 lbs on some fad diet or by being super strict but I also proved just as quickly that I could put it, plus a few more, right back on as soon as I stopped the fad. Secondly, I used to always start the newest fad on a Monday and never worked out. Well, for me,I decided that if I was truly dedicated to change then I need to do it all the way around.
I started using the My Fitness Pal ( love it) on a wednesday instead of a monday and I log everything....and I mean everything. Not putting it down doesn't mean I didn't eat it. If I happen to go over one day then I learn to make better choices. I joined Planet Fitness on a Wednesday and after the two weeks it took for me to gear myself up to actually go, I have been 100% dedicated since early November. I started slow and set small goals and I am seeing slow but steady success. My only advice is that if you are truly committed to change then you will be successful. Eat what you want within your calories and don't deprive yourself but be honest about it. Good luck and congrats on this positive decision.0 -
I can honestly say that I enjoy going to the gym.. but when i started.. I just knew i had to have a different life. I love the Dread mill now.. get a book and do it..
i also love walking walk walking outside.. when the weather allows... Which is pretty often, in California.. But I have to say.. to me.. stopping smoking may come before losing weight.. not sure but yea.. smoking sucks.. lol (a pun)0 -
I like your icon.0

Cancer stuff- gave up the other stuff a year ago and I gained like 60 lbs *big grumpy frown*
Well when I quit the cancer stuff, I upped the fun stuff, and found this great fitness technique, smoke the fun stuff and walk as much as possible with my IPOD. It's my meditation and my work out "rolled" one, lol, i had to smoke the fun stuff when ever i had the urge to smoke the cancer stuff, and it was quite effective, sadly no quit smoking-site will teach you that trick. I even got a one hitter that looks like a cigarette for 3 bucks at a head shop. So i can walk inconspicuously, and have my hit when I feel a nik fit coming on. It's been since August, now the only time I want the cancer stuff is when I see other people I like talking to smoking.0 -

Other then smoking more funny stuff, I also used the low dose patch, not the strong one like they say to. and I didn't put it on until I couldn't stand nikking anymore. and then I would try to go whole days without the patch. now Im not on a patch, gum or anything. I don't even barely smoke the funny stuff, unless im havin a bad day and dont feel like exercising then i do my TOKE-WALK-JAM THING. Some soldier told me it takes 18 days to quit any addiction. I think he's right. Or at least I told myself that. Went 18 days without a smoke and VOILA GONE!!! now i can walk in 711 and laugh at the price of cigarettes, and smile that I'm not going to blow money on them anymore!!!!
THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF QUITTING IS TO NEVER BUY THEM!!!!!! THEN EVERY TIME YOU NEED ONE YOU HAVE TO BUM IT LIKE A BUM. OR PICK THEM UP OFF HE GROUND AND WONDER IF THE LAST PERSON WHO DROPPED IT THERE HAD HEPATITIS OR TD. WELL THAT WORKED FOR ME.
Hope I could help. And the most lovely thing about this website there is always someone awake at any given time up and struggling just like you,and sometimes they are really inspiring when you see people who lost 200 pounds, JUST AMAZING, make me feel guilty about my little 50 I want to lose.
That makes a huge difference. Like you aren't trying to change your life alone. THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS are also trying to do the same thing.
It's kind of like AA only usually without the religious crap, although every once in awhile someone will try to throw it in, like the crazy lady who told me that the I shouldn't bee a vegan because The Bible says God put animals here for us to eat.
I just love having a place to go where people have my same struggle and I never feel alone. I also get great low calorie ideas from a lot of these recipe posts that I never would have thought of in a MILLION years that are SO simple.
Good luck. and if you have an off day the next day you get a clean slate:) Not much in life gives you a clean slate the next day:)0 -
Good luck buddy! I have a long way to go too, and I know it won't be easy for me either.

(I hope I do this quote thing right)
You've been a great help and that statement above made me laugh my *kitten* off, I wont even spin cigarettes for fear of catching something, so not buying them would be an excellent choice. Ugh, I get the biggest urge to smoke after I ear though.0 -
You can certainly add me.....just take little steps at a time and be kind to yourself!!!!0
