This is why I weigh every day....

I weigh myself daily. I think the difference between when i weigh myself daily NOW versus when i was doing the same thing before is that i'm not hung up on a certain number that i need to reach. I'm much more concerned with how i look and feel rather than what the scale says. I don't get depressed if the scale "won't budge" or whatever the complaints are that come up on here all the time, i just keep chugging along.0

I weigh daily twice a day. I weigh in the mornings and evenings. I find it fun to see the change through a day. Sometimes if I have had a really busy day it isn't till I hit the scale that I realize I must not have had enough to drink. I then make sure the next day to increase my water. I find the information useful and if I get discouraged I remember the fluctuations can be from all kinds of things.0

Weighing to understand your body fluctuations is fine. But you only need to do that once or twice and never again. Once you know, that's it. You know.
Weighing every day whilst trying to lose fat can be very demotivational when people don't fully understand how the body works, therefore I'd advise against a scale all together.
The number really doesn't matter.
The number on the scale isn't imprinted on your forehead and nobody asks you every single day "Hey, what do you weigh?" or "Awww, man! I'd Love to weigh that amount"
More often they'll think "I'd love to look how he/she does"
People see you, not your number.

But I get SO depressed when I see a gain of any kind. It really effects my mood for the rest of the day.
I used to weigh myself one day a week, but now am up to two times. First thing in the morning I am heavier than at 9 AM for some reason, so I like to weigh in on Saturdays when I am home at 9AM (hey, it works for me) and then on wednesdays when I am up at 6.
I wish I had your attitude about it, but seriously, my day is ruined if I see a gain of any kind.0 -
I weigh myself every morning as well, but I only record when there is a loss. Sometimes it takes a few weeks but I eventually get there.0

I'm a daily weigher. I use the Libra app on my phone so it creates a graph and I can see a downward trend, even with daily fluctuations.
When I used to weigh weekly, I got SOOO discouraged after a week of working out and healthy eating, only to get on the scale and see nothing or a gain.
The weekly build-up/let-down was too detrimental, but somehow the daily fluctuations are easier on my psyche. I only record here when I drop below my last recorded weight.
I kind of agree!! I was only weighing ever other week or two, and the scale didnt change at all, so it felt like I did all the work for nothing. I weigh daily. Today I was up 1.2 lbs from yesterday, and I ate great and exercised, so I know its not fat! I dont freak. It usually hovers around the same weight for a couple days, then one day I``ll have a sudden 2-3 lbs drop! Love when that happens!

I don't need a scale for that, my joints let me know when I am retaining water.0

You don't have to weigh every day, but when you avoid the scale you withhold helpful information from yourself.0 -
I weigh daily. I only log new lows on MFP but I have the Libra App and have been recording on there daily. I typically lose all my weight for the week in about 3 or 4 days then maintain for the other few days then lose again. It's interesting to watch the trends. I also record my daily calories, weights, weekly measurements, and monthly cycle information in an Excel spreadsheet and track all of that.
I like the data, I know I'm eating right to lose weight so I don't care about the fluctuations, sometimes it's a little annoying to see a jump in the scale but if it's expected (heavier workout, drinking booze, eating too much one day causing water weight) it doesn't actually bother me or affect my day.
I disagree that you only need to figure out the trends and then you shouldn't weigh as much. There are plenty of people who only maintain by weighing daily. I know that for me, the mirror lies. Yesterday it told me I weighed about 300 pounds, my scale told me I was still at 165 and my hormones were effecting my vision. At the same time, the reason my weight got so high in the first place is because I had an old, not very functional scale that did not reflect anywhere near my actual weight so I was able to fool myself into believing that I weighed a lot less than I did. Like I said, for me, the mirror lies (in both directions).0 -

I like this!0 -
I weigh myself every day, but I take a weekly average as a way to gauge overall success in this area of health. It balances out the highs and lows and when you compare weekly averages over time, it gives a more accurate picture of overall weight loss, especially when compared to other physical measurements.0

Daily weights here (every morning, first thing); only record when I have a loss. This, more than anything, has taught me patience and that a small gain is temporary. Completely agree with the poster who made the "Knowledge is Power" comment.0

I didn't know there is another one like me I do the exact same thing - record only when scale goes down during my daily morning weigh-ins. I always ignore any gain even when it lasted for a week because I know it will go down eventually as long as I watch what I eat and do my workout routines0 -
Everybody is different, but I agree with the OP - weighing myself every day reminds me that there WILL be those daily fluctuations. It also keeps me mindful of what I eat on a dailybasis.0

I weigh every day too - but I only record on Saturdays.0

I agree with you, but dont weigh everyday. i may go a week, two weeks or maybe a few days depending on my eating and life habits. Whats great is I dont stress about the number so much now. Before i would see a small loss or gain and it would send me off the rails........now I think 'pffff stupid scales, how do my jeans fit?'0

I weight myself 2 times a week0
-
I weigh everyday purely out of curiosity but I know it's very easily affected - yesterday I weighed myself, went for a 40 minute run and was a kilo lighter (2.2lbs) when I returned. It's a fun game: how much can I sweat off. I promptly drank it all back as I didn't want to be dehydrated.0

I do this as well, but I never let it worry me. If I have a big meal, I can see it on the scale. It just serves as a reminder that I don't need to have more than one big meal that day (or maybe that week). I think you just have to do what works best for you. If you find that it helps you stay under control, then weigh every day. If you find it discouraging, weigh once a week. I find that I generally weigh the least on Thursday evenings or Friday mornings (because I've been more disciplined for the previous four days), so I make that my "official" weigh-in number.0

Weighing and logging it every day gives you this lovely sinusoidal graph, like a weigh loss biorhythm.
You do it long enough, no weight increase freaks you out, you look forward to the next dip!
It's natural to feel a little disappoint when you put on weight, but logging everyday makes you realise that any gain is just temporary.
Cheers,

"sinusoidal"? Really?
Dude, you really need to post that you used this word in a real sentence in Success Stories! :flowerforyou:0 -
Every morning I get up, use the restroom, then weigh myself. I like to be able to look at the scale and say "ok, well, i gained half a lb, what did i eat? wait, i had french fries last night, maybe i was over in sodium" or "ooh, i lost .2lbs, go me!"0
-
Daily weigher here! I totally agree.0

I weigh myself once every few weeks. So far it's always been in the negative (which is what I'm hoping for atm), but I can see what you mean as my last measurement I had lost over 4 pounds (in 2 weeks time), whereas the previous few weeks combined I lost not even a pound.0

Exactly what I do. :-)0 -
About 7 years ago I weighed myself every day and then became obsessed and not in a good way. I then stopped weighing myself when I realized I had basically given myself a problem and here I am 7 years later using this app because slowly but surely I packed on some pounds. Now I weigh myself once a week and that's working well for me. Don't freak yourself out or let a number control you. If you look good, feel good and are healthy that's all that matters. We're all bound to eat something that's not the greatest for us once in a while.0

this is why I do too. And being a woman - well, I can gain 10# in a matter of 3 days and then it slowly goes back to normal over a 7 day stretch0

I'm not following this..."I weigh everyday, I don't stress about it"
It might as well be an OCD person saying, "I wash my hands every 10 minutes, I don't stress about it".
Once you have a firm grasp of the how body weight can fluctuate there's no need to weigh every day. Relax, step away from the scale.0 -

You must have missed the part about the "lovely sinusoidal graph". Seeing that beauty makes it all worthwhile.0
