It was recommended to me to eat only 40g of sugar a day and I am having such a hard time staying under that. I have been trying it all week and haven't done real well....just wondering what other people are striving for. I am trying to lose my last 13-15lbs...so I know I need to eat less.
Thanks!
Thanks!

This is something I have been thinking baout recently also. My sugar intake is pretty high, I think mostly because I eat a lot of fruit. I do not drink pop or add sugar to my coffee or tea, so most of my other sugars come from yogurt, bread, cereal, protein bars, etc. I also have abig sweet tooth so that doesn't help. When I'm actively watching how much sugar I may come in at 50-60g but sometimes probably 100g or over.
Edit: I am also looking to lost about 15 lbs hopefully you get some responses.0 -
I was eating a lot of fruit too and my trainer told me to only eat berries(strawberries, blueberries) that have less sugar if i want fruit. Its still so hard to keep under 40g!!0

Yeah, I think that for now I'm going to focus on choosing more protein and less carbs.....because I naturally eat about 70% carbs and split fat a protein down the middle. My line of thinking....and this is based simply on my opinion not any research that I have done (yet) is that if I eat more lean protein and try to eat fewer carb heavy foods. By carb heavy I mean actual breads and pastas, not potatoes corn etc. that my sugar intake will lower slightly and that I may come closer to a 50/30/20 division of carbs/protein/fat respectively. And most importantly within reason and within my lifestyle.
Edit: Even in my healthy choices I always go for cereal, oatmeal, whole wheat bread etc when making food choices on top of a huge sweet tooth0 -
I have given up on keeping track of my sugar intake. This morning I had a bowl of cereal and milk for breakfast and I am already 7g over the recommended daily intake >:0

I have also been a bit confused so I did some research and spoke to one of my closest friends who is a registered dietician and had further training as a Diabetes specialist. We are supposed to limit our added sugars a day to approximately 24 grams for women and 36 grams for men. This is ADDED sugar. I always go over my daily sugar allowance according to MFP, but when I subtract the natural sugar from the added sugar then I'm ok. Milk has natural sugar, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini, many other fruits and vegetables, etc...
If you have a health reason (i.e Diabetes) then you have to monitor all sugars, but for those of us without any health restrictions then watch your added sugars but don't obsess over the natural ones. Try to have an all around well balanced diet which includes low fat dairy and fruits and vegetables.0 -
mklassy, thanks! Previously I haven't really looked at anything besides calories, but I've been having a tough time losing anything recently and I am just reevaluating what I've been doing to see what I could change. I think I'll just go back to watching calories and exercising and not worry so much about sugar0
