0 Calories?

I remember when I did weight watchers there were some items that were considered 0 points. I assume you could consider them 0 calories? Does anyone know of any?

    0 points still have calories. Fruits and veggies still have calories and should be counted. Water and 0 calorie sodas are the only 0 point things I can think of at the moment.

    That was the big shocker for me. I ate lots and lots of fruits on Weight Watchers and the first day on MFP I was out of calories by noon. Everything has sugar.

    Absolutely not! Calories and points are not the same thing. The general rule is every point is approximately 50 calories. Something with 0 points CAN have calories in it. Basically the only healthy calorie free thing out there is water.

    This is a complaint I hear so much with the WW program. People don't realize that the calories from fruits and vegetables DO count and can add up pretty quick if you are not careful.

    I am going to have to find something I read so I don't look like an idiot here... but I didn't explain myself well either.

    I've read something negative calorie foods or something when eaten usually raw it takes more calories to eat them/digest or something like that than they are so they are sort of "free" foods (everything in moderation of course) and I seem to remember the list was similar to some I remember being 0 points on Weight Watchers.

    I am just sitting here hungry... I have over 600 calories left for today so I need to eat again but I am wondering what to do when you really really are hungry and have no calories left.

    I feel like Weight Watchers does such a disservice to people by promoting fruits and vegetables as "free." I know there are people who are successful on WW plans, and that's great, but the system of counting imaginary numbers makes very little sense to me.

    Negative calorie foods are total BS. Foods have calories - whether you want to pretend they do or not. When you're really hungry and you have no calories left you either 1) go over or 2) exercise and earn more calories - you don't get to pretend your food magically has no calories. Going over isn't the end of the world and one day over won't do you any damage.

    The only truly negative calorie beverage is ice water, which has no calories but requires the body to expend some energy to raise the liquid to body temperature. True story!

    "Points" is a calculation of calories, fiber, and fat. To be 0 points the fiber content has to a certain % higher than calories and fat -- meaning there are, in fact, calories.

    I quit WW when they moved to PointsPlus because they tried to act like calories from fruit and veggies don't count. Before points plus, the calculation method made MOST veggies 0 points because it was low calorie/fat and high fiber, but fruits were usually 2-4 points because they have more calories (from carbs/sugars). What they found was that people would rather have 2 points snack cake than a 2 point apple. Supposedly it was to help people make "healthier" choices.

    I personally it stalls people's weight loss.

    It's this stuff that makes me really anti-weight watchers. As said above, it's a huge disservice to people who haven't learned much about nutrition to act like fruit and veg are calorie free. It just promotes the wrong attitude toward food in general, not to mention you can still get fat eating fruit and veg if you eat enough of it!

    meh' I did well on Weight Watchers. When I did it it was ages ago so not the new system either. At least 7 or 8 years ago I did it. Lost what I needed to loose and kept it off for a few years. My weight issues now have nothing at all to do with Weight Watchers.

    *shrugs* negative calories make sense to me... nothing says you can eat as much as you want or anything like that or that you don't need to count them... just that they do work. I think the 0 point foods on WW since they are based in part on fiber content was this list (I can't remember its been quite a few years). I have to say counting points was FAR easier than counting calories is for me. Take an apple for example I could say I had an apple in whatever size and find my points. Calories is harder there doesn't seem to be a clear cut answer on how much a medium apple is in calories. Plus what is medium to me might not really be medium it might be small or it might be large to wherever I found the calorie count at online.

    It's best to weigh foods for the reasons you describe. You'll get a much more accurate calorie count than just guessing what size something is.

    Just water and 0 calorie sodas are all I know that are 0 calories. Very close to nothing is cabbage at about 20 calories a cup I think.
