Worried about the extra skin?

Hello! I have a question! I weight 263 right now and I want to at least get down to 150, Which is 113pounds to lose. I am worried about how much skin I am going to have once I start losing it. Am I going to have alot of extra skin? or will I be able to tune all of it?

I'm sorta in same boat but the way I see it I'd rather be smaller fitter healthier with some extra skin then overweight and unhealthy. Good luck :)

every one is different. You will need to wait and see. I have had some lose skin and then it tightens up..and it will take a while to adjust to your new body. (we usually will find fault with it.). I am still losing and my skin is loose than I would like but I think it will shrink again..given time..best of luck and enjoy your journey .

    This!
But the good news is, the younger you are, the better your skin reduces ... and you're young!!
So use that as a motivation to get it off now, because the older you are, the saggier and baggier you'll be
  • Thank you all :) !

There's a nice little article that talks about loose skin. Definitely worth a read! I just found it and wanted to share it on a few "extra skin" related posts I've seen on here.

you are def gonna have loose skin..but...its better than the alternative.

How many fat old people do you see?
  • How long on average will it take to tighten loose skin? I've lost about 100 lbs and want to lose about 15 more lbs, I'm 22 and very active but my skin had always been soft and not very tight. I worry that my extra skin won't tighten up properly, any information on how long I should wait until I become seriously concerned would be much appreciated!
  • It depends on the the process. If you tone while you loose, you might not have extra skin (or that much anyway). If you loose and then decide to tone, you might be stuck with a lot of excess skin.
It also depends on how stretched out it is. There reaches a point where the skin won't be able to tighten itself up all the way anymore.

you will have it, most likely. I've seen some people that don't have much at all. I have lost 102 lbs so far and I HATE my loose skin, especially in my inner thighs and belly. Granted, I have had 5 babies as well. After I get this last little bit of weight lost I am going to start saving for a tummy tuck. If I got rid of my extra skin, I'd prolly be at least 1-2 sizes smaller in jeans. It's pretty depressing, but I still look and feel better than when I was huge.

I know I'll definitely have loose skin when I'm done losing weight, and initially was afraid of it. But then I decided to not use it as an excuse. Ever since my first stretch mark has popped up BECAUSE of losing weight, I have been ecstatic! It means I'm losing weight, losing fat and getting smaller. Now every time I see them, I get happy and excited. I know eventually I will hate the loose skin I have, but why worry about it now? Especially if you're young, your skin will bounce back even though it will take time. I have heard your skin takes 7 years to completely regenerate, but how correct that number is or how that will affect lose skin I couldn't say.
  • I'll be very sincere, I was 18 when I started losing weight and everyone told me I wouldn't have any extra skin. But I did, and a LOT. I lost 120lbs so far and had to have 2 skin removal surgeries so far, there is one left, I still need to have a thigh lift. I lifted heavy weights and worked out a lot, but still I had lots and lots of skin. It depends on how your body is right now, I was 255+lbs and I had fat rolls, my thighs were very big and my arms were huge. Be prepared to have lose skin, I was young when I lost all the weight yet I got lots of it, so age doesn't really matter. I look wonderful now, no one would be able to say I was so overweight, so I think it is definitely worth it to lose weight, have extra skin, and save up money for surgery in the future.

    Rock on!

Unfortunatley only genetics, time, and training will determine how loose your skin will be.

    Not at all :smooched:
  • Its genetic but it doesnt hurt to moisturise until you drop to give your skin every chance of coping with the change :flowerforyou:
