SUGAR QUESTION - HELP!

Hello!

Obviously moderation is a factor here, but take a look at my diary for today so far (2/26/2013) - (I planned out my work day - breakfast, lunch, and snacks). Problem I'm seeing - I'm already over my sugar limit according to MFP. but its all healthy!

Now I do remember hearing that sugar is sugar, regardless of if its fruit.... and to be honest I don't normally eat this much fruit per day - but I'm trying to mix it up.

Should I be worried about this type of sugar intake? I'm having to relearn how to eat. I try to avoid the generally known - BAD sugars (cookies, etc). I don't normally crave them either. Should I just adjust my settings - how realistic is this?

Sugar lesson - would be appreciated!

Alex

  • Hi Alex! I'm not an expert but I can tell you from personal experience. I ate a lot of fruit too and thought it 'didn't count'. It does count  !

I've found that when I decrease my sugar intake (I used to eat two apples, a whole lot of berries and two mandarins a day). I switched to boiled eggs and rye bread instead. Works for me and I am a lot less hungry because both contain more fat!

Hopefulle the pro's can give you better advice than me ;)

Sugar is a carb and there is no need to seperately track it if you are not diabetic. If you are hitting your carb targets, inlcuding all fruit, there is no reason to be concerned. All carbs eventually become sugar (glucose) in the blood stream.
  • Sugar can have an impact on your weight loss. Being a diabetic, not only do I have to count my calories, but I also have to count my sugar intake. Carbs turn to sugar. Eating too much fruit can have you go over your sugar goal. Have you tried things lower in sugar or even sugar free? It may take some getting use to sugar free, but can be tasty when you get use to it.
  • I haven't really tried altering anything, I want to be able to eat fruit, but like I said - I'm not the biggest fruit plan so I didn't think it would ever be a problem - hence my question, today is more fruit than normal, but still i didn't think I'd be going over so much!
