How do you lose weight quickly without really being able to

Hi! I'm really new at losing weight and I've only been on MFP since the end of March. :grumble: I've lost 11 lbs in 6 wks by limiting my calories 1200-1500, but I know i need exercise to lose fat..the only problem is that there are no gyms here and no sidewalks. I've been lifting 5 lb weights some days but I don't think that will really get me anywhere...I was thinking since my apartment is small that I should buy a yoga mat and do those little workouts they have on tv in the morning. I really wish I could get a treadmill or something but they're so expensive.:frown: Does anyone know any exercises that would be highly effective that you can do at home??:sad:

jump rope!
Look for the Spark People jump rope workout on youtube or on their website, it's about 10-11 minutes and you're just about the same weight as me and it burns approx 120-130 calories per 10 minutes0 -

jillian michaels 30 min burn workouts are on youtube and they don't take much space0

If you have a TV/VCR or DVD you can do Walk Away the Pounds (or similar... Leslie Sansone is the workout person there). I know that one doesn't take up much space at all. I am sure there are other exercise videos that don't take much space either... I"m not familiar with those yet! You can always to body-lifting exercises (situps, pushups) and some weight lifting with the 5 lb and move up from there. Jump rope also doesn't take much space!0

Check out http://bodyrock.tv for some REALLY effective, intense workouts that you can do in a fairly small space with very minimal equipment.0

If you're not on the second floor they have some walking in place videos, but even those can require a large living room. Try stair exercises, they stay in pretty much the same place. I like DDR but in my new apartment I'm on the second floor
And keep up your weight lifting! Toning is important too!0 -

I do Tae Bo before work every morning. You do not need a lot of room, and boy do the amp workouts make me sweat. I got the whole set plus amp bar for $20 on eBay.0

Pilates! Pilates! Pilates! You will tighten, tone and loose weight and increase flexibility. Also, I swear by my weighted hula hoop. They are reasonably priced (you can purchase online) and they breakdown for easy storage. Anyone can keep up a weighted hoop...
Stability balls are great for floor exercises, but that doesn't really include the cardio... A lot of the "on demand" tv programs have free fitness channels that will have work out or exercise stations. For example...I have Comcast and I use the Comcast On Demand Exercise TV which has tons of free work out videos. Do you have anything similar? Netflix? Hmmm...

When I started eating healthy again I lost 10 lbs each month for the first two months only with dietary change and walking. You don't need a gym or anything fancy.0

I have an apartment and I do the Jillian Michaels "No More Trouble Zones" DVD. It kicks major butt and is only around 10 bucks!!0

I live in the middle of know where and don't have access to a gym and get tired of walking/jogging all the time.0 -
Walk with your weights and do arm exercises as you're walking
10 reps and then work your way up to 20, keep rotating them through your entire walk
- bicep curls
- lateral arm raises
- front arm raises
- over-head press
- over-head tricep curls - arms straight up and bend at elbows until hands are at head and then extend up
The arm movements will not only help you tone BUT will raise your heart rate!
In your home do squats, lunges and push-ups none of those require weights or a lot of space.0 -

Oh and don't forget, wall push ups, crunchs, leg lifts, etc., the old basics that still work terrific for getting in a good workout.

I know you mentioned there are no sidewalks where you live but is there a high school with a track or a park where it would be safe to walk? I trick myself into more exercise by parking as far as I can from wherever I am going. I also like the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds videos. I don't know much about the Zumba DVD's but the class was fun and if you could find a Zumba DVD I think you might like it. It is a good workout. Another good workout is the Kettlebells.0

I change it up everyday to not get bored but here are the things i do in my apt.
Jump Rope
Weight Lifting
Jog or Run in place
Dance (recommend Zumba)
Jillian Michaels workout - 30 day shred and some others
Skateboarding (imagine a 250lbs skateboarder..yep dangerous but fun)... and no I'm not doing trick...just riding.
While front arm raises, lift your leg up to your stomach or as high as you can if you were marching. Left arm with left leg, right arm with right leg. Almost as if you were marching or trying to climb a ladder. You will feel that one in your stomach.
Also I been doing lateral arm raises but also running in place.
If you can find a pool or have a pool at your apt, I high recommend that. Talk about burning calories and having fun.
The other thing that I do on a weekly basis is go bowling for more than 2 hours.
Loved the Wii but was a little disappointed that the system would not register when I was doing the exercises sometimes. Spent over $400 for all the different games and equipment and I have lose more weight here than using a Wii system.0 -
im beginning to wonder why i joined the gym!!--they are expensive and scarce where i am but i find it focuses my mind on getting off my a++ --apart from walking up the stairs i do nothing outside the gym--its too hot most of the time to push yourself outside the ac of the gym-i am not sure how the calories burn in the heat of the day??0

i bought a lateral thigh trainer just on saturday for £30, (i'm english)
it's compact, and really works your legs out,
i think it's a great idea because you can use it while doing other things like watching the tv
I really do recommend getting one, i can already feel a difference in my legs and it really gets your heart rate up!0 -
