Best Foods for boosting Metabolism?

For weight loss what foods are you eating for boosting your metabolism? I've heard Grapefruit is the best however I'm not a grapefruit fan.. Just wondering what everybody is eating for this.. Thanks!

Spicy food! Love spicy food. I even like adding tobasco sauce to my scrambled eggs! Over course, these are very short temporary boosts. There's no replacement for interval cardio, weight lifting and water. Buuuut ever bit counts, right?0

Why is there so many articles then to say eat this and eat that for boosting your metabolism? I'm not saying that this IS ONLY method and yes there is no 'miracle' food.. Of course there is eating right ,exercising, etc but didn't know if the health experts / articles out there are really right or wrong. Just asking.0

No food will boost your metabolism. Caffiene will but only a very small amount.
The best way to increase your metabolism is to build muscle. More muscle means more calories being burned each day even when you do nothing.0 -

The only 'food' that has a more than minuscule impact on your metabolism, and even then it's not that significant, is caffeine.0

I was going to make a smart-mouth responce involving the fact that all food boosts your metabolism, but I see that some of you suggest NO food boosts metabolism, rather it's physical activity. Which, when you think about it, makes perfect sense. Why else would we have to pick our activity level when we sign up for this place? Thanks for educating me, peeps!0

Just one question. How do they "engineer" the food to make you want more and not feel full?
I'm not saying eating "whole" foods is bad. But I'm just sick of this idea that anything you buy from a store was created in a lab by a mad scientist and alters your entire body and brain chemistry.
Generally they just add salt or sugar to make food tastier. Not great, but not the work of Dr. Doom either.0 -

Okay...think about it. When you eat spicy foods, especially things with peppers like jalapeño and habanera, one seems to break out in little beads of sweat on the forehead. What causes that??? I'm guessing an increase in your metabolism.0

....also....when I eat, my heart rate goes up and my BP goes up. I would suppose that is defined as an increased metabolism. I therefore try to eat 6 times a day when I was losing the most weight. The idea was to keep my metabolism up and not have big peaks a valleys during the day. Never eat large quantities of food, but to spread it out. It worked. That takes me back to the argument that food does increase the metabolism.0

Honestly, I think exercise does more for your metabolism than any food does.
However, I do feel like certain foods slow me down more than others. Pasta for example, makes me tired after I eat it. I think it has something to do with the way my hormones react to starches. I think there are more highs and lows with foods that have sugar or starch. Fiber and protein, however, don't affect your insulin as much. They digest differently. I don't really understand all the science behind it. I just know that starchy, sugary, or greasy foods make me want to take a nap.0 -
Metabolism is what energy you are burning up now. If you have eatened food recently, then chances are there is glucose available in your bloodstream to burn. If not, then your body goes looking for fuel elsewhere...your fat stores or muscle tissue. There is a lot out there on how to eat, what to eat, when to eat, plus the same particulars for working out.
But metabolism is only half of the food intake equation. During digestion the chyme that exits your stomach (highly acidic) and goes squishing through your small intestines (somewhat alkaline) to be bathed in squirts (highly alkaline) from both your gall bladder and pancreas is further broken down into components for body renewal and building. What is left over goes to the large intestines which largely reclaims the water and discharges the waste.
Pay attention to the small intestine, because this is how energy/glucose gets into your bloodstream and if more goes there than what is needed at the time, then the excess gets put into FAT STORAGE. This may seem strange that something so sweet is so destructive to bodily organs, but it is true: unspent sugar is poison. That why the pancreas excrets insulin--to prevents sugar from traveling through your arteries just waiting around to be used. A well-functioning pancreas does not waste time on idle sugat; it escorts it to fat storage. When this does not happen, all those awlful side affects of diabetes enter the picture. Think blindness and gangrene in unchecked cases.
Educate yourself on this part of digestion and you may gain insights on ways to improve you diet so that digestion can provide you with optimal fuel, when you need it AND raw materials for body renewal and building. Find ways to get not only the right quantity and delivery schedule of calories, but ALSO calories that provide enough vitamins, minerals, digestive enzymes, and hydration to do the work right.
So I don't know of any miracle metabolizing foods, but I have experienced that too much sugar--in any form--results in fat accumulation and once in storage takes a heck of a lot work to get rid of it,
It also does matter what you eat nutrition-wise. Although there will always be personal variability of what is optimal for any one person the old programmer's saying holds true for all: Garbage-in/Garbage-out (GIGO). See the Sunday NYT mag from 24Feb the cover story is about manufactured foods.0
