Looking for tattoo ideas for a half sleeve using these two Bible verses....John 15:5 - "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." And Luke 9:23 - “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."
Hit me ideas. These are 2 of my favorite verses!

A man sitting on the ground with a cross resting on an angle across his body, he is leaning against a tree with a vine wrapped around it, the man and his cross are incorporated into the vine and leaves somehow...a nice antique brown no colour, one knee up and his arm resting on his knee....sort of looks like the man is resting in God's loving arms....I ramble

Best advice I can give, is don't ask people for ideas. Think on it yourself, take as long as it needs. Some of my ink took over 4 years before I was completely set on what I got. It's going to be on your body for life, the only ideas worth putting on your body for life are your own.

Other than the verses that you like, are there any other thoughts about what you want?? Color, B&W, Antique, etc??

Simple, complicated??? So many different ways that this can be done....

Not enough. Half Obama, Half GWB, with a Nazi symbol in the background, to get full effect.

Putting something on your body that is considered a sin to show your devotion makes no sense to me...

If you take the bible literally, you can't even wear most clothes that you wear, so tattoos aren't really that bad. Unless you hate gay people, and cite the same book that bans tattoos, and have a tattoo. Then yea, you're dumb.

    Otherwise, it's pretty open ended.

Take them to an artist, tell them you want to work with them to come up with something that includes the ideas of that bible verses and they will work with you to get the piece you really want.

Seriously that is why they are there. Do your homework, find an artist you like, that is willing to work with you, look at portfolios, meet with them, talk to them its really a pretty simple thing and do not EVER let the price scare you.

Are you going to tattoo them in a "Tim Tebow" fashion? If so, pics or it didn't happen.

I love the idea. Here is my bible quote I want to do....

Book of Armaments, chapter two, verses nine through twenty-one -
"And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths, and carp and anchovies, and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit-bats and large chu... "

Technically, that verse is in the old testement, which most don't go by. It's all about the new. That's why I said it's not a big deal, unless they start quoting that same book when bashing gay people and things of that nature, since they're all from the old test.

I'm not religious at all, I just spent a lot of my youth studying religious history, so I remember random things.

Ok, so this just came across my little brain... simple, yet elegant and I feel fits both verses :)

A well defined wooden cross with 2 scrolls towards the bottom, one for each of the verses.
Around the top of the cross is the crown of thorns, and completely surrounding all are vines.

Sepia & shades of black/grey for the cross, the scrolls in a parchment, the vines a dark green almost black with lots of shading, and the crown of thorns.... hmmmm maybe a dark sepia or even a beautiful bronze/brown with yellow highlights.

Not sure I described it as nice as it looks in my head though.

Kind of what I had in my head too! Still a work in progress!

Okay, before you kiddwinks start bickering and debating Jewish laws, be mindful that the people who worshipped Bal tattooed themselves. The laws in Leviticus were so given as God's chosen people were to remain distinct and not involve themselves with the pagans' affairs.

Let yours be a reflection of you.

    seems a little egotistical...

did you get a tattoo of your reflection so when you look in the mirror you can see what you actually look like?

Debates over the subject matter aside, this is my suggestion: take the verses to a good artist whose style you admire, sit down and have a chat about what they mean to you and what kind of visual elements you like, and ask them to design something that captures the intent/spirit of the verses. Personally, I dislike actual text in most tattoos (there are some excellent, well-done exceptions of course) and lately text tattoos are wildly over-popular/trendy. I think it would have greater impact and be more unique if you had an image that captures the meaning instead. Spend your time researching artists - find the right person to do the job and you'll be happy with the result.

Why don't you get something good and christian like god telling a guy to murder his son, or god getting annoyed and drowning(murdering) every person on earth sans one family, or god burning someone eternally in fire for using the free will he gave them himself to choose not to worship him.

    Yay bible stories!

    NO.

Don't copy what others have already done. Super-lame and insulting to the artist who designed the original piece.

    Skip a bit, brother.

Personally, I like this bible verse; Animals 4:3

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives he releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo, he hath great power and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection and great dedication
    Master the art of karate
    Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.
