I won a 1-month with a personal trainer and also 3 month gym membership (including a few persona trainer sessions)

2 items at a silent auction- fundraiser for a missions trip to Swaziland to help with clean water- for a friend's daughter. (there were 3 fitness auctions. I bid on 2 hoping to get at least 1. no oe bid on any of them! I got two. and, yes these people are lovely kind friendly good people, but most of them could have seriously used a 3 month gym membership!....I digress)

MY QUESTION:
do I tell them right up front that I will not be getting a full membership as this was something to help a friend get to her missions trip... because I really hate 'sales pitch pressure' and don't want sales pitch pressure to get in the way of my gym experience.

Or do I just quietly 'play along'?

Will they not take me seriously/ not put forth effort to do a good job if they know I won't be signing on? I have never worked out at a gym before. So I am totally clueless how stuff goes.

(Even if I did want to join a gym, my husband works on base and I could go there free and it is 1/4 the drive)

I'd just play along - it is what it is, I always find people go the extra mile for you if they think they are gonna make a sale.

Just go and have fun. If they start a sales pitch then tell them how you feel.

I'd probably tell them I'm on the fence on whether or not I want to join. To me they will work harder if they think they have a potential sale but need to win you over. Yea, you'll have to deal with the sales pitches but make them work for it :-)

it just feels dishonest. though my husband would give the same advice. (He's out of town on business so I don't have to ask him about it...LOL) wouldn't they be more upset if they really thought I was going to sig up and didn't- and never planned on it?
people are so hard to deal with.

    this sounds doable.
I am such an introvert. why didn't I just sign up for the Starbuck/Cupcake gift basket??? now I have to talk to people I don't know.

    Thanks guys.

    thanks.

and I had T-rex arms until just recently. Still can't do chin-ups. that is one of my goals
  • Is there someone else that you know that could use the personal training/gym membership who doesn't have the money for one but would use it?

Tell him/her your goals. Tell them you won this as a prize and are excited to get the month's worth of training and see how far they can push you. You're going to get sales pitches no matter what, unless you're almost rude telling them, "There is no way I'm purchasing more, don't ask". And I think that could lead to a crapy relationship with the PT.
