upping my proteins

hi folks,
I've been told to up my proteins and reduce my carbs a bit;
reducing carbs is easy, I'm looking for ways to up the proteins;
I only eat 'normal' foods, no supplements and the like, I'm on a lifestyle change, not a diet,
I'm going to start by introducing a handful of almonds as a snack replacement to a biscuit,
anybody got any nice protein food ideas?
thanks, :-)

Good sources of protein, in my mind, are foods that have more protein than any other macronutrient.
Nuts, by this definition, are good sources of fat.
Get protein from fish (I sometimes eat a can of tuna with relish if I am low on protein. 100 calories and 22g protein right there)
That plus chicken, beef, greek yogurt, egg white omelets, and protein powder are the main ways I get my protein. Supplements are completely includable in a lifestyle, but if you aren't willing to buy protein powder, you are going to have to try a little harder.0 -

thank you for this; I'm upping the nuts a bit, and more fish is a great shout :-)0 -
Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ground turkey, chicken, fish, beef. There are lots of ways to get protein. And a lot of people who live a healthy lifestyle use protein powder or eat protein bars. My husband eats homeade protein bars and drinks a protein shake pretty much every day. He has lost over 100 pounds and has kept it off for over 6 years now. Good luck!0

I get my protein from:
whey
milk
cheese
cottage cheese
greek yoghurt
eggs / egg whites
pumpkin seeds / nuts
protein bars
tofu
seitan
lentils/pulses
soy 'meat' products
soya beans
I don't eat meat but obviously you could add
chicken
turkey
fish
lean beef / pork
etc. etc.0 -
Try a protein shake like Jay Robb.0

Also trying to up my protein- I now have a mid morning snack of 150g cottage cheese and a mid afternoon snack of 100g Greek yoghurt. Try to have tuna, egg or salmon for lunch with a salad. Not seeing any improvement yet but its great not to feel hungry mid morning!0

:flowerforyou: certain beans are high in protein, eggs, fish,chicken & beef. make sure your meat is very lean.0

I don't particularly like eating meat, so I take protein powder. I add it to yoghurt and porridge, you don't have to use it in a shake.0

Protein breakfasts - eggs, greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, smoked fish, bacon, sausage
Protein lunches - bean stew, tuna salad,
Protein dinners - fish, chicken, steak,
Protein snacks - humous, roast soy nuts/ broad beans/ wasabi peas, edemame, crab sticks, jerky, boiled egg, cheese. Nuts are OK in moderation but they dont pack the most protein for the calories and fat.0 -
Apart from meat and fish and eggs, Greek yogurt is my main protein source.0

thanks for this advice; I've bought some powder now, the reviews say it tastes horrid :-) so I'll try it in yoghurt & porridge, any other suggestions of how to take it gratefully appreciated :-)0 -
I make a super delicious tuna salad! Just mashed up avocado, some tuna, and a couple hard boiled eggs super easy and lots of healthy proteins and fats! I make enough to usually last me for the week0

Protein pancakes are awesome! Mix a scoop of protein powder, I use vanilla, with 3 egg whites and a splash of water. Mix well, you have to stir quite a bit to get the lumps out, or at least most of them. Then fry up like a pancake, watch carefully they don't bubble like a real pancake so be careful not to burn. They are so good! I had that for dinner last night with some lite laughing cow cheese and warmed up blackberries.
The only way I can hit my protein goals at this point is to add in powder and bars, you can look at my diary if you like.0 -
Cottage cheese is grea as well for upping protien without piling on calories, depending on the milkfat% you select.
My favorite hot-weather meal is cottage cheese with fresh peaches, skin and all. Good fiber and mineral content as well!0 -
Lentils too! Great in soups, salads, as a side mixed with brown rice... easy to prepare and rather inexpensive.0

those that have suggested great meals, thank you;
those that have opened their diaries, thank you
all great ideas0
