Healthy Low Cal Salad Dressing Recipes?

Hello guys!

Do you know of some good low cal salad dressing recipes? In my family we've always eaten it with oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and herbs. It's not that it's not yummy, but it gets boring with time. :-)

All possible combinations are welcome!

Thanks! :-)

Some reduced fat dressings I use are:

Light ranch: 2/3 buttermilk, 1/3 mayonnaise, garlic salt, herbs

Asian: 1/3 hazelnut or walnut oil, 1/3 soy sauce, 1/3 balsamic vinegar

Less oil than a normal vinaigrette which is typically 1/4 vinegar to 3/4 olive oil.

I fond a commercial Product by a company named Litehouse refrigerated in the produce aisle of my grocery Store. They have several Organic offerings but the one I like best is Raspberry-Lime, You can actually taste the Lime and the raspberry in every bite. Here is the good news: 40 calories!! You can live with that for a little something different!

Litehouse is really expensive, but DELICIOUS. Their ranch is just too good.

I suck at making my own salad dressings so I take the kens lite dressings and water it down. I think most of their lite dressings are only 70 cals anyway for 2 tablespoons.

I just use red wine vinegar. I really like it and it doesn't contain sodium :)

Here's another I use for caprese on a regular basis

    1 Tbsp Olive Oil
    1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
    1/2 tsp dried basil
    1 clove minced garlic
    1/4 tsp paprika
    salt and pepper to taste

I serve this on lots of different salads, but one of our favorites is a bed of mesculin greens with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and small slices of fresh mozzarella. Top off with freshly torn basil leaves and dressing. My hubby's favorite salad.

    Greek Dressing

    About 55 cals per tbs

    • 1 cup olive oil
    • 2-3/4 teaspoons garlic powder
    • 2-3/4 teaspoons dried oregano
    • 2-3/4 teaspoons dried basil
    • 2 teaspoons pepper
    • 2 teaspoons salt
    • 2 teaspoons onion powder
    • 2 teaspoons Dijon-style mustard
    • 1-1/3 cups red wine vinegar

This is a very good dressing & it has a long shelf life.
The trick to keeping it from separating is to put everything in the blender except the oil & herbs.
Run the blender on medium high and very slowly drizzle the oil to emulsify.
Stop the blender, add herbs and pulse once or twice.

I use this on chicken & baked potatoes also. This will knock your socks off.
  • Kind of an Asian style dressing I recently fell in love with...

    1/2 cup olive oil
    1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
    1/4 cup honey
    1/4 cup soy sauce
2 cloves garlic (or however much u like)
1 tsp chopped ginger (however much u like)

    Makes 64 tbsp's
    20 calories per. tbsp
  • Awesome Honey mustard:
6oz container of plain Greek yogurt 1.5 tbs of honey 1tbs mustard 1/2 tbs of lemon juice onion powder and garlic powder to taste. You can add a little stevia or salt if want.

It's great on salad or dipping chicken!

My family loves this dressing! It is wonderful on a spinach salad. It is part of our Christmas tradition (but we eat it anytime! LOL.) Spinach, craisins, green onions, toasted pecans and this dressing. Just a nice, light, easy salad to go with our prime rib for dinner.
