Wasn't losing weight....until I ate more carbs!!

So funny story, I have insulin resistance. This means my body makes extra insulin than normal so it burns through sugar quickly and puts me into "starvation" mode. This can eventually lead to diabetes type 2 and it is inherited. I do not want to be overweight or diabetic so I have been working for the past 2 months to fix myself. For the last few weeks I had absolutely no progress...I didn't lose, and in fact, I gained a pound and a half. I ate healthy, around 1200 calories almost every day, took vitamins, and I worked out at least an hour circuit training every other day... And yet I was stuck. I was so frustrated. One night after a had a hard science test I just wanted pizza for dinner. 2 slices put me over my calories by a hundred for the day but I felt it was worth it. The next morning I had lost 2 pounds. I talked it over with a friend and I decided to start eating MORE carbs (about 50% of my daily diet instead of 40%). Every day since then I have lost about half a pound. Everything i have read about insulin resistance says eat less carbs! I know it sounds crazy but I think my body needed the extra carbs to use up the insulin... Otherwise it was in fat storage mode. That being said, I'm still eating a healthy and balanced diet and the carbs I do eat are healthier choices, like whole wheat pasta and breads. (pizza just isn't a good choice every night). It just goes to show you that dieting is a science. You have to take time to learn what your body needs. I just wanted to put it out there for those of you struggling with weight loss and getting frustrated. Something to think about.

Even a diabetic needs 130 g of carbs minimum a day. Aren't you working with a nutritionist, if you have insulin resistance?

I have had similar experiences. For the most part, I eat well and I've been exercising a bunch more. I never exercised, but since committing to this weight loss thing, I've been exercising almost everyday. My weight loss has been so slow. It seems that it's the day after I've "cheated" that I lose weight.

For the past three days you have not eaten ANY fruits or vegetables. You really need to get help from a nutritionist to learn how to manage your condition, because they way you are eating is the way to sickness and worsening of insulin problems.

I don't normally look at diaries, but after the post about zero fruits/veggies I took a peek. And I'm dying to know, what is Skeghetti?

I was at a standstill for about 2 weeks, before that I was consistently losing 1lb a week. I had a couple of cheat days eating pasta and even some fries, going over my calories but eating almost at maintenance level and I started losing again. I have pre-diabetes.
