30 Day Shred Calorie Calculation vs HRM

Hello,
Looking for some friendly advice. When I began doing the 30 Day Shred I looked on line and average calorie burn for one session. I found a calculation on line that gave me 211 calories. Today I just wore a HRM for the 1st time during my work out and it gave me 458 calories burned....it seems a little high. So being new to the HRM thing, I am seeking advice....should I input the 458 calories burned or just take an average of the 2?
Thanks

When I first started I didn't have an HRM until a few weeks into it and MFP was giving me 299 calories burned but since I've had my HRM it gives me between 140-155 which seems more realistic to me. Does your HRM have a chest strap?

No it is a Mio watch HRM....I do have a Polar FT4 on order...so I guess I will have to wait to see if it is more accurate...it has a chest strap...thanks for your info!
  • I have had this same issue. My personal trainer suggested averaging the 2 numbers, which i have been doing and seems to work well for me!

When i used to the 30DS My HRM was telling me about 110-120, so i usually run on my treadmill instead, more of a calorie burn in less time to :)

I just started 30DS yesterday and was also wondering how to acurately count how much you've burned... everyone seems to say something drastically different.

I just started 30 DS and my HRM is giving me around 350. It has a chest strap so I always assumed it was pretty accurate?

My HRM and the MFP database for circuit training, general are almost identical for me. With my Polar FT4 (wearing chest strap) i burn around 200-205 calories for Level 1 (all 27 minutes from warm up through cool down). MFP gives me 213 for the same amount of time. But I've heard the MFP database can really overestimate for some exercise and some people too.

I did 30DS tonight and my HRM said 300 which seems right to me. The chest strap makes all the difference.

I have a polar HRM and it usually gives me anywhere from 200 up to 240 depending on how hard I push myself and what size weights I use that day.

I think it really depends on your activity level and weight. My HRM tells me I burn 270-310 depending on my intensity and often I feel like I deserved every single one of those calories and that anything less would be too low. If you're more fit than I am, maybe you'd burn less because it wouldn't be as difficult for you. Your current HRM will be most accurate if you take your HR frequently since you don't have the chest strap. When I used my Sportline watch I tried to take my HR between each exercise, so roughly every 30 seconds or so, a bit longer during the strength portions.
