Good morning! I'm doing great on my running for exercise, but I'm not doing much on strength training or watching what I eat or drinking my water like I should. I guess my body can only handle fixing one thing at a time. Or maybe that's an excuse because I don't have (or won't let myself have) the willpower to actually tackle all of it at once. I think it's the latter.

On the positive side, yesterday I ran about 6 feet further than I did Monday. Still just under 0.2 of a mile though, but baby steps! I'll probably actually consider myself a runner once I'm able to run from my front door to the kids' school without stopping. The way I'm going, that's going to be a while. But I'm keeping positive! Progress is progress even if it's slow!

    Mmmmmmmm! Chocolate fountain!!!!!!!

katie--if you have p90x give it a go! my biggest rec is to NOT start with core synergistics. he's super dorky in it and if you can't do it you'll feel very discouraged. also, keep in mind the yoga is 90 minutes. (i've never done it cuz i don't care for yoga)

you will gain strength and stamina. as tony says--just keep pressing play. and take breaks or modify as needed. i never progressed to real amounts of standard form pushups, and i just don't care. still gained muscle.

    anyway, it's definitely worth doing!!

Just thought I'd pass along some water intake info I learned over the weekend.

We took the kids to a science museum near us on Saturday. In the section on the human body, it had a scale and a calculator at one exhibit to help you determine how much water you should drink a day. They said to divide your weight (in lbs) by 16 to see how many 8 oz cups of water your body needs a day. I think that is probably pretty accurate because it said I need to drink about 80 oz a day, and I was feeling good drinking that much at one point a few months back. Of course, just like everything else, everyone's body chemistry is different, so some people may need more than their calculated amount, and some may need less. But it gives me a good water goal to shoot for.

Stacey~Thanks for the ideas. My one concern on it is I don't want to "bulk" up. I want to have lean muscles. I don't want to be looking like a woman body builder. Is that what the lean schedule is for? Or is is where all of them you "bulk" up?

Amy~ Here are some hydration calculators that the hubby found. Each one asks different questions so that you get a more accurate idea. One of them even asked if you where pregnant or nursing. They were all very close to each other except the one that asked if I was nursing (yes I am) that one was a little more than the others.

hey ladies how u all doin? I keep stayin away from this place but today I was thinking that I need to get on here n keep better track of what I'm doin and eating.I've decided that I want to lose about 50-60lbs over the summer I hope I can do that, I know I have to work my butt off but I will do what I can.I want to be off the diabetic meds even though I'm not diabetic yet.I take them to prevent becoming one.I have been doing better with my water intake. Now I just have to watch the foods I eat and excerise more.My goal starting Monday is to get up at about 7am n take the 2 dogs for a mile walk then come back n do some workouts with my workout pad,

Katie, it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to "bulk up" on a caloric deficit.

katie m--women don't bulk up. we don't have the testosterone for it. unless of course you choose to use steroids. j/k
seriously, think about ballet dancers who are incredibly strong but long/lean muscles.

the lean has more cardo workouts than the classic. not a big difference.
    as i mentioned, i did/do a hybrid
--walking, biking at the gym, walk/run, p90x videos with my own scheduling of the routines, but i don't do the yoga dvd or plyometrics. i sometimes do his stretch and sometimes my own.

Completely off topic but wanted to share! I've been fat most of my life and my (.)(.) have always been a B cup. (Not sure what sizes you use in US but can't be that different?) So at 18 I was wearing a bra in a size 38B which is big round the ribs, but small (.)(.). After having the girls I went up a cup size to C but stayed pretty much the same band size. Well I went to get measured last year after I lost some weight and they told me I was 32E which means I am getting smaller, but the (.)(.) are getting bigger. And yesterday I realised I hadn't been measured for a year so thought I should go back and they measured me at 30F!!!! ( . )( . )!!! Don't worry, I'm not kidding myself. I know they are not actually growing, but it is lovely thinking that I am actually finding them under all the flab! WooHoo!

Oh AND!!!! I bought a dress in size 10 (UK)!!!!!! I can't remember what that is in US sizes. Anyone know? I think it might be a US size 8. Just found a conversion website and I would hate to move to Australia cos there it would be a 12 according to the website! Still it equals thinner!!!! YAY!!!!!

Going on one of those long bike rides today with the trailer attached. Hope you all have a lovely day!

Princess, just say it... BOOBIES! Yabbos, tatas, bodacious babes, girls, boobs, breasts. It's okay, we're all girls here ;)
    LOL

I will be getting some new bras before my trip. I'm so happy. I've been wearing a C cup since I was a teen, cuz that's what my mom insisted I was, and we couldn't find anything smaller in a B cup that fit right. The Playtex site has a measurement guide & said I am a 40B. YAHOO! They actually make a size that will fit me. It will be nice to have some support when I run, all of my current bras are WAY too big, even with the straps as tight as they can go.

Sarah & Stacey~Thank you for the info.

Stacey~So that is how those women look that way is by steroids? I always wondered. I guess I live a sheltered life. lol

Princess~haha it took me a minute to figure out what you where using the (.) for! Great job on the dress size! Also the bike ride.

Trish~You crack me up! It's sad I was as big as my mom in 10th grade!!! Now I am so much bigger than that due to all the babies. I am a 38D, in 10th grade I was a 36C and at one point I was a DD!! Let's just say there is WAY to much there! lol I wish that I had that problem of my bras being way to big haha.

Last night I went on a 12 mile bike ride (tons of hills) and really didn't have to stop to rest! On the way back home there where several hills that I had it on the second highest tension the whole way up and one hill that I had it on the hardest tension all the way up and was going pretty fast up them too. When I found out how far that I had gone I was excited. I did it in 1 hour and 10 min.

I told my mom the other day that my goal was to be able to ride to her house one day (about 25 miles one way). She laughed and said you won't be able to make it back home on your bike. I am going to take that as a challenge. I want to show her that I can get strong enough to do it!

steroids give them the thick necks, acne, sometimes facial hair....
i'm sure there are some legit ones out there, but generally speaking for a woman to BULK she needs drugs.

yeah, you'll notice on the p90x videos that the women who are crazy strong have very little body fat and hardly any boobs (need body fat to make enuf estrogen etc). in fact, this one german girl is petite and she CRANKS (chest and back dvd??). and there's another woman--dreya-- who is an aerialist--AMAZING abs! and on the abripperx (16min of torture--but it's just 16 minutes so you CAN do it!--seriously modified if needed) there is a super strong woman on it who even has a little celllulite that shakes towards the end of one of the exercises. meaning--she is not skin and bones but real woman.
and an older (50?) woman on one with strong arms.
these are real people not droid heads.
i know too much about these dvds.....definitely looking forward to getting back to them (this summer? or else this fall)

trish--have you gone up to the bali outlet in park city (kimball jxn)? they have a huge variety. they will fit you. good prices. AND best of all--if your size changes, you can bring back your bras and get the same ones for free in the correct size. this is for bras that you have worn!!

i did this last summer and traded in many--same style, smaller size. great b/c it didn't cost me $

biker girls--AWESOME! and katiem you can SO meet the challenge!

alright----i'm signing off for the week. tomorrow is moving day.
they packed us up--and having a hard time keeping boy off the towers of boxes. hehe

and i don't know when i'll be back online. dh has to go to san diego (last minute) cuz his dad is having QUINTUPLE bypass tomorrow. they went it to check out things planning on putting in one stent, and saw so much blockage decided on a more extensive procedure. -
so it will be me, the kids, the sitter(s) and the movers. thank goodness i can get such good sitters--so then on sat and sun i can work on unpacking and she can entertain them and bathe them etc). i am blessed.
and of course, i will be praying for a safe surgery and smooth recovery for my fil. he is the kids' only papa

KatieM7 - way to go on motivating your hubby back into action! :P

Amy - It takes actually about 60 days to create a habit...so I always try to focus on one or two things at a time. If I get it for 3 months then I move on to something new. So take heart, it takes a bit to get comfortable with a new habit, you just have to be patient! :) And very cool info about the water!

Stacey - I do not envy you! I absolutely hate packing! The only good thing about it is that it usually helps motivate us to debulk. :P

Princess - I happened to like your little boobie drawings :P They made me giggle. And congrats and the bigger cup smaller band size! :)

Stacey - I'll be praying for your in-law! And good luck unpacking and managing the kiddos with out DH around!

DD2's health keeps fluctuating. Yesterday slept all day and ran fevers around 102. Today she woke up around 99 and was chipper, but then got another fever of 102. Then she puked and the fever went down. I mean projectile stuff. My poor baby! :( But the fever went down so I'm feeding her liquids in small amounts and hoping she starts to get better! So yesterday and today was spent mainly nursing a sick baby. That and dealing with a 2yo who is getting quite jealous of all the attention her little sister is getting. I didn't get a workout in yesterday but I did get one in today. Slowly but surely! I hope you all have a great day tonight!

    Hey SAHMs!

First, I am still loving my 6 weeks child free! Week 2 is almost over and it is flying! Unfortunately, I have spent about 1/2 of my after work hours working extra (free  ) hours since I usually used my son as the excuse to actually leave work close to on time! (I work full time from home.)

But, it's also been nice to have time to focus on my current project - winning myself free LASIK! I am blatantly recruiting people to vote daily (every 24 hours) until the contest ends on Tuesday. I am in the lead, but just barely! Please vote for me and encourage others to (I know I'm a stranger but if you know anyone with stranger compassion!)! See my signature or my profile for more info.

Stacey - Good luck on the move! I'll be praying for your FIL too!

Valerie - I hope your little one feels better soon!

Whoo hoo!!! I actually ran 0.2 of a mile this evening!! I felt like I could have run a little further, but I decided not to since it was a significant distance more than I ran Tuesday. And I'd like to be able to run even further tomorrow when I go to pick up the kids from school. It will be much hotter then, and I've noticed (for obvious reasons) that I don't feel I can run quite as far when it's hotter. I also made my water goal of 80 oz!!!

It's after midnight here, so I'm heading to bed. "See" you in the morning!

Hi, all! I'm loving reading your introductions. I'm pretty new here so here's mine again too! I have a 4 year old little boy who I have been able to stay at home with for about 2 years now... a job loss two years ago was a blessing in disguise, though it has been a tough transition as well. I do work very, very part time doing assessments for and then facilitating a support group. Very part time = 2 hours a week when the group is going and maybe 12-15 hours a week while I am doing assessments for a week or two. This coming week is that week so I'll be figuring out how to fit everything in! (I *so* don't miss working 40+ hours a week.... although I do miss getting paid more than childcare costs!)

I am still hanging in there doing the MFP plan... haven't weighed and am trying to just focus on making healthier decisions. It is amazing how fast your tastes change! I picked up some chocolate soy milk at the store Tuesday... Tuesday it tasted a little weird (not *bad* weird, soy is just different than cow's milk weird)... and by today I think it is amazing and so rich. I was thinking the same thing about peanut butter earlier this week when I grabbed a TBSP to get some calories in. I've been trying to be more consistent with exercising and have been using the Wii a lot this week. I wish I had Wii Fit! I am massively proud of myself for exercising twice while I was out of town over Memorial Day weekend... Saturday my little boy and I walked to my old elementary school playground for him to play (about 1.5 miles round trip (or at least as round trip as we got... my mom picked us up on the way back because I had an exhausted little boy I couldn't carry and walk too! I didn't realize it was that far and was very proud of him for sticking with it as long as he did!). The other day I just did an exercise workout on her cable on demand.

I guess my current challenge is to figure out how to blend this new lifestyle into everything else in life. I already feel like a failure at keeping up with housework and at the moment that is even further behind. It is so much more fun to spend my time planning menus and cooking and playing Wii tennis! :) Maybe I'll take a day and time doing housework to see how many hours I can get in. I also do some direct sales work from home... which I've been massively slacking on even before joining MFP... so I need to get going on that again as well!

Since we all seem to be discussing bras today :) ... I'm thinking of starting to run a little and definitely need a heavy duty sports bra. I tried to do some jumping jacks as part of a Wii workout the other day... OUCH! Eons ago, I was a B cup but with weight gain I am a DDD now (or maybe DD, I can't remember because I avoid buying bras!). I really need some new regular bras too but they are SO expensive when you can't just run to Target or Walmart. Any advice? I hope they decide to shrink as I lose weight!

Melodyg - Its really important to have a good fitting sports bra if you are going to run. If you don't get one then the ligaments will stretch and it will be painful to run, not to mention the sagginess that results. I skimp on clothes and other stuff, but the right bra under your clothes will make all the difference!

Valerie - hope your little one gets better soon

MIne are running around the house screaming so I had better go take them to to zoo as promised.

LOL Princess! I wish I had that problem, mine have gone down since I quit breastfeeding and started losing weight, almost 3 cup sizes! I definitely need a lift, or something LOL

Trish ~ My favorite sports bras are the ones at Target, they really hold the girls in!

Stacey ~ Sorry to hear about your FIL, I pray everything goes well

Off to vote for you Melissa! I would love Lasik! Wait, I can't find the vote button??

Melody ~ Yeah, I don't skimp on bras either, not only does a good one and proper fit make you look skinnier, it's better for them! Like I said above, my fav sports bras are at target, and even my well endowed friends like them (one of them really wants and needs a reduction, but insurance won't pay for it because of the weight she's lost)

The boys and I and some friends are headed over to the 'big' city of Lawton to go to a splash park today! Woke up early and got a run in 3 miles in 29minutes, I love doing intervals! My 5k race is in 2 weeks, and I think I will make my goal of getting it under 30 minutes! Well, I better go get the house picked up. I will say it's easier to keep house when A) it's on the market and B) you don't let things pile up! Speaking of house sales, hoping we get an offer today! Someone who looked at our house on Tuesday, came back Thursday morning, and wanted to see it again after that in the afternoon! Hoping that they are the ones and they choose our house!

Thanks Stacey for the info. Hope your FIL gets better soon will pray for him.

Amy~It is harder to workout when it is so hot outside. I am not a runner (though I have thought about taking it up). I like the bike better it's my exercise of choice and I know I have a hard time riding if it is too hot out. Good luck with the running.

Melody~ I completely agree no skimping on the bras especially the sports bra. For me I don't want my "girls" bouncing around like to bunnies under a blanket. I got mine from Costco 2 of them for like $20 its the same brand as they have at Target.

Katie~ Way to go on the running and good luck on the up coming 5K and also the house selling.

Melissa~ Just went and voted for you under my FB and the DH! Hope that you win it. What place are you in now?

Today I am going to be finishing planting the garden. Can't wait to be able to have stuff out of it. mmmm home grown veggies are the best.

Also watched a little bit of the P90X yoga video while the DH was doing it. ROFL....he kept getting upset at the guy/me when he thought he couldn't do the position the way it needed to be done. He is a lot more calm though then he usually is lol. I had told him at one point that he needed to try to straighten his leg more. He said to me "WOMAN I can't get it that way are you trying to kill me?!" LOL It was the greatest to see him doing that stuff because he used to make fun of me when I did pilates. Can I just say LOVED IT!!!

Hope you all have a great weekend and a good Friday!!!

Hi girls! I would LOVE love love to join your group :) I am the type who needs regular check ins and accountability among friends :). And I would love to have some "goal buddies."

I'm a mom to 5 kids. 3 are my biological children, 2 are my step children through marriage. Hubby had two, I had two from a previous marriage, and now we have a 5th together. My boys are both 11 (and hormonal....somebody....SAVE ME!!) and my girls are 9, 8, and 9 months old. I'm now a SAHM (once again) after my job was relocated at the time of me returning to work after maternity leave. LOL, talk about a HUGE FAVOR!! But my wonderful hubby knows being home with the kids is important to me, so supports my decision.

I've been on this new path since January 2nd of this year. I was at my all time high weight of 225 during my pregnancy this go round, but my SW in January was 211. Right now I am 156 (up 2.2 pounds as of weigh in today-GRRRR). My goal is 140, though I have been lower than that previously. I may adjust it when I hit 140 and decide if I am satisfied. I'm a P90x grad- I completed the lean version on 4/29. I had surgery on 4/30 and was just cleared last week to return to exercise- but not fully. Still no ab work or major lifting for a few weeks yet. I was really in a great place with exercise prior to surgery, but am finding myself having trouble getting back into it. I really could use some motivational friends.

I did read everybody else's posts on these pages, and am pleased to meet you all. I have an awful memory, so it will take me a bit to remember what went with who! LOL

    Hello all!

Nicole I have been lurking too. I try to post more often if you do!!! :)

Welcome to all the newbies. As an intro--I have 4 kids(5 if you count hubby). My oldest just graduated & is headed to college in August. 2 DD--14 &11 & 1 DS who is 8. We live in Missouri & I stay home & home school my kiddos. Right now I am battling some pain in my hip. I was diagnosed w/ arthritus but we've decided that the options my dr. gave us aren't going to work. Considering chiro/acupunture & other stuff. Prayers for wisdome please?

I haven't been able to exercise much because of the pain but I have to say stick with MFP even when you don't exercise. It works!!!!!! I had gained about 4 lbs because of not walking/running & eating in "poor me" mode. I decided about 2 weeks ago to stop that when a friend challenged me to give up soda. I have needed to do that for a while & I haven't had a soda for 12 days. I didn't drink a lot but I can tell a difference in how I feel. Means that I have more calories available for healthy food instead of junk too. I was extremely happy to weigh in this morning & find 2 lbs gone. :drinker:

I really like to walk--it is a stress reliever for me so I had to get over the fact that I can't do that. We've been riding bikes as a family which is a lot of fun and good for them too. And I have done pilates some--not enough though. So set your goals and then find ways to change your lifestyle one little thing at a time and you will get there!!!!

Melody - I totally know what you mean about tastes changing! I was actually glad to have a reason to bail on going out for pizza today. I had already gone out once this week and the idea of all that grease did not appeal to me. Yay for us! Also, you can add housework and gardening (ie yard work) to your exercise tracker! I have found that really helps motivate me to get that housework and yardwork done!

Jessica - Welcome to the group!

Nicole - I hope you feel better soon!

So as I had mentioned....DD2 has been having some health issues. Mainly she kept getting high fevers and then they would go away. No other symptoms except sleeping a lot. Yesterday she vomitted, and then today she started panting and acting like she was going to puke again. I took her temp and it was back up to 102 so I took her into the ER because this has been going on for 4 days now. When I got there and they took her temp it was up to 105! My poor little baby! So I got to spend about 5 hours in the ER while they ran tests on her, gave her medicine and an IV to get her temp down. She felt a lot cooler to the touch when she hit 103 so she was really up there! Ultimately they discovered she had a UTI and gave her some antibiotics by IV and then a script for oral antibiotics. So in a few days she should be feeling much better. I need to do a follow up with her doc to do some tests on her kidneys to make sure they weren't affected but she should be just fine. All in all it was a scary and tiring day!

Needless to say I didn't get my workout in, but still managed to stay under my calorie limit! (I had splurged at lunch not knowing that instead of running on my elliptical I would be going to the ER) But when I weighed myself this morning I was down another pound so that is 2 in the past week and a half! All this combined with my daughter finally being on the mend makes me tired but very relieved! I hope you all have a great weekend! I'm off to bed!

Valerie - Glad your little one is getting better. I sometimes eat too much and then realise I can't fit the exercise in too!

    Hello all the new ladies!

I love reading about your lives day to day! I lived in Maryland about 8 or 9 years ago for a year as an au pair. I was looking after some lovely children and the best part about the days there was that they were really bright and sunny! I just remember it being really lovely when the kids got back from school and we could still play outside for hours, even in the winter! I do love being in England, but the days seem so much shorter than they were over there. Maybe its just the perspective. It was also soooo much warmer in the evenings there too!

ANyway, I'm trying to summon up the motivation to go on a bike ride. Its saturday, but DH had some errands to run so I am on my own with the kids AGAIN! Sometimes it would be nice to have time without them for only an hour or two, or just have everyone together so its not just me doing everything.

Valerie--poor girl & poor momma! Glad you have solved the mystery sickness. That is the worst--knowing something is wrong but not being able to figure it out.

Princess--It is tough when hubby is gone and you have to do everything. I did that for 4 years while my hubby was in school. I finally got to a point where I said "my attitude about this is ruining my time with my kids." I found ways to get a couple of hours off every once in a while and then just chose to enjoy the time with my little guy(only had one then). I hope you can find a way to do that too. I will change so much for you.

Well hubby & I had a date last night. I did pretty good on eating--went to Red Lobster so it was challenging as there are MANY temptations there. :) Then we walked(slowly--hahaha) for a while so that helped. Today is housework day & then a graduation party this afternoon. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Hi Everyone!

For all the newbies that I haven't introduced myself to, I am Melissa, a homeschooling SAHM of 3 (but I homeschool 2 extras). Mine daughter is almost 9 and my sons are 6 and 5. My extras are 8 and 10 yo girls and I have another extra 6 yo boy coming in the fall! I am so glad we are almost done w/ school for the year!! This Thursday is our last day but it's going to be awfully hectic around here before we get there...so much to do.

Bra talk- mine have shrunk considerably w/ the weightloss. I have lost the most inches there :grumble: I am in desparate need of new bras b/c I simply don't fill the old ones anymore. I have to double up on my sports bras for a run b/c they are too big. Maybe one of these days I'll got get some new ones but I'd much rather spend the money on cute smaller clothes, not a smaller bra!

Val - I hope your daughter is continuing to do better and ptL that they discovered the problem and it was easily fixable w/ antibiotics. Praying the kidneys look good :)

Curlie - Good for you! No soda in 12 days is awesome! I know you'll find your new "niche" in the exercise department and feel great about moving forward. Certainly there is a purpose for this bothersome hip. I hope it ends up being a blessing in disguise in some way for you.

I finally got the nerve up to bring the weights on the Treadmill. It was so tough! I sweat like I have never sweat in my life. I could literally ring my bra out after my workout was done. My shirt was soaked down to my belly button and as gross as it was...I felt awesome. It felt so good to work so hard and accomplish something so tough! 1 hour on the TM at an incline of 8.5, speed of 3.5. I did 7 sets of weight reps while I was walking and each set of reps took 5 minutes! So I lifted weights for 35 minutes and walked for 1 hour but did it at the same time! Talk about multi-tasking efficiency! I hope it provides some good results. 9 lbs to go in 23 days to make my birthday goal!!
