Here is what I got from fat2fitradio.com Military Body Fat Calculation
February 1, 2013
"Here's the information that you entered:
• Sex: female
• Weight: 204 pounds
• Neck: 14.5 inches
• Waist: 44.5 inches
• Hip: 47.2 inches
Based on this information, you have a lean body mass of 103.1 pounds. Your lean body mass includes everything in your body that's not fat. Now that we know your lean body mass, let's find out how much fat you're carrying around. We'll subtract your lean body mass from your weight and find you currently have 100.9 pounds of fat on your body.
Your body fat percentage is 49.4%."

"Here's the information that you entered:
• Sex: female
• Weight: 196.6 pounds
• Neck: 14 inches
• Waist: 36.5 inches
• Hip: 45 inches
Based on this information, you have a lean body mass of 118.1 pounds. Your lean body mass includes everything in your body that's not fat. Now that we know your lean body mass, let's find out how much fat you're carrying around. We'll subtract your lean body mass from your weight and find you currently have 78.5 pounds of fat on your body.
Your body fat percentage is 39.9%."
Here is my question: how accurate are these calculators? Is there a more accurate one I could use? There is no way I will believe that I gained 15 pounds of lean mass in 1.5 months

Not sure how accurate the calculators are. I use them too, and they say I've gone down 9% in about the same time as you. It also says I've increased my lean body mass (but only by about 7 pounds). All I can say for sure is that there is a HUGE difference in the way you look! Keep up the great work!0

Well probably not that accurate, but you look wonderful! Way to go!0

Thanks0

not sure either but based on your picture, you definitely decreased your body fat%0

I would think by the look of your picture that it's quite accurate.Looking great btw!0

First off, congratulations on your fantastic results! Regardless of the accuracy of the numbers, I can see a dramatic change in your body and you should be proud of your accomplishment this far!
I have a similar question about the accuracy of the calculators.
Let me start with a wonk alert, I am a data junkie and tend to over-analyze things. With that said...
I ran my numbers through the military calculator about 3 weeks ago and was shocked when the number came back at 44.3%, nearly half of my body weight was fat!
After inputting this morning's data into the 3 body fat calculators on the fat2fitradio site I was surprised to find 3 drastically different numbers ranging from 27.5% (fat2fit original body fat calculator), to 29.3% (Covert Bailey method), to 42.7% (military calculator). What I find interesting is that neither the fat2fitradio original nor the Covert Bailey formulas take height into account. While I would love to believe my bf% is 27%, looking at the pictures of different women's bodies at different percentages on the homepage at fat2fitradio, I believe my actual percentage is in the area of 35% (which, incidentally, is about the average of the three numbers).
I did the same for my husband's data and again got different results at about 18.3% (military) and 20.5% (fat2fit original). He recently had his body fat measurement at the gym which came in at 21%.
I guess the takeaway for me is that the number is decreasing, regardless of which calculator I choose to use. However, I did go ahead and order a skinfold caliper and Accumeasure myotape tape measure from Amazon for about $10 so I can get some more accurate data to play with.0 -

From the look of your pic? Pretty darn accurate. Great job there.0 -
When I entered my measurements in the three calculators, I got 34% (fat2fit original body fat calculator), 29% (Covert Bailey method), and 38% (military calculator). I had it checked via a machine that measures the electrical resistance from one hand to the other and the result was 30.5%. So for me the Covert Bailey method was the closest.0

Thanks, will try the Covert Bailey method0 -

Yes, I think this one makes more sense. This says I've gained 4 pounds of lean muscle and lost 5.4% body fat. These seem like much more realistic numbers.0

I use this one.. http://www.skinbodyfitness.com/bmr_bmi_bfp.htm
it's been fairly accurate so far for my purposes. All BF measurements can be slightly inaccurate. I have had the same huge drop in BF% when I used to be 40%.. I lost 10%BF in one month.. as I got closer to 25, it took more time to get to 25% compared to losing the 10% in one month0 -
P.S. You look great! Keep going!0

I have just taken my readings and am surprised at the difference. No idea which one to believe (will likely ignore both)
Military - 34.1% fat
Covert Bailey 24% fat
I know which one I would rather believe but I also know which one is more likely to be right!0 -
