Why don't my abs hurt after crunches?

Ok, maybe this is a dumb question but Google isn't helping. I just did circuit training the other day which included planks and crunches. I haven't worked out for about a month so I had DOMS pretty badly in my arms, legs and butt.

Here's my question: My abs don't hurt at all though. Why don't they hurt? I'm pretty sure I do crunches correctly with my abs doing the work not my neck. My back and my neck are not sore at all either which would tell me I was doing something wrong.

Can anybody help me out here? Thanks! :flowerforyou:

Are you sure you weren't letting your hips do the work either? Make sure you are keeping your eyes to the ceiling and that you're sucking in your belly button, like your pulling it to your spine. Also, to get an extra kick out of it, lift your feet off the floor and just have your heels on the ground.

Also, try combining crunches with reverse crunches!

Crunches are not really that great for core work, and carry with them danger of injuring your back. Go for planks, Stability Ball rollouts, Stability ball jack knifes. They will all work your core well.
