Up 2lbs in a week??

So here is where I start to want to give up :(. Weighed last Wed and was happy to be down over 13lbs! Weighed today (granted, before going to the bathroom as I usually do) and I am up 2lbs in a week?? I did cheat this weekend (I was out of town, went to parties etc) but I didn't really overdo it, I should have still been below what I burned. Even if I didn't lose, fine - but come on, gaining 2lbs?? I feel terrible :(.

One thought I had - I am on bcp and this is my off/period week, so could I be bloated or something? Sorry if this is TMI, I've only been doing this calorie counting thing for less than 2 months so I'm not sure how this affects weight.

You will not lose weight each and every week. SOme weeks you will, some you will stay the same and some weeks you will gain.

Weight changes naturally. Your muscles could be retaining water after exercise. You may of eaten too much sodium the last few days and therefore holding onto water weight. Your hormones will change your weight. There are a lot of reasons the scale didn't show a lower number. Don't freak out over it.

If you drank a lot and ate a lot it could be that you actually just maintained calories wise but are up on water weight. Copule pounds is nothing. Just get back on track.

weight loss is not linear, and scale weight is highly variable. Expect some ebbs and flows, especially if your sole gauge of progress is the scale (daily fluctuations of ~5lbs are normal).

Try not to worry too much and don't give up! All your answers were in your post. You ate different this week and it is your period week. Also weight loss , I have learned is not always a gradual everyday affair. I was "stuck" at 166-168 for over a month. I kept at my proper calorie intake and right after my period week I am 'suddenly' 162. All sorts of things play into your actual weight on any given day. Some people lose a tad of scale weight everyday and some don't. Just keep going! Your doing great with 13 pounds gone :)

As I said I wasn't that much over - I still tracked and was over 650 on Saturday and 250 on Sunday, and have been back on track since then. I don't think that should mean a gain since overall I'm still under what I burn. Yeah I could be up on water I guess.

Thanks got2bu, that is encouraging! I know that is how it often works but it is so hard for me to stay motivated when I don't see the scale moving - and it has been slowly but consistently moving ever since I started this, so this was a bit of a shock!

Even though you weren't up by much, the extra food along with that extra sodium would of caused you to gain water weight. It will go away shortly.

#1 problem (technically a #2 problem - ha! ) - why would you weigh BEFORE going to the bathroom? Empty bladder & bowels, then weigh. Much better.

And I'm a daily weigher (its just a habit) and I often go up 2lbs in a day. And then it comes right back off the next day, or two days later, or whatever.

So many factors can cause a slight gain, your time of the month being a major one. Also water retention from a tough workout or salty foods, not enough water consumed, stress, etc, etc.

You're doing fine. Take photos and measurements to gauge your progress, and don't rely on the scale so much, it's a fickle little thing!

Interesting! Didn't realize that would cause a water gain, makes sense though thanks!

Yeah I always weigh after #2 lol, but I didn't need to go (and then had to go to work). I really need to take pics and measurements, I've been meaning to do it since I started but now I will do it tonight!

I gained six pounds overnight last night, according to my scale. First, you have to factor in margin of error for your weighing device. It happens, they are screwy, nothing you can do about it. Second, your body fluctuates to a ridiculous degree in the things it retains, and the time frames for such. I have literally gone days without crapping, then suddenly drop four pounds from that alone one day. It's weird, but it happens.

This is true. And 13lbs in 2 months is pretty great
