Need stretches/exercises for inner knee pain

I have had minor pain in the MCL region of my left knee for some time. It started in November after an ill-conceived long walk that included some major hills. The doctor suggested rest, ice, and Tylenol. It's not sore during or after my run/walk, but it does twinge when I shift into certain positions, such as when sitting with my foot under me (bad habit from childhood - I'm kinda short).

Are there any stretches or exercises that will alleviate this pain?

You can't really stretch your knee, but you can strengthen the muscles around the ligaments to help support it. Foam rollers can sometimes help with IT band pain so you could try that out. Otherwise, strengthen and stretch your quads and hammies (sloooowly), and possibly take a look into getting fitted for orthotics. If you're overpronating, you could be aggravating the injury. Also, stop sitting on your foot if it makes your knee hurt, sillypants
