Needing 'cliff notes' for "Marley and Me" book

This is an odd request but the person I am hoping not to offend isn't on these forums and any synopsis search on line wanted money (?). I was loaned the book "Marley and Me" and need to return it, but for the life of me (as much as I like to read) I have no interest in reading it. I just need a few key plot points (mainly the sad ending?) so I can discuss it IF it ever comes up. I've not seen the movie though, is it simliar enough that I can just watch it? I know I'm lame LOL
