Help with beginning exercise/fat-burning?

Hi everyone,

Now that I have my eating under control, I really need to amp up the fat burning - which means exercise. I've been pretty sedentary for the past few years and I'm not sure where to start. I currently do exercise ball work/stretching/yoga a few times a week and I walk a lot, but not really to the point where I raise my heart rate. I used to run in high school and college and I'd like to do Couch to 5K - can I start with that or is it better to begin smaller? I also have the DVDs for Hip Hop Abs and 30 Day Shred, but I don't know if I should do those before or along with C25K. Any tips at all?

Thank you!

  • c25k is a beginner program. I think anyone is ok to start that (assuming they do not have an underlying heart condition)

You can always make the program move slower by repeating weeks (The first couple of weeks are really easy)

You should also add in some basic strength training 2-3 days perweek. Simple body weight exercises (squats, lunges, pushups, pullups) will give you a good workout. Start with about 30 minutes of these, and try to work your way up to 60

Start with something you are comfortable with. The real key is to keep increasing intensity, duration, difficulty every week to continue to see progress.

Since you do yoga, you could maybe try pilates? :) It burns more!
