Water & peeing - maybe TMI

I have started to drink LOTS of water - not forcing myself, but because my body wants it. I started out trying to get 64oz a day. I have been doing that for about 1 week, but now, I drink close to 96oz (12 - 8oz glasses). The upside is that I don't crave diet Coke anymore (soda free for 5 days). The downside - I have to pee every 45min or so.
Will my body eventually adapt to this increased volume of water and process the water more efficiently i.e. so I don't have to visit the bathroom constantly?

I too am like you - water in not long before i have to go P.... at work I am sure they think I am sloping off for a skive!!!!! NO i really have to P....:drinker: maybe we only have "small bladders"0

bump - because, com' on, there aren't enough bathrooms in the world if all us water drinkers are peeing every 45 minutes.0
-
I don't drink as much water as you, but I did increase my intake when I began my lifestyle changes. After a few days, my body did adjust.0

I'm constantly drinking tea and water, and I've been doing it for a very long time. I still pee just as often... lol, just my personal experience. I hate how often I pee too! haha0

I have the same problem! Always have though. Water just go right through me. I think its just our bodies adjusting and detoxing our body. Seems to help me keep the weight off though and makes me feel a lot less bloated.0

My body has not adjusted to my increased water intake and I had been exclusively drinking water since the first of feb. It runs right through me especially at night. Feels like I'm preggo again (but I know in not ) :-)0
-
Well to date... 8 weeks into this my body has definatley not adjusted. some days it's worse than others. literally somedays it seems 5 minutes after I finish 32 oz i'm in the bathroom - and i do drink it quickly and multiple throughout the day. Seems WAY worse right before my TOM too. Ugh.0
-
well, I'll say it's gotten a little less frequent... but... yeah. It never got much better.0
-
My body has adjusted, but I'm not drinking as much water as you - only 6-8 cups plus a big mug of coffee in the morning. It seemed that my body pretty much held onto the water during the day, but I was up every 1-2 hours to pee at night. That doesn't happen any more; I pee during the day, and I'm up only once or twice at night.0

I drink gobs of water AND have to take a diuretic for blood pressure twice a day. I'm definitely a frequent flier to the ladies' room. Not sure it gets any better. But it gets me some exercise! LOL0

I drink water all day-and have to walk past our receptionist to get to the bathroom...good thing she also drinks water or i would be labeled a "slacker" ha!0

I pee alot, and often. I too think I have a rather small bladder, but most people don't drink water like we do, either.
Really shouldn't matter how often we go, but more importantly the color. You don't want it to be clear (you're drinking too much) and you don't want dark (you're not drinking enough). Lemonade is the right color. If you are peeing clear, back it down a bit.0 -
Mine did.0

Ve been doing this for about a week now -- drinking 10-12 tall glasses of water a day, and peeing every hour or so, sometimes twice an hour!
But question, have any of you noticed any weight loss from drinking more? I've been on a better diet, and working out for the past month.. And added in the hourly glass of water on monday. Just wondering if the water really makes a difference or not.
UGH, weight loss is just so frustrating!
Just wanna snap my fingers and lose 80 lbs.0 -
Although I haven't done a great job of marking it on MFP, I have been drinking close to or more than a gallon of water almost every day for the last two and a half weeks. I have found that drinking cool water vs. cold/ice water makes a huge difference. It also helps if I space it out a bit. Some mornings I will buy a liter of water and drink it over the course of 3-ish hours, then refill and make it last for 3-ish hours, etc.0

No, you are gonna go that much if you drink that much. Taper down a bit, as long as it is clear or like the color of weak lemonade, you're getting enough.0
-
I've always had to pee alot. Now its just worse. Oh well, just more times I have to climb the stairs to the bathroom...so its all good!0
-
I've always had to go frequently but whenever I do start trying to drink more water it's much worse haha Definitely hope it gets better for you!0
-
As a kidney transplant patient, heavy water drinker (80 - 90 oz a day) I can only say one thing, Embrace the pee! It would be MUCH worse if you weren't going!0
-
Ive been drinking lots of water for almost 2 years (no soda in 3 years! whoop!) and my body still hasnt adjusted. i still have to go ever 45 mins. sometimes more often...(and by often i mean when i watch tv, I have to go ever commercial break, sometimes more often.). While it is annoying, It is far better than being dehydrated and it helps flush out the system0

I had the same problem as I used to drink alot (2 - 3 liters a day). I thought I should talk to my gynecologist. She asked me if ' a lot comes out everytime I pee?', I said 'yes'... she asked me 'why I am drinking a lot, do you get thirsty?'... I said, 'not really, because I have too... it is healthy', ... she said, 'perhaps your body doesn't need that much water'. and added that 'the food we are eating has a lot of water as well, like salad, tomotoes, etc..".. since then, I drnk less 5 to 6 glasses a day and it is much better. I might need to drink more in summer, but in winter we do not sweat alot and we won't get dehydrated.0

I try to do the same, and yes I pee what feels like constantly! I am an elementary school teacher, so during the week I do not drink quite as much, as I can't have someone come look in on my class every 10 minutes ;-) As long as you are not *forcing* yourself to drink and can accomodate all the bathroom breaks, have as much as you want!0
-
I stopped drinking diet soda also, great decision! I thought I never could, and you eventually start to appreciate water more than soda, stick with it, it will happen.
I now love drinking water, but for some reason I have to drink it from a bottle, I hate it in a glass. It must be the smell.
Your body will adjust, however if you are losing weight you will pee more than if you were just to maintain that weight. I just think of all the bad things your body is eliminating and embrace it -lol.
Good luck!0 -
What does your sodium and potassium intake look like? If you were on a heavy diet of artificial sweeteners (and other high-sodium items) for a long time then your body probably has a lot of residual fluid this is just now getting released. Your body probably isn't used to getting all the water it needed so it is suddenly craving it. If you are not experiencing any other symptoms then I wouldn't worry about it and keep drinking as much as you crave.0
-
It should. YOu have to remember your body will be trying to flush unwanted toxins in your body out0
-
Your body does adjust. I have been drinking at least a gallon of water a day for years and I'm not running to the bathroom that often, in fact with my job sometimes I'm lucky if I can get to the bathroom once or twice a day. Not a good thing but I make do.0

I found this article. This is merely a guideline of information. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor. What I have found is that I too am peeing more frequently throughout the day. I believe this is my body expelling the toxins from years of abuse within my body. I have taken a more natural foods approach to my diet. I try to avoid diuretic foods throughout the day. I still drink coffee in the morning but eventually will be eliminating this as well. Plus...you really need to read label. I have learned that if I can't pronounce it fluently, my body doesn't need it or should have it. I also avoid food that are "fortified" due to the manufacturing process, but that's just me. I'm still learning and I'm still a novice at this, but I hve a great support system and knowledgeable friends who do this professionally.

You can make it 45 minutes? Lucky.
But you're probably flushing too much potassium and sodium out of your body. Potassium and sodium help hold fluids in. But if ou flush them all out, then the next fluids you put in will have nothing to hold them, and that will flush right out too. Obviously, we don't want to over-do the sodium. But look at potassium. Try alternating your water with orange juice. Or eat other things that are high in potassium (oranges, bananas, peaches, etc.). It makes a huge difference (for me, anyway).0 -
I average 12 to 14 glasses a day and only pee every other hour or so. At first I could darn near drink in the bathroom but my body adapted. Good luck...0

It has to go somewhere, right?
Train yourself to go less if you can.0
