hi everyone! i've recently seen some articles claiming that cinnamon, especially taken in pill form, helps to even out blood sugar and also will help to lose weight. has anyone else heard of or had any experience with this? Specifically, if I am wanting to start the south beach diet, does anyone know if cinnamon will help with the carb cravings/carb crash??

I don't know whether it helps with carb cravings, but we use it as often as we can: every day in coffee. One study we read showed that 1 tsp/day was correlated with weight loss.
It certainly has a strong flavour, so if cutting carbs means you're craving FLAVOUR, (and specifically the flavour of baked or rich or spiced things) it's possible that it might help for that reason.
I wouldn't take pills though - a tsp is nothing to put in a cup of coffee or sprinkle on whipped cream (whip yourself from 35 - 40% cream and it's great on a low-carb diet), so it's easy to take the amount from that study that seemed to assist with weight loss. I can only imagine that a cinnamon pill or supplement would be way more expensive than just getting powder or sticks from the grocery store.0 -
dont know about the carb thing, but it does even out blood sugar0

Cinnamon is delicious!! Why would you take it in pill form?
I don't know what its exact health benefits are, but I know spices like that are good for you and the added flavor to your food helps you feel satisfied. I keep cinnamon and allspice around for everything from chicken to coffee to face masks and baths!
But be careful, not all "cinnamon" sold in grocery stores is actually cinnamon.. better to get it fresh in stick form anyway.0 -
I eat cinnamon every day. I mix it into my yogurt and granola, sprinkle it on fruit, etc. Idk if that's making a difference for me because I eat very healthy 90% of the time and work out a lot, but it can't hurt!0

I read something similar a few weeks ago OP. I absolutely love cinnamon, but most of the cinnamon-y stuff I used to eat (muffins, toast, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Pop Tarts, etc.) weren't doing me any favors. Like Courtney, I now put some cinnamon in my yogurt most days of the week.0

Cassia, not Ceylon Cinnamon for blood sugar stability
Chromium Piccolinate
Zinc over Copper (more Zinc, less copper
Fenugreek
and Calcium/Magnesium supplement
For other help with carbs try White Kidney bean extract which will absorb up to 90 g carbs from a meal when taken properly before hand. Good for those occasional spaghetti meals....0
