Walking 3 mph at 9 incline and gaining weight?

Realllllly frustrated. I have stayed under my calorie goal and have done at least one half hour lomg treadmill session a day for a week. Some days I even did two. I weigh in on Friday morning and I've gained a pound. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

I understand your frustration. I too sometimes gain a pound in a week. Certain foods seem to have that affect on me(salty foods, high carbs for example). I would worry more if the weight keeps going up week after week.
Try mixing it up on the tredmill. Do short burst of higher speeds, lower the incline, or raise it. I do 30 minute workouts too. My body gets used to it, so I play with my speeds and or incline. Do you work up a sweat ? (I don't think 3 MPH is fast enough). One other thought- are you gaining muscle? How do your clothes fit? Also,I am not a fan of staying under the calorie goal- your body needs fuel.

Yes, you're over reacting. Increasing intensity of any exercise you're not used to doing will normally stress muscles not used before. This will usually lead to more water and glycogen retention. Normal.

I looked at your diary, unless directed by a doctor or nutritionist, you should not be eating below 1200 calories. Most people on here dont see results at 1200s either, unless they have certain restrictions. I gained weight at 1200 cals with workouts 7 days a week too. Change your settings to 1 lb a week instead of 2 as a start.

I also notice you have a little one so you are definitley not living a sedentary lifestyle, so hopefully you dont have your setting set to that either. Here is a link to In Place of the Roap Map. Though it is long the information on it completely explains how the whole calories deficit thing works and gives you a chance to see how many calories you burn on a normal day. Ninerbuff is a good resource too. I don't think he saw your diary because I think he would also say EAT MORE!

Why are you eating so little? I don't know all your stats but for most people unless you are lilliputian tiny 1200 or below isn't enough. If you are are about average height, somewhere between 1600-1800 will work much better AND means you'll be less likely to snack.
  • Thanks for the info! I thinl I need to tweak my calories too. I only walk at a 3.0 pace because I am in a full arm cast and am nervous about being unsteady right now. I will do some more resarch on adding some good calories!
