I'm gonna be spending the weekend in St Louis and have 0 ideas of where to eat or what is popular around the area. I want to atleast try and maintain my healthy eating habits but i'm open to a good greasy cheeseburger or pizza if they are a "to die for, you must try it while you are there" kinda food. For those who live here or around it or have even vistied yourself, where should I eat or where have you eaten that would be a good suggestion to go and try. Thanks in advance

i hear they do BBQ good there0

You want good authentic italian, go the the Hill. (google it).0
-
I haven't been in several years but Leclade's landing downtown had a lot of little joints to eat at. Nothin to die for but the atmosphere was nice.0
-
for Italian you GOTTA go to the hill, if you want BBQ you need to go to Pappys but get there early as food sells out quickly. and in terms of pizza, just order an IMO's, st louis style thin crust with provel cheese... oh it's yummy0
-
oh one more thing, toasted ravoli.... it's the St Louis treat!0
-
I just checked out this "hill" place, looks legit, Gonna check it out...need like 5 more places now lol!0
-
The Old Spaghetti Factory at Laclede's Landing is a really cool place to eat... just don't venture down any back alleys!0
-
We have some of the best Italian food in the country. Go to any place on the "Hill". Must try "toasted ravioli". It's fried, not toasted, so go easy. Most restaurants have some kind of "famous" salad, usually with Provel cheese and some thick dressing. Again, go easy, this stuff is rich! For pizza, you will want Imo's. It's craker thin and loaded with provel cheese and any topping you could want. The "Loop" has just about any kind of food you could imagine. Wineries...any of them, they are all good! And don't forget to wash it all down with a Budweiser!0

If you want to take a little drive on the River Road to Grafton, they have great fish (fried of course!) and the Grafton winery is wonderful! Plus you might get to see a bald eagle at the same time! (Crap, I just gained 5 pounds thinking about the fish at the Finn Inn! ugh!)0
-
yep gotta wash it down with an ice cold bud or a great local brew called Schafly. With the weekend wx forecast not sure the wineries out in St Charles county would be a good idea (I swear it's like mother nature wants to hang on to winter or something this year) but there's a lot of good food options around STL0

I've always loved the pizza at Joanie's in Soulard.
And speaking of Soulard, you should definitely check out the awesome farmer's market there.0 -
oh sooo many options....assume you are going to be in the general downtown area....is this solo or with family or business (will help me make suggestions)...ok im gonna give you my favorites as I am a st louis girl, but i will warn you they are not going to be the best healthy options...all of these places have decent healthy options but thats not why i recommend them:
Pizza-Joanies in Soulard-absolute best pizza, PI in the Loop if you like deep dish (although this particular restaurant is not a fave)
Pickles Deli-downtown-AMAZING
in Soulard-Chavas Mexican-delicious fish tacos-amazing chimis-delightful mango margaritas-and fried cheesecake is great (and i dont even like cheesecake
also in Soulard (which is *almost downtown anyway*-McGurks-its mostly Irish pub but they have a grilled veggie sandwich that is great, as is the reuben
Soulard-1111Mississippi-a little more upscale-chefs create masterpieces-yumminess
BBQ-Pappys is the best but like someone said get there early, lines are long and food sells out, also Bogarts (in Soulard where else) chef from pappys owns it so still deliciousness
Definitely the Soulard Farmers market on a saturday
Aris Greek Food (if thats your thing-authentic and yummy)
There are a TON more that I am leaving out but these are always my first picks for a night out or a great lunch0 -
I'll be solo we are going down as a group of us but we usually split off and do our own thing, I like to venture the cities they like to sit in the hotels.0
-
ok then i stick to all of my previous suggestions..especially given that soulard is just a pretty fun little area anyway, lots of little pubs, bars, etc to pop in to, the market is huge, the brewery is RIGHTTHERE, and there are always people out and about, i definitely prefer it over the landing, and the dining there is 100x better.0

Zia's and/or Joey B's on the Hill for Italian. O'Connell's which is at the entrance of "The Hill" ( for Burgers). Tuckers Place in Soulard for Steaks.0

If you want to eat fresh and local..........Local Harvest Cafe in Tower Grove area. If you are going to be mainly in the downtown area The Burger bar in the Lumiere Casino has fantastic food also.
There is also Lola on 14th street, J Bucks is good too. Schafly Tap room has great food and locally brewed microbrewery with lots of flavors of beer on tap.
Mike Shannon's has great food too.
If you get a chance to go to The Hill, there are a lot of GREAT authentic italian restaurants too.
If you want Asian (sushi) The Drunken fish is awesome.
If you want the best BBQ, then you have to go to Pappy's Smokehouse.0 -
There are a ton of restaurants just south of Downtown in Soulard.
And you must go to Soulard Farmers Market on Saturday, it is the oldest farmers market in the US west of the Mississippi.0 -
Italian at the Hill is amazing. Also, I LOVE the Delmar area and a restaurant called Blueberry Hill. They have great beers on draft and they have AMAZING jerk chicken! Have fun!
Also, if you're feeling crazy I'd check out the children's museum... i'm 28 and it's still one of the coolest places I've ever been and I'd go again... and they serve alcohol haha.0 -

Not too far from the foot of the Arch. There is a really good place that has open air dining. I had a scallop plate there that was amazing. It's on the North side of the street. Do not go to BIG DADDY'S unless you want to smell like puke the rest of the day!0 -
If you like BBQ.... not at all healthy for you. Go to Pappy's BBQ. Delicious.
It also depends on where you're staying and how far you are willing to travel.
If you are staying downtown, I recommend just wandering and trying places. I have not been disappointed yet!0 -
During my recent trip to STL, I very much enjoyed a place in the Central West End called Fountains on Locust. Alcoholic Milkshakes... That's all I'm sayin! They have food too, but I wasn't really interested in that!0

Sweetie Pie's for macaroni and cheese & Ted Drews for frozen custard are classics. My favorite is just across the street from Ted Drews, called Aya Sofia. Great Mediterranean and Greek food. Best lamb shank you'll ever eat. Oh and Crown Candy for the worlds biggest BLT sandwich (8 oz. of bacon).0

I just moved in near St. Louis. I don't have any suggestions but I'm probably going to go to some places listed here. :>0

no to lacledes landing just no. too dangerous lately0 -
what part of st louis? important to know!0

If anyone suggests Imo's Pizza, run away, run away fast. Places to check out: Central West End on Euclid between Delmar and Forest Park or the Delmar Loop in University City (where I live), the Hill is good for good authentic Italian. Someone mentioned Sweetie Pies. My new favorite restaurant is Crushed Red in the Clayton area just west of St. Louis, great salads and flat bread pizza.0
-
University City has a cool diner I think it's themed from BB King? Or some jazz player lol
White Castle is not all it's cracked up to be. Ate it and was totally disappointed.
Things to do: They have a casino.. wasn't much to me but I do live close to Vegas lol. The botanical gardens was really awesome (like 3rd best in the world), Mind as well see the arc and the rams stadium and University City was my favorite.. they were having some street festival at the time it actually reminded me of Santa Monica a little bit. Architecture is very nice too I didn't see a track home structure the entire time I was there lol0 -
I am from the area originally and I agree with several others...if you are going to be in the city you MUST go to "The Hill" and there are tons of good Italian restaurants, all very original and authentic. We like Cunetto's and Favazza's but there are SOOO many good ones, you can get on a good site like TripAdvisor and look them up. A neat and unique side trip is to go N of St. Louis on the Illinois side and drive up the River Road along the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers with the majestic bluffs towering over you. Still probably some Bald Eagles around to watch. And there is always plenty of river traffic. When you get to Grafton, IL there are several wineries, and the Fin Inn which has large aquariums full of native river fish, turtles etc. at each table.0

If you're going to the Busch Brewery, swing by Gus's to pick up a bag of some of THE BEST SOFT PRETZELS (outside of Philly, that is).0
-
Café Natasha on South Grand (Middle Eastern),
Pho Grand on South Grand (Vietnamese),
Gelateria Del Leone on South Grand (Desserts/Ice Cream),
City Diner on South Grand (Late night food),
Olympia Kebob House & Taverna in Dogtown (Greek),
McGurk's Irish Pub
Schlafly Tap Room
Dressel's Public House
Chris' Pancake House
Mango (Tapas)
Also check out The Grove area and City Museum (Which is not what you think of as a museum)0
