alcohol and weight loss

I usually drink about 5 nights a week ( me and the husbands unwind time after the kids are in bed) and I was curious if anyone knew how detrimental it is to my weight loss goal? I know it is empty calories so I try and compensate by keeping my calorie intake a bit lower then recommended. I usually drink wine or vodka and tonic...any info would be much appreciated

If you're tracking the alcohol calories and keeping within your calorie goal, it's not going to derail your weight loss at all.0

Same here. It really hit me how true it is that they say it is empty calories once I started MFP. This is a good question and I am interested to hear everyones advice. I hope that as long as we account for it, it shouldn't hurt us too bad. I am unlikely to let myself go over if it is a beer that causes me to.0

If you switch to soda instead of tonic, you can save about 80 calories or just have more vodka.0

well I use diet tonic...and hate the taste of soda...I already make it strong just add tonic because I like the bubbles lol0

micheleb15 that was a very funny response I vote for more vodka. Not! But I was told that if you eat food and drink alcoholic beverages that you body burns the alcohol calories first. So I have challenged myself to go a month without the happy juice to see if I could boost my weight lost. I0

Here is a good article about alcohol and fat loss. Basically alcohol is not that detrimental to fat loss. You just need to avoid the high calorie mixes.

You are either not logging everything or under eating by quite a bit on many days, your alcohol isn't logged all of those 5 days and your protein seems on the low side.
Yes, you can drink and lose. You can not log and lose.
But why not use the site as it was intended?0 -
Drinking Loser Here.:drinker:
Vodka or Rum with no-cal mixer or light wine.
My goal for March was to measure acurately and log all of it.0 -
This link is helpful: http://getdrunknotfat.com/
But personally I have found that drinking does hinder my weightloss... even if I'm staying within my calories. I notice when I cut it from my diet or only have a drink or two on weekends.. it makes for a better time on the scale.0 -

I log everything I eat, usually drink in the evening before bed so forget to log the alcohol on occasion...but will definitely make a point to log it from now on0 -
