Good morning! Had a good weekend - kickboxing Saturday morning followed by the MDA Muscle Walk. I took my lab puppy (he's 9 months old and as big as a horse) so he really gave me a workout just trying to hold him back because he wanted to run the whole thing!

More later - back to work

Good Morning and Happy Monday !

Enjoyed the time change last night. Sat outside in the sunshine til after 7 PM. Beautiful weekend in Texas. Planted our garden and took the plants out of the garage. Hoping I'm not jumping the gun. Ideally, we will not have another freeze this season. Cross my fingers.

Love reading this thread, you all are inspirational and have great attitudes. It helps to read through, as I struggled through the weekend. Going out for dinner and lunch was tough. I really need to focus on making better choices from the menu. It is all about my choices, right ? and the wine, love my wine :-) Back on track today !!

Wishing everyone a wonderful week !!

Good Monday Morning Ladies!!!!! I need a favor please. I had written down the "pain book" info but have managed to lose my note. I can't remember who had read it and recommended it - - :blushing: Can you please post again with this info?? Many thanks in advance!

Marvelous Monday, the easiest day of the week to march forth with our methods of moderation. Let's not forget the meaning of measurements! Measure your middle, measure your meatloaf.

Brooke, the book that I use is called Pain Free (A Revolutionary Method For Stopping Chronic Pain) by Pete Egoscue. I believe that's the one being discussed. It's fantastic! It teaches sets of exercises to realign your entire musculoskeletal system. It took 5 months of doing the exercises daily, but my sciatic nerve problems are completely gone!

We had a beautiful sunny Saturday here, then the beloved clouds came to visit again yesterday. It's gray out there again this morning. I have some indoor projects needing attention (cobwebs) which will no doubt turn into a couple hours of cleaning. Must make a grocery run early for veggies.

    A quote from sparkpeople website:

"Every time you misstep on your healthy journey, you have two choices: to keep walking backwards, which will surely take you even further away from your goals; or to accept your lack of perfection as normal and forgivable, and take not one, but two positive steps down the path that brings your closer to the future you want."

Today I start with those steps. I wrote about it in my blog last night, feel free to read if you like. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/jb_2011/view/two-steps-502498

    Have a wonderful day!

I am just not gettin in here on the weekends:blushing: and then it's Part 2 and I'm so far behind!

So I guess I'm just marking a spot to say HI to all of you. Hoping you have a good weekend and today is a successful day for you. I have too much to do:grumble: and there are never enough hours in the day.

Have a good Monday and keep up all the hard work to getting to the new and improved 50+ women that we are.

Happy Monday morning! I've actually gotten through all the posts:bigsmile: .

We are having a great visit with DD. She is sleeping right now (I think she is trying to catch up on 2 months worth in a mere week). Yesterday was DS 20th b-day. Hard to believe I have a 20 year old. He'll be home on Friday night to spend 1/2 his spring break with us. The kids overlap for 1 1/2 days so we are going to do a b-day party next Saturday (DD turns 19 next Sunday - I had Irish twins!). I need to cram in a bunch of work before I get to spend time with my DD this afternoon so no time to respond to everyone.

I've been spoiling DD with all her favorite home cooked meals so was thrilled to actually see the scale down this morning. I think all the weekend activity helped with that

For all those who are experiencing troubled times I'm sending you positive thoughts...hang in there: just keep moving and remember to breath. Find joy in the moment and things will improve

Congrats to all those experiencing success!

I'll do my best to try and keep up with this very active thread while I have the kids home, but know I'll fall way behind given lack of time.

So everyone have a great week. :flowerforyou: Jodios

:flowerforyou: DeeDee, I joined a challenge on MFP about a year ago to do a timed plank every day……I started with one minute and gradually increased the time in 5 second increments…….the challenge fizzled out but I have continued with a plank a day.

:flowerforyou: Sally, good luck to you, I know how stressful it is when hubby has surgery and then needs your help as he recovers

:flowerforyou: Phyllis, congratulations on citizenship in the country you’ve been living in and loving for so long.

:flowerforyou: Jb, it’s a sensational Saturday up here, tool

:flowerforyou: Katla, thank you for your kind words…..i joined this thread in February 2009 and I don’t know how long it had been going already…..sometime later, the woman who started it went on vacation and asked me to start the new thread for the next month and I’ve been doing it ever since…….I would be lost without all of you.

:flowerforyou: Eileen, I am so sorry to hear about your mom……my mom’s last years were in the same town with me and it was still stressful

:flowerforyou: Janie, you have so many decisions to make, no wonder you are stressed…..thanks for the reminder to drink water even if you HATE it……I treat it like a prescription.

:flowerforyou: Janehadji, put a few berries or a small amount of unsweetened applesauce or cinnamon in a vanilla shake and you might like the taste better….blackberries in a chocolate shake taste good too……also if you are faithful about two shakes a day with clean eating for your other meal, they will start to taste better to you.

:flowerforyou: Candy, who walks the dog the days you don’t?

:flowerforyou: Christschild2, you have some great goals….my favorites are sending cards and “not get discouraged”

:flowerforyou: Esther, that’s a great idea to take “try” out of the resolutions…..just do it.

:flowerforyou: Helen, my mother stayed in her own home with caregivers until the end of her life…..she and I argued a lot but now that’s she’s gone I remember her by being grateful for the many things she taught me that continue to make my life wonderful

 :brokenheart: This morning I enjoyed the feeling of gratitude for the last morning before daylights savings time comes and dumps another hour of darkness on my walk with the dogs……the darkness is fine in the winter but now that spring is coming, there is so much to see (flowers, leaf buds, birds) that I really like the daylight
oh, well, it will be better again in a few weeks.

Viv x: You’re right that none of us will be 19 again. Would you want to be?   The Viet Nam War was going on strong. :frown: I lost my favorite cousin there and don’t want to live through that again. You sound pretty down-hearted right now. :ohwell: I hope you can find a way to lift your spirits. Exercise and Calcium plus Vitamin D3 lift my spirits. So does this group. What if you lose the weight and your husband loves the new body just as much as the old one because what he really loves is you, the person inside the body? Good luck.:flowerforyou:

DeeDee: Sometimes we all need a time of rest. I’m happy your body is ready to go again.:flowerforyou:

Grandmallie: Congrats on losing two pounds.:flowerforyou:

BJ: Sounds like there is a lot of excitement in SW Ontario. Have a good week.

Beth in SC: There is nobody quite as enthusiastic as a Lab puppy.

Danni in TX: When I worried about dinner out at Olive Garden with my friends, these wonderful ladies told me I could find the menu online and make my choices before I even went. It really helped me enjoy a great meal that fit my diet needs. Many restaurant chains are posting nutrition and calorie information now.:flowerforyou:

jb in Portland: DH has pain problems connected with his health issues. He has MS and some balance issues. I’m wondering whether Pain Free by Pete Egoscue would help him. What do you think? I liked your blog. You don’t have to give up anything if you can deal with portion control. Buy a scale and dishers to measure every bite. Make your choices and log every bite. Maybe I mentioned log every bite in another post, too. As a person who has already lost 66 pounds, you really don’t need my advice. You are very successful.:flowerforyou:

Jodios: Have a great time with your kids. We’ll still be here when they go back to school.:flowerforyou:

Today is the last full day we have DD and DGD with us for this visit. They’re going home to CO tomorrow evening. We’ve really enjoyed having them come to stay. The baby is pushing two and changing so fast. She’s bigger now than when she arrived, and talking more, too. I’m going to focus on enjoying the remaining visit and not dwelling on the fact that they’ll be leaving soon.

    Good Monday afternoon,

It's been awhile since I've been on here and I can't believe how much I missed. I'll have to read a little at a time to catch all the posts, but just don't have the time today. :blushing:

If you get a chance to see "Blue Man Group", go! It was two hours of pure entertainment! I didn't know what to expect, but I wasn't disappointed.

Played cards this weekend with my girlfriends and went a little crazy with the snacking! I really need to learn to control myself. I wonder why it's so easy sometimes, and other times I just can't stop myself. It's almost like it's better not to have any because once I have a taste, I just keep eating....and eating....and eating! Afterward I am so full that I feel like crap! I must be missing the "knows when she's had enough" gene!:embarassed:

I had an episode of vertigo on Sunday. It was pretty mild in comparison to other times when I have been completely incapacitated, but I still felt lousy all day and woke up with a headache this morning. I wonder what brings them on? My alarm failed to go off this morning, so I didn't have time to walk on the TM. I plan to do it as soon as I get home from work, but it's so much easier to get it done in the morning. :grumble:

My daughter informed me that she is moving in a month. She got a house in upstate PA which is about 5-6 hours from me. I knew she was planning this move, but didn't think it was going to happen so soon. My son already lives out there, and my granddaughter plans to move out that way soon. I don't get to see them much as it is, and I will sure miss those grandbabies! My hubby and I do plan a long weekend out there in July. I guess the reality that they will all be so far away is hitting me like a brick. Our plan is to move south when we retire, so we'll even be further away. But such is life! My chicks have all flown the nest, and I am happy that they will all be together. Just feeling a little down today.

 Thanks for letting me vent. I know that this, too, shall pass!

:flowerforyou: Have a wonderful day, welcome to the newcomers, congrats on all the successes and sorry for all the troubles anyone is having.

Wow! I missed Sunday, and there were 5 new pages to read. I ended up shoveling our entire 200 foot driveway by myself on Saturday, so am definitely looking forward to tomorrow’s massage. Hubby usually does most of the shoveling, but he was at work. When I looked out, some of the drifts had gotten knee-deep and I didn’t think his car had that much clearance, so…. I didn’t want him to get stuck. (We do have a snow blower, but it never works). Hubby went and shoveled my parents out for me, though.

Not sure if I posted this before or not, but my son always asks me what I'm good for when I refuse to wait on him. I tell him that I'm decorative, and his response is "yes, but I don't like antiques!" LOL! I'm not so sure about the sentiment, but I do have to give him points for being clever.

Barbie – Thank you for the Isagenix tips. I saw somewhere that you can do an everyday cleanse with meals instead of the all day fasting/drink cleanse. Have you ever tried that, and what do you think?

Meg – I’ve always thought of it as being more of a self-punishment thing than a fear to succeed, although I suppose that it could be either depending on the person. I notice that I fall off the wagon when I’m unhappy about something and don’t know quite how to deal with it. Contrarily, I sometimes fall off when I’m really happy about something (although not as badly), as I feel more content with myself the way I am at those times. I don’t feel bad about failing at those times. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the psychological aspects of dieting over the years, as I’m convinced that is the key to long-term success. I’ve obviously not yet gotten a good handle on it, but I’m trying! It will be interesting to see what others have to say about this.

Grandmallie – I’m so sorry about your friend, it’s really hard to be losing someone and not be able to be there. My FIL passed 2 ½ years ago under much the same circumstances: severe diabetes and the need for amputation. He declined the amputation and we watched the gangrene progress. One day we just couldn’t physically get him into the car for dialysis, so we arranged hospice and he passed less than a week later. He was mentally clear and made the decision – we just had to honor it, which was really rough.

Sue – My dad does take the eye vitamins. His bad eye recently changed from the dry type of MD to the wet type, but it is too far gone for the treatment to do any good. His better eye has the dry type.

Jackie – Sorry about your cooler bag. Forgetting it sounds a lot like something I would do, so know that you’re not alone!

Michele – Is your new stool the mushroom one?

Kate – I’d never thought of it being a 100 year of body before, but I know exactly what you mean!

Linda Sundance – Glad to see you on here! It sounds like you have a new motivation to succeed, and I know you’ll do it. Surgery isn’t fun, but can work miracles in the long term.

DeeDee – I can just see you doing those sit-ups. And yes, the dog does count as weights!

Renny – Great song! I just rewatched Flashdance a couple of weeks ago. Very cool that you and your sister are writing down childhood memories.

Lila – Great to see you back! How was your trip? Congrats on being a solid size 8! You are an inspiration, as well!

JB – I really liked the Sparkpeople quote.

Lucy – Vertigo is caused by particulate getting stuck in the cilia inside your ears, so that they can’t move freely (sorry, I forgot the correct terminology). I get this every few years. There is a physical therapy manipulation that can make it go away in under 5 minutes – but Kaiser usually take a couple of weeks to get me in for them to do it.

I surived the weekend and then last night I developed an inner ear infection. To me an ear ache is one of the only kinds of pain I just can't deal with. So off to the clinic after work. I am in pain and I am grumpy. The good news is that I haven't seen HER more than a minute so far today. She is off doing something.

My buffer boss (they put a manager between me and her on paper but I still do her bidding) said that they were going to try and move me away from where she sits. That would be awesome. Maybe things will get better.

    Have a lovely day.

I lost you all for a while but Barbie sent me the link to find the gang again. I couldn't figure out where everyone went. Now I have 4 pages to read to catch up.

I did the best work out this morning before school. I live on the 4th floor of our apartment building so I decided I'd do STAIRS. so I ran up and down them for a while and then jogged and walked abound the grounds down stairs for a while. When I got in the house I did push ups and sit up and lifted my weights ( 3 pounds only ) and I was really sweating!. It felt good though and I was happy all day.
Love the new positive attitude and all my work paid off last week cause I lost 3 pounds!!!. I am on the right track FINALLY.

:flowerforyou: This morning I practiced for two hours with the line dance group that will be performing next week…..we’re doing several dances with Irish music and others that are fun and familiar…..there are three newer dancers who just joined our group and will be doing the easier dances and sitting out the others…..it’s good to have new members in the group.

:flowerforyou: Janie, in 34 years of teaching I never figured out how to get out of my classroom on time and not stay awhile to “do one more thing”…….I hope you’ll find the formula.

:flowerforyou: Jmkmomm, I am incapable of eating just one piece of cornbread so that has become one of the foods that is not allowed in my house……..I will order it at a restaurant as part of a small meal.

:flowerforyou: Sally, I hope your husband will be cooperative with whatever eating plan the doctor suggests for the kidney stones……that is the biggest hurdle.

:flowerforyou: BJ, I have my DVR programmed to record the World Figure Skating Championships….how cool that it’s happening in your town.

:flowerforyou: Beth, your new puppy sounds wonderful

:flowerforyou: JaneHadji, I’ve heard about the everyday cleanse but I’ve never tried it and have no personal experience about its effectiveness….I’ve done the all day once a week cleanse and liked the results…..your snow shoveling is awesome…..unless your son is less than five years old or seriously disabled, he should be waiting on you.

:flowerforyou: Phyllis, you are so fortunate to stairs in your building to be part of your workout…..I will have to seek some stairs.

:flowerforyou: I’ve read a lot on this thread about self control (and the lack of it) so I’m going to share my favorite piece of writing on the subject from Gretchen Rubin (“The Happiness Project”)

    :flowerforyou: Abandon Your Self-Control
Instead of working to strengthen your self-control, consider abandoning your self-control, by using the strategy of abstinence. Perhaps surprisingly, for many people, one of the easiest ways to resist temptation is to give something up altogether.
For “abstainers,” it’s easier to decide that something is off-limits, and never indulge. For abstainers, abstaining requires no self-control; indulging in moderation requires enormous self-control. You spend too much time thinking, “Today, tomorrow?” “Does this count?” “Don’t I deserve this?” etc. As an abstainer, it’s easier to say, “I never eat French fries.”
On the other hand, some people are “moderators” who do better when they act with moderation, because they feel trapped and rebellious at the thought of “never” getting or doing something. If you’re a moderator, it’s easier to say, “I can have a few French fries.”
There’s no right way; different approaches work for different people. Recognizing which one suits your nature provides a very helpful strategy for resisting temptation.
The abstainer/moderator split affects relationships, because often a person of one camp will try to persuade a person in the other camp to convert. Abstainers tell moderators, “You should go cold turkey!” and moderators tell abstainers, “It’s not healthy to be so rigid, you should get more fun out of life.” Moderators don’t understand why abstainers don’t want to keep cookies in the house, and abstainers don’t understand why moderators seem to keep breaking their own rules.
Resolve to “Abandon your self-control.” Identify the strategy that allows you to forget about exercising self-control, in order to boost your self-control. And when people in your life are trying to abstain, or to be moderate, don’t interfere with the strategy that works for them.

  Just for the record, I am an abstainer

:flowerforyou: one of my resolutions this month was to contact the osteoporosis doctor and make an appointment. I did that and they asked to have my records faxed over with a referral from my local doctor....I called the insurance people to make sure there wasn't any special paperwork necessary then had the local doctor fax the necessary info....then on Friday I got a letter from the specialist's office asking me to call within 7 days to make an appointment........I called today and was told that I was on a waiting list because the specialist is booked through the spring and her summer schedule isn't available yet for making appointments so they'll call me......so I've done my part and now I just have to wait.

A big, big thank you to who ever mentioned the figure skating:flowerforyou: I just scheduled it all on my DVR, Well, Biggest Loser is on now. Watching it is part frustrating and part inspiration. I do get frustrated when I watch them lose 8 pounds in a week and I have to squeeze every ounce in me to lose a pound. But their dedication ins the inspiration.

Happy Monday evening to my vitamin F pals! Busy day today; the students are now sophomores and starting their new class. So we had skills lab all morning and class all afternoon. It was draining but this way they are ready for clinical and whatever comes up. The snow is melting; it’s gone off the streets and probably won’t be in the grass much longer either. I did get a short workout in; I still have my headache, but it’s better now. I want to get to bed early tonight as I didn’t sleep well last night. I’m trying to ignore this but my headache feels like sinuses….my teeth hurt. :grumble: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I think if I ignore it, it will just go away, don’t you?

Karen: I love the snow too. I’d like to cross country ski or snow shoe.

Sue: constant carbs replaced the old American Diabetic Association diet with limited calories a few years ago with great results. I bet you see a big difference!

Michelle: you sure sound busy all the time! I get tired just reading about your days! For game night, it’s just the 4 of us and sometimes only 3. I’d love to have lots of people over all the time, for holidays too, but everyone has their own families to tend to. It started out as a bonding time for us after we adopted the girls, so it’s really ok that it’s just us. We have included random boyfriends at times!

Jen so nice to see you again! Sounds like you are doing well and that was such a great nsv!!!

Gail: I could smell that chili cooking all the way here, but alas, I was snow bound!

Janie: yes we ARE worth all our efforts!

Jmkmomm: I have a cornbread recipe if you want it…it has ----GASP AND SHUDDER---crisco in it! No leftovers for freezing so I don’t know about that!

Renny: what a wonderful present that will be! Childhood stories! OMgosh I am envious! That will be so cool to pass on! I don’t remember much about my childhood at all and neither does my brother who is 13 years older than I am. I mean to say, he doesn’t remember his childhood either, or much of it. I suspect there was some abuse (my first husband was abusive), but I don’t know. I do envy your good memory!

Liz; I think that was me about the spring cleaning. We spread it out over 2 years though ( I have a schedule!) so it doesn’t over tax us LOL:laugh:

Cranium: what wonderful thoughts about change…thank you for sharing them! They gave me much to think about

Viv: hope your superfast is super good!

Sally: glad to hear hubby is doing better. That is the great thing about this board. There is always some wisdom, kindness, and the occasional kick in the pants when you need it! Come back often

DeeDee: we have written evidence that you said you were looking forward to training! No taking it back now!

Grandmallie: great news on your weight loss!

Danni: wow planting already. We don’t plant til May; our frost date is May 14.

    LindaJ: welcome back

JB: measure your middle and measure your meatloaf. OMG I love it. Did the little doggy measure that giant piece of pizza?

Jodios: enjoy your time with your kids!

Wessecg: use word! You can copy and paste and not have that happen again. I learned from doing that many, many times!

Janemartin: sending good wishes for you to put on your back with the ice/heat!:flowerforyou:

Lucy: I hope your spirits have revived. Moving is always so hard and especially when they are so far away

Janehadji: I think you are on to something about self-punishment. I do the same…worse when I am upset.

Robin: a pox on both your boss and your ear ache. I hope you feel better soon.:flowerforyou:

Laura80111: I’ll be thinking of you and the others Friday eating lobster!

Barbie: I so agree with what you said about not interfering with others’ decisions about what is good for them.

Well I think I better close this and get some work done so I can get to bed early tonight. Sweet dreams to all! Take care, meg:drinker:

THANK YOU, Barbie, for the passage from The Happiness Project! It makes PERFECT sense~ i am putting this book at the TOP of my list to buy!

and, since i do NOT do very well with the moderation thing, i am going to try some abandonment, and try to abstain from some of my "trigger foods" ( the ones i can not resist, and can not control how much i consume)

i AM going to make the effort to leave my classroom earlier in the afternoons~ i probably wll never leave "on time", either..... but if i DO get home earlier, then there's time to go to the gym! (hoping that will be a GREAT incentive)

you always share something that speaks to me~ i'm excited about reading The Happiness Project!

thanks again, :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

    Hello Friends.

Laura, Jane, Brooke and M- I can't wait for lunch on Friday!

Renny- On Saturday I had two meals consisting primarily of fruits and veggies. I bought a bag of greens, but am still clueless about how to fix them.

DeeDee- Dog assistedd sit ups...hilarious! My cat loves to get in the mix whenever I do yoga.

I had a lovely brunch yesterday with a friend who is getting ready to move to Hawaii. DH and I lived in Honolulu for 18 years and still consider ourselves kama'aina. Got back from the brunch and immediately started checking airfares to the islands. Can swimsuit shopping be far behind?

It's early, but I'm bushed. My kittly alarm wasn't likely to adjust for daylight savings time, and in my anxiety to not oversleep past my 4:30 AM workout time, I woke up at 2:30, and could not get back to sleep.

    Stay well.

Hi ladies! About 10 days ago I had a call from ds that started out "I had a little accident...but I am ok "...don't you hate those calls...he was driving an armored tank like vehicle, heading back to base from training and had no brakes...long story short...he went over a cliff but in his words "I followed the best path I could find," and then they crashed...he and the other guy were both ok, no concussion but his face was pretty beatup...I guess, they wouldn't let him shave..kind of important to the Marines and his knee was hurt. He has been on light duty for two weeks and it sounds like he is recovering pretty well..I wish I could see him and make sure he is ok but part of me is thankful I knew nothing until it was over and he was ok. I have two more years of this...yikes but at least he is in CA and not currently deployed.

I guess I just needed to ramble...thanks for listening!

I biked 8 miles this am and started with the carbs and fruit day 1...tomorrow about the same ...but will use my kettlebells for workout..enjoyed my vitamin f today...hugs and high fives!

:flowerforyou: Barbie - I love what you quoted on self-control. I am an abstainer on some things and a moderate user on others.

:flowerforyou: Rori - if you google for recipe for fruits and veggies, you will find a ton of them. Pinterest is also a great source. Greens can be part of smoothies, or salad or perhaps something you might discover on one of those fantastic recipe websites. Personally I use them in salads, but everyone is different.

:flowerforyou: Jen (bjhobs) - 8 miles of biking is great. veggies and fruits have carbs, they're your friends. I've never done kettlebells, but I hear they are a good work out. I appreciate your sentiments on your son. Sometimes it's better for parents not to know all the details.

I heard from my optometrist today that she will pay for the replacement of my left lens (that's the one in contention). I told her I would call her back. I wish she had said "I'll pay for a total new pair of lenses, because that is what great customer service is about!!" Oh well.

I better get ready for Zumba♫
