I have noticed recently that when someone asks a question that has already been answered a bunch of times, they get snippy and make the person feel like crap. Are we not all on here for a reason? to help and motivate each other? Instead of belittling a person just post a link to the previous discussion on the subject and be nice!:explode:
I have done a little research on the sh**y answers to some topics and made some conclusions, rightly or wrongly.
Around 75% of the said sh**ty answer are from people with over 200 posts..the answers seem to get worse with the more posts the said people have under their belts.
Maybe it is because they are bored with seeing the same topics come up, and not realise that they were new once?
Maybe they are just full of sh1t?
Maybe they just want to add numbers to their profile?
But my serious answer is "it is the internet," don`t worry about what strangers type to you or others, take it with a pinch of salt if they put you or anyone else down.
They have a 100 to a 1,00,000 miles from you behind a computer monitor.
A lot of MFP people are really helpful and constructive, so stick with those x0 -
Every thread takes up space. So when some one starts a thread about a topic that has been asked and answered ad nauseum, people tell them. I dont think its snippy, more educational. Just use the search feature. You could have done a search and found all the same answers you are gonna get here.0

When you put a bunch of hangry, lonely, no-self-esteem-but-pretend-like-they're-better-than-everyone-else DB's together in one place, they gotta take it out on someone so they wait around like predators stalking innocent, idealistic prey (like yourself) and feed on your... whatever it was that made you notice that they do it. The trick is not to end up becoming one of them. May the force be with you0

The internet brings out the jerk in people. Text can be misunderstood, but it can also be a passive-aggressive way of being a jerk and covering yourself to say, "Oh, I didn't mean it like that..."
Best thing to do, skip over jerk comments, just ignore them. Focus on the actual replies that are constructive. It's hard sometimes, but just remember - you can't argue with stupid and you can't make a jerk nice.
A Perfectly Awesome Response...thank you for being so honest!
I know some sites that both bring out the jerk, and make the jerk nice0 -

If people would read the sticky threads like MFP tells them to when they sign up, it would solve a lot of problems. The stickies are basically the instructions on how to use this tool properly and how it works, among other important things.
So...yeah, it's really annoying when someone asks about...for example...eating back exercise calories. This is covered in the stickies (the instruction manual). So, it's pretty much akin to getting a tool and calling the manufacturer customer service in RE to how to use it...when the instructions are included with the friggin' tool. And seriously, if you weren't supposed to eat them back then why would MFP up your GOAL when you log exercise? I mean c'mon...get out a dictionary and look up the word GOAL for cryin' out loud.
This is just one example among many. They say there is no such thing as a stupid question, but I beg to differ...especially if you can look in the topic and it's right there...same question, 20 friggin' times.0 -
You poor girl, you haven't figured out the 3 unspoken rules of the MFP forums yet.
1) Kiss *kitten* to the "popular" people (some of them have already posted here, I see) and get them to like you. This is crucial to whether you consistently get flamed / ignored / "insulted" (see #2) or get silly little responses and inside joking.
2) No one is "mean" or "negative" here. It's the internet! Which is essentially a free pass to say anything and everything you want, in as rude or sarcastic of a tone as you like. If you read a comment and are rubbed the wrong way by it, that is YOUR fault. Because nobody here would EVER intentionally say something worded in a way that was indirectly offensive, rude, or belittling!
3) This site is not for "support". This site is a constant e-c0ck-waggling contest. This is a site for people to say "Look at me, I'm so great-- and don't you dare try to tell me that me, or anyone I like, has to help you in any way. Nevermind that this is a forum where people come for advice who know nothing about weight loss! They should have done exactly what I did, and found it all out myself before coming here!"
Needless to say, I'm not very good at following rules. And I'm probably going to get reported for this post, but I don't really care. OP, do yourself a favor and just avoid this thread, it'll get shut down soon anyway.0 -
People with very few forum posts = I agree people are nasty meanies.
People with many forum posts = funny gifs
I know which type of poster I appreciate the most.
I especially appreciate cute cat gifs.....with big eyes....0 -
For the same amount of energy it took to leave a snide remark the person could have easily answered the question..no?... Also, there is a such a thing as "adding value" and although some may see it as a nuisance it may help someone else to have the question/situation resurface. Perhaps the person that left a negative comment in the thread had nothing else of value to offer, in which case it probably would be best best to leave well enough alone. I have found that with many of these sorts of forums and environments it helps to have thick skin. It should not be that way, but unfortunately humans are flawed and we do not at times treat others as we should.0

Further, "taking up space"? Have you ever been on the internet? Or any other board? Taking up space is a stupid reason to get sassy with someone when they ask a legit question. Taking up what space? Are you physically having to do anything more than click to get to the content YOU want to read? As there are always new people on the forums of various educations and backgrounds, every time a question is asked, you could also expand your horizons and learn something new if you choose to open the thread. If you don't want to read something, you simply ignore it.0 -
