    A year ago, I was exactly where you are now!(except for being afraid of seeing the doctor). Since that time, I've lost 78 pounds. I'm taking fewer meds and I feel so much better. You are afraid because you are looking at how far you have to go and that is frightening getting started is the hardest part. Your goal should not be to lose 100 pounds...not yet anyway. Set a very attainable goal. Aim for 10 pounds. Then come up with a specific plan to achieve that goal. Take baby steps. You can't do it all at one time. I mean, you didn't put the weight on overnight, did you? All you have to do is decide to begin.
    My biggest advice is to please go to the doctor. If your blood pressure is very high, he's not going to beat you up. He's going to give you something to get it under control...that will save your life! And yeah, he's going to tell you to lose weight but you already mentioned that you need to lose weight so this is not going to come as a surprise. The doctor is on your side!
    You can keep being afraid to take that first step or you can start today. Either way, time is going to pass. You can sit and watch your life continue as it is or you can get up and do something! Even a small something! I'm on here everyday. Add me. I will be your biggest cheerleader! Even on bad days, and we all have bad days! I'm on your side too!

    The sleep apnea, I most certainly know I have it. In my last post, my snoring is something my kids have told me, and I am completely wiped out most of the time. It is bad. I also am terrified of needles, and I am scared to death of having blood work done. How I had kids, I don't know. I just want to be able to walk again, and lose weight. I know I can do it because I DID it.

    What will a doctor do for sleep apnea? Someone told me about Cpaps, but I have no idea what those are.

    I am overwhelmed with your comments and support. Most of my "friends" have been AWOL for some time now, so this is really nice and it feels safe, which is something I have not felt in a while.

    I am overwhelmed with your comments and support. Most of my "friends" have been AWOL for some time now, so this is really nice and it feels safe, which is something I have not felt in a while.

    A CPAP is a machine that keeps your airway open throughout the night, allowing you to sleep on a normal cycle instead of waking up every 30-60 seconds gasping for air. There are several styles of masks; some people have to test a few before they find the right fit. It goes over your nose and/or mouth, like an oxygen mask, and applies mild air pressure to keep your airway open. The machine has a water reservoir, as the air is humidified (otherwise, you'd wake up with wicked dry mouth, and your throat would be irritated).

    Several of my friends use them, and my mother has one.

    Your doctor may order a sleep study. Basically, you go to the hospital or a specialist, and they put you in a room with dim lighting. They hook you up to monitors so they can record your body's activity while you sleep. Once you're finished, they can determine how many times you woke up and how much true sleep you're actually getting. My friend was really surprised after hers. At one point, she'd awakened 45 times in one hour, which means she never got into the deep, healing sleep everyone needs for body repair and overall health. You don't always wake up to the point of consciousness when this happens, so you might not realize how often you're actually waking up. You might think it's six or seven times per night, but it could be fifty or sixty. That's why sleep apnea is so dangerous.

    thanks everyone, I will be on here tomorrow after work. The snoring and probable sleep apnea.....I wake up with dry mouth like I have never experienced before,

    thanks for the picture of the C-pap. As unappealing as that looks, my corpse in a bed would look worse.

    As everyone agree's the first step is to go see the doctor. It will be start in the right direction. I have more than 100 lbs to lose myself. It is not an easy journey by any means but it is one of the best choices I have made in the last 10 years. I have been heavy for the past 17 years; two kids later and I want my life back. Start off simple by reducing your calories and tracking them. One thing I have done is started using vitamin supplements which has allowed me to have more energy. Once I had more energy I was able to start working out a little bit at a time.     Hi Ireland, I totally get where you're coming from and I feel the same way...SCARED TO DEATH! I too lost a lot of weight and after about a year or so I see it creeping back on and i'm terrified. I also deal with fatigue, but have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and some thyroid issues and am working to get them under control. Please see your doctor because if you're dealing with either of my diagnosis then there are some things they can give you or suggest so you get your energy back. I am here for support and to offer it as well. Whenever you need me, just reach out and we can talk it out. Hang in there, we can do this!
  • Hi there, it sounds like you may be suffering from depression. I had very similar symptoms to you - tired all the time, didn't want to see anyone. i was existing, not living. Once you get help, with meds if you need them and counselling, it does get a lot easier. I'm now at the other side, off my meds and losing the weight I put on when I was ill. Life can get better, but you have to seek help from professionals.

    Hi Ireland, my case was very similar to yours one month ago: morbid obesity and depression. Five years ago I was avoiding to see a doctor too but suddenly my blood pressure sent me to the hospital, I was one month there (3 weeks at Intensive care unit). Now I take my medication and my bp is under control. You should go to the doctor tomorrow, he will tell you if you need medication.
    Little by little, one travels far, and after 20 days in this wonderful community of MFP emotional and physical changes are occurring in my life. Life is wonderful! Don't give up

    The first step is knowing you need a change...you can do this..and you will feel so much better when you do it.

    Step #1 done :)
    Step #2 hard work but so worth it

    YOU CAN DO IT!

    PS My blood pressure was over 200...after a month or two of eating healthy and exercising no more pills and normal blood pressure...also my start weight was 280 and I'm now over half way :)

    You can do it.

    I've lost and re-gained about 40-60lbs multiple times. I'm hoping this time will be different, God willing. Started last year and so far the 50+ lbs have not gone back on. Maybe I wont be able to keep it off. But if i don't keep trying -- for sure i won't have anything off.

    Perhaps a close family member or friend can go with you to see a doctor . I can't stand going either, but always feel better afterwards! We have to take care of the temple God gave us and I know your kids will love to see a happy and healthy mommy!

    Have you had your thydroid tested recently? Sounds like you have many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Talk to your doctor.


    This. I have an underactive thyroid and felt like this until I got on medication (and still feel like this when the medication levels get too low). Have it checked

Focus on positive... this is a life style change, a new way to live your life, free and clear of everything that is bogging you down.
    Join some groups on this site that will help motivate you, make a commitment to yourself that you DESERVE this and so do your kids. Keep your chin UP ~ you are on your way to finding a healthier you!!!!

    Stay strong. I have 90 lbs left to go and I am hurtleing my own battles as I am insulin resistant and have hormone issues. Start by first decreasing your calorie intake by half of what you are taking in now. Second start getting some exercise. If you cannot walk a block start out slow. walk to the street and back three times a day. then walk down the street and back. eventually you will get more energy. I am so obsessed with the biggest loser and to see these individuals with more than 100lbs exercise vomit and keep going. They have become more athletic than I am. Keep your chin up and as Gina from the biggest loser says, "the pain is temporary, failure is forever".

    I am not that healthy myself. I would recommend going to see a doctor though. I felt tired ALL the time too and lacked a lot of energy to do anything.......so I got my blood work done.......and was shocked everything was normal except my iron and Vitamin D. The doctor said that the reason I am lacking so much energy is because I am majorly lacking vitamin D.

    I agree with all of those who suggest that you start off ASAP with a visit to your doctor. He/She will be thrilled that you are ready to make a change and have taken action by coming to MFP. And while you're there, be certain to mention your sleep patterns and fatigue. You have classic signs of depression and would benefit from seeing a therapist. Doc can probably give you a referral to both a nutritionist and a therapist, or if your job has an employee assistance program, they might be able to provide referrals. It is hard to take that first step, but it gets easier. be sure you log on to this site every day, and you will get lots of support and encouragement. I'm sending you a friend request.     You really do need to see a Doctor now!, then you can begin on the path to fitness and weight loss, there are a lot of Folk in the same boat as you, and will give support all the way, now get your *kitten* in gear and make an appointment.

    PLEASE take the first step and see a doctor! One small step at a time will soon turn into small accomplishments and it will make you realize how strong you really are. Fatigue can be related to depression or a mirage of other things. Some blood work and a general physical can be the starting point. Call and make an appointment TOMORROW! You can do it!!!     I STRONGLY AGREE! I was in the same situation a year ago.... it took several doctors to finally get diagnosed and treated properly for thyroid disease. My hormones were all out of whack due to the thyroid and I was miserable. My heart goes out to you...please see a docotr and if you still feel this way find another. Not all docotrs are the same and many doctors refuse to let go of old ideas and treatments. Please feel free to add me as a friend if you like...

    Feel free to add me. I had over 100 to lose a few years ago but never looked at it like that. I just wanted to lose weight, didn't think about how much at first. Then I hit 100 and realised it can be done pretty easily, if you are willing. If you have kids, this should be your ultimate reason. I remember not even being able to walk to my university at the beginning, as my ankles, and knees hurt so much but you have to push trough it.

    Also, have you ever had your Vitamin D level tested? I thought my anger and sadness was due to depression, found out I was severely deficient in Vitamin D. Started on a course of a high dose. My energy levels hit sky high, along with my weight loss and general happiness.

    Thanks for sharing!! You obviously know what you need to do now is the time to step up and do it for your self and your kids!!! Going to the doctor would be a great first step that can help lead you in the right direction!! You def need to have your thyroid and blood sugar checked as well as your blood pressure. All of which can be affecting the way you feel!! I recommend focusing your goals on getting healthy then worry about the weight later it will fall into place....trust me!! I wish you strength,health and happiness!!!

    I'm so sorry that you are not doing well, but if nothing else please take the time to go see a Doctor ASAP, and talk to them about what your plans are,and just take baby step, first you crawling, pulling yourself up but holding on to things or someone (MFP) and before you know it your step become big steps, and off to running you go. Believe me I all all people know that its not easy, Am have a disability and have been in this wheelchair since the age of thirteen am in my fiftys now with very limited motion, and yes I can get very depress about what i can't do. But I can tell you that I've been on MFP sense Jan 11, 2012 so far I have lost 10 lbs and I couldn't be any happier about it, I feel great and feel as it I could do just about anything wheelchair and all it will not stop me. MFP is just great and so easy it has become my best friend, so please don't me scared, I could be your friend cheering you on because YOU can do this.:flowerforyou:
