Does frying your food add calories?

I know, I sound so stupid... But I'm new to this counting calories thing. I bought chicken patties to eat. They have 140 calories, and I'm just wondering if I log that in as a Quick Add Calories, if I fry it, does that add more calories? I'm sorry for this crazy question.

most of the time, yep,0

if you use oil then yes. just measure out the oil and log that too0

If you dry fry it, no added calories. If you fry in oil, you have to count the calories in the oil.0
-
If you add fat to the pan, it will add some calories. Take a guess based on what you are using to fry them.0
-
Probably. Sigh. I haven't been counting any oil used for frying, but I suppose it would count. sigh.0

Not if you use vegetable oil, then it's good for you.
Seriously though, yes, it unfortunately adds calories and fat in addition to the flavour.0 -
They'll absorb some oil as you're frying them, so, yes. It's hard to say how much though- you might want to measure the oil carefully.0
-
It depends on how much oil you use. If I use my pam spray I don't add it, if I use TBSs of Olive oil heck yes I add it0
-
If you're frying it in oil, then yes you should be logging the oil.0
-
Yes your food absorbs some of the oil when its fried.0

Yes, measure the oil you fry it in. Or look on the database for a fried version. The problem with quick add calories is that they don't track your macros (protein, carbs, fat) .
Good luck. :flowerforyou:0 -
No worries, no question is a dumb question, if you don't know the answer!
It will add more calories, depending on how you fry it, because in the cooking process, the food will soak up some of the oil that you use. Frying your food at the proper temperature will make it absorb LESS oil, but not NO oil. If I fry something, it's always pan fried in just a tablespoon or so of oil, and then I just add in that amount to my calories.0 -
Yes, and that's why I bake things like that. I use my fryer maybe 2 times a year.0
-
It absolutely does. The only way to know how much for sure is to measure what you add to the pan and then measure what's left. Or use only enough that none is left in the pan.0
-
I usually add something like a tablespoon and a half per 4 oz of meat.
Which is just a guestimate pulled straight outta my *kitten*, but it's what I use.0 -
I figured those were the answers I'd get. Thanks, though. Looks like I'm going to have to get used to baking things. I like baked foods, but some things don't come with baking instructions.0

Olive oil cooking spray if you want to minimize the additional cals. Otherwise, use a high quality oil for pan frying, and enjoy the healthy unsaturated fats, so long as it fits your macros.0

what about mineral oil?
It has minerals.0 -
This morning I had 1 fried egg, but I fired it in Olive Oil. Because of Lent, I am not having anything with sugar in it, so there goes Cereal until Easter. And I need to head to the store and get me some Fruit and Veggies for Breakfast. Yes, i do believe it adds calories.0

Does getting herpes limit your dating circle?
Nope0 -
Do yourself a favor, either bake it or don't eat it at all. Processed foods like the one you just mentioned - NO GOOD. It's time to start eating whole foods, not convenience ones. Frying shouldn't even be an option...0

Olive oil is good for you; don't be afraid to use it. I browned some ground buffalo in olive oil for lunch and added the 1 tablespoon to my lunch count.0

Only on Wednesdays.0

Yes, it will add calories. The 140 Calories is as the food stands right now. Untouched, however you prep the food, changes the calories(Unless you are just boiling it, or baking it plain, etc)0
-
If you are frying it in a pan with with oil, oil has calories. Why don't you bake it in the oven then you don't have to add calories?0
-
Yes...while certain oils like olive oil are very nutritionally good for you, they are also calorie dense. A mere Tbsp of olive oil has about 120 calories.0
-
Only on Wednesdays.
This.
And frying food on a night with a full moon actually deducts calories.0 -
