Mud Runs - Are they really worth it?

I am doing the Run for Your Lives Zombie 5k obstacle course. What kind of training do you guys do for them? I am doing C25K right now, but I feel like I'm gonna need some serious strength training.0

im not about to ruin a good pair of running shoes on top of a high admission price so no, not for me.
I purposely saved a pair of worn out shoes to use on my WD.
I actually still wear my shoes I wore for Tough Mudder. Ran them through the wash and they are good to go.
Me too. I'm actually running in them this year again!0 -
I haven't seen the appeal in them that many people seem to have.0

Im doing my first one on June 1st, a Spartan.
Im terrified, but it's so vitally important for me to get this done before I can advance to other harder things I need to conquer as well. But I am holding back from attacking the larger adventures i want because my body has been beaten, broken, crushed, abused, misused, neglected, rebroken, rebroken, torn, stretched, bent wrong, jammed and twisted badly more times and harder than I can say.
Going into this, Im putting a lot of pressure on myself. I have a lot to prove here.
I want to prove to myself that I can do something like this without breaking my body to pieces again.
I want to prove that not only can I start and finish one, but I can be good at it.
I want to prove to my 21 year old self that I did not let her waste away in misery and weak fragility and self hate.
I want to prove to her that I fixed her body for her.
I want to prove that I can train consistently for something and scream victorious.
I want to prove that no matter what horrible things have happened to me, what losses Ive endured, what pain and physical therapy and emotional tragedy and losing my family all tried to sink me forever, that Im not anywhere near being lost.
I want to prove that Im not just surviving but thriving.
I want to prove to myself that I am ready for the bigger adventures.
I want to prove to myself that maybe I wont even be good at it, maybe I'll be phenomenally GREAT at it!

I want to prove to my training partner that I can take serious challenges seriously, but not so much that I forget to play and enjoy myself, and I want to show them that I paid attention, soaked up everything like a sponge and am going to make them proud.
i want to prove that, just because something is impossible, doesnt mean that it always will be. We know that we just have to get stronger and more things open up to us.
That is what this is.
This is the other side of the combination of all the physical turmoil Ive survived, this is my physical victory and I know Im going to cry in happiness when it is over and I make it to the bathroom and no one can see or hear me.0 -

SO much fun. The feeling when I finished my first 8k one last year was a crazy high, I immediately set the goal to finish a full Tough Mudder this year. Just save some shoes and count those suckers as gone. Totally worth it.0

Mud Runs are AWESOME! I wait for them to come up on groupon, livingsocial, or zozi so I save at least gas/parking money.0

Yes! I've done about 30 of them, various companies. They fun and a great way to get a workout in Highly recommend trying it out!0

It's like any other race I'd imagine. Largely for your own personal amusement/enrichment (unless you're in legitimate shape to stand a chance of placing for some prize).0

They are great. As many have said, i am not a fan of running, but mudruns are fun. I did a spartan race. It was alot fo fun. Wish i had more people doing it with me though.0

Totally worth it! I would do one if I didn't have to be electrocuted. That freaks me out. But the mud, and ice and fire would be awesome!0

I did the Warrior Dash and had a blast. No electrocution required. :noway:
I wore old shoes and donated them at the end. They had mountains of shoes that were going to be washed & donated to charity so they don't actually get ruined. Power wash them at the car wash and the'll be good. Bring bags for your dirty clothes & shoes.0 -

Looks like fun and I registered for the Dirty Girl mud run in August. Sadly, none of my friends are interested so I'm hitting it solo but I'm still excited about it!

I've done the Warrior Dash, and I'm doing the Spartan Race this June (or at least that's my plan)...I wanted to do Tough Mudder, but it's too far away. I'm also signed up for some Mud Run in May at a ski resort. They are so much freaking fun! Go with a group!0

I've done four Warrior Dashes and a half dozen other smaller local mud runs. They are an absolute blast. We have a group of about 20 of us that caravan down to Oregon every summer for a Warrior Dash. We take over a local hotel, make a whole weekend of it. I highly recommend it. Beer and mud - how can you go wrong?
I wear an old pair of running shoes but I've never had a problem getting them clean again.0 -

I hope they're worth it, I'm going to try the Camp Pendelton Mud Run in June. My friend talked me into it, she told me it's a lot of fun.0

Absolutely. I hate running, but I had so much fun running Tough Mudder. I highly recommend them. Something about running in mud, swimming through ice and being electrocuted appeals to me much more than a half or full marathon.0

I did one last year and it was so much fun. I'm looking to do another but they are getting expensive so I'm keeping an eye on sites like Living Social or Zozi for deals.
Also, you don't really ruin your clothes. I think I washed mine maybe three times after the run, and they are fine now. Just don't wear white.0
