If you think, "I would eat healthier... if only it was more affordable..." CHANGE YOUR DANG MIND.
I this grocery store. Hopefully all cities have a few absurdly cheap groceries scattered around!

Stanley's for the WIN!!0

Why does the pic show six containers of strawberries but the receipt only shows one rung up?0
-
Because it was 50 cents for a "box" of strawberries. Ie, a cardboard box filled with 8 boxes of strawberries :O
I froze most of them, haha.0 -
are there stanley's in SoCal?0

wow! I gotta find one of those near my house! That's fantastic0
-
Wow that is cheap. I am so jealous, 1 punnet of strawberries is $5 in Australia.
So 8 of them would be $40 alone0 -
Here are three reasons.0 -
Damn I need one of those in the Bay Area...0

Stanley's can be great. But better eat their produce FAST or risk throwing a big bag of slime away. Our friends brought us over one of the flats of strawberries yesterday too. Sliced and in the freezer now!0

Probably not but there's Henry's Farmer's Market, Sprouts Natural Market (actually Henry's and Sprouts recently merged but at least in my area did not close any locations); there's Barron's, and local fruit/veggie stand GALORE (we have Plowboy's where I live but it's a mom-and-pop place not a chain)0 -
That's insanely cheap. That would easily cost $40 in MA0

That's pretty dang cheap. I wish I lived closer to the city, because driving 1.5 hours to save a few bucks on fruit doesn't really work out for me. However, Aldi rarely lets me down.0

No Stanley's in my area!!0

I dont know about you, but i live in Chicago and still drop a ton on my groceries. Meat is the reason for my high grocery bills... fruit and veggies are usually cheap anyway.0

I don't eat much meat (partially because it is expensive, partially because I'm too lazy to cook it), so that's not a huge hassle for me. Just picked up some frozen salmon at the Mariano's on Halsted; on sale for $7 for two pounds. Wooo0 -

Not a fan of deep dish pizza but that chicago hot dog looks AMAZING0

Isn't it nice to live where the food grows?
Mail me some of that pizza. :drinker:0 -
Thank you for this post. It really rubs me the wrong way when people say eating healthy is more expensive than eating crap. Places like this aren't too common but it does go to show that if you look hard and are willing to branch out and do a little work/research, you can find great deals. Enjoy all your goodies!0

There are actually a bunch of good fruit markets in Chicago. Back when I lived there, I frequented Harvestime (on Lawrence Avenue). They have good prices on produce and frequent sales on random grocery items (things like giant cans of chickpeas, olive oil etc.) Worth checking out if you live in the area.0

last time i was in chicago i didnt do as well....0 -

Pizza and hot dogs in LA suck. Pink's, whatevs0 -
Farmers market. Two weeks worth of veggies for a 228lb man. $20 tops. Just saying. You're right. Eating healthy is actually cheaper.0

the tax alone in RI is closer to 10%0 -

agreed. I've been working out the numbers for some time now. even in very expensive new england, a persistent person can find ways to feed his family for pennies on the dollar.0 -
I am 2 miles from the Chicago City limits and it would still take me forever to get to this market. With work, commute, kids and extracurriculars and such it isn't worth the trip and I would be happy to pay a bit more out in the burbs at their fruit markets. Clearly produce at amazing prices but doesn't apply to all of us in Chicago.0

If I posted a photo of my grocery receipt you guys might cry lol....0
