Hi, Newb Here!

Hi all. I am from central Canada. I am married with two young kids. Guess what-- I'm fat!
I started my weight loss journey 31 days ago and I have lost almost 12 pounds (11.8 to be precise).
I currently weigh 227 down from 239, I am a female, I am 5'10". I am 26 years old.
Is a 12 pound weight loss exceptional? Or is it slow?
I am eating healthy- whole foods, complex carbs (no starches), veggies, fruits, cooking with healthy oils (olive or coconut), lean proteins, no sugar (besides fruit). I don't deprive myself but I am aware of what I am eating.
I also work out 5 days a week. I do miles of fast walking (with cardio mixed in) and 2 days per week I do weight training (weight lifting, lunges squats, ab work).
Is this sufficient? I feel like I'm failing in some way... :(
Just need a little encouragement!

Wow - give yourself a break hun

this is a fantastic start heading in the right way. You will always loose a lot in the beginning and then it will slow. this is normal. I am a tall girl like you at 5'11 and I have gone from 15st 2lb 2 years ago, yo yo'd for a while and since New year I was 14'2 and now I am 12'12 so going well so far.

Motivation is the key. Keep going.

I am injured at the moment so I can only do minimal low impact.... so I walk 5 miles a day at about 3 mph and swim 3 times a week. The weight is coming off at a good steady rate.

    Good luck and keep going.

I tried a new exercise video and it was quite high impact and I couldn't do it. So I felt like a failure.. :(
I did end up getting the motivation to do a three mile walk (it includes aerobics). It's like a speed walk- Leslie Sansone. Tuesdays and Thursdays I do weight resistance training -- Jackie Warner pyramids.
Am I being to hard on myself or is this enough?

you are being too hard on yourself.... just keep it up, it sounds like you have started this really well.

Sorry - st is short for stone (14 lbs)

    I was 15 stone 2lb - or 212lbs
    then at new year 14st 2 - or 198
    now I am 12st 12 - which is 178lbs

Welcome and...you are already doing great. You might want to think about not cooking with oils...we don't need the fat and it is a good habit to get into. You'll get your omega 3 fatty acids from salmon or similar. If you weren't looking for the tip, I appologize...but I'm a guy so I'm hardwired to try to fix things.

I would actually disagree. Oils are excellent for your brain if you suffer from depression (I do, hence the weight gain), they are all the more necessary. I also eat hemp hearts for the good fats.
I appreciate the tip but there is a difference between diet and deprivation. I won't deprive myself.
My goal is to be healthy, not just skinny. No offence taken however :)

Well you have come a long way! Congrats!
I am very hard on myself.... I don't know how to not be ;)
My goal is to be 145-150, I was 145 after I had my first child but ballooned after I got pregnant with my second :(

I am aiming for 11 stone ( 154lbs ) if I can get there. I am what they say "big boned" as well so I am not sure if that will be too light for me.

My main aim is to be fit, lean and healthy - whatever that weight looks like.......we shall see.

Just keep motivated - maybe write the weight loss on a calendar or something at home just to show you how well you are doing. Some weeks you may loose 2lbs others 0.5lbs others maybe nothing. but you are becoming healthier and fitter - thats the main thing.

Keep up the good work and give yourself a pat on the back.

I don't know if I'm "big boned". I was always skinny when I was in my teens, even after a pregnancy. After I had my second I became complacent and did a LOT of night eating. I am also an emotional eater- I will eat when I am bored or sad.
Not only that but my husband loves me chubby or skinny so he never pushed me to lose any weight HA!
I am keeping a weight diary and do weigh ins bi-weekly. My husband has also been along for the ride and has lost 16 pounds as well :D
I will try to be more positive! Thanks for the encouragement.
