BMR??

New here....looks like a great way to stay on top of food intake and exercise. Question: What is BMR? Also, after I signed up, I note I have a 2,000 calorie a day starting point. How was that determined? My weight and height? And don't people vary in terms of their static calorie needs (no activity...just living) in a day? I am running 500-600 a day calorie deficits with my exercise and have been in for a week...only lost a half pound. I am thinking static "start" point should be lower...perhaps 1,800 or 1,600?? Where can I find more info on this? Thank you!

The calculation is based on your data that you entered when you joined. It can also be reviewed at

I have personally noticed that the quality (nutritional value) and not the quantity also plays a factor in your success. Slow but steady weight loss is viewed as being better than quick dramatic weight loss. Depending on how much you are overweight will affect how much dramatic weight loss is experienced at the beginning.
Hope that all helps.0 -

Well, I would recommend to never eat below your BMR. BMR is what your body burns in 24 hours if you were to just lay in bed all day. Your body needs those calories to function properly. Otherwise, your body metabolism will slow down and treat it as starvation mode.0

If you have a deficit of 500 per day it means you are burning 3,500 cal per week that is exactly what you need to burn a pound of fat. The good news is that the pound you lose is fat. You can look online. I was surprised when I discovered it. It explains why it is very hard to loose weight for me. I am starting to do twice a day workout so I can increase my metabolism and actually have a deficit of the 500 cal or more. Good luck!0
