I would suggest knitting over needle point, much more practical, you can make things you can actually use and the needles can be used as weapons should you need to defend yourself.

Asking some of the mfp hotties to kik with you may help you on your hunt.

Knitting or crochet, you can make yourself some useful things. I made the cowl (circle scarf) in my picture. I would suggest some scarves or hats and then maybe you can make your little girl a blanket!

Over the past few years I've taken up quite a lot of hobbies (since I have Lupus and can't exercise like I used to). Here's a wow-a-rific list:

1- Photobooking. I know, you're a dude. But you might find it satisfying. Even if you never print them.
    2- Blogging.
3- Answering every post on the forums in MFP.
    4- Guitar.
5- Writing. I am a published author, btw, so the hobby turned into something useful.
    6- Photography.
7- Graphic design. (okay...6 and 7 were already my job so that's a cop out, but I like doing them anyway).
8- Playing the violin (did this as a child...just as satisfying now).
    9- Adult choir.
10- Reading. Intelligent books, not crap, the internet, or magazines. Like, bestsellers and stuff.
11- Zombie Island. I hate that game soooo much, but it pulls me in...like a moth to a flame.
    12- Word Searches
13- Crochet. I don't crochet anything useful. Honestly...I once crocheted exactly one row that took up two skeins of yarn and then pulled it apart and started over. It's all about numbing the mind.
    14- Meditation.
15- Laying around. You should learn to get good at this. You need the rest. I know...I have learned how totally awesome it is since I got sick.
16- Take some online classes. I learned how to develop Android and iOS apps while I was sick in bed for a couple weeks. Helped me get a new job just recently.

Anyway...those are just some things I've tried out recently. I also like learning to be a little more like McGuyver by building things out of tech magazines and running an online writing company to help class up the internet a little bit. :-D

    Knit :smokin:

My Mom used to let me sit and play video games when I was sick and had to stay in bed.. I'd lay on the couch. Or read.

    * Seriously.. I worked in an arts and crafts store for 2 years.. I've seen some manly looking men buy yard. For themselves. To Knit.

You can learn how to knit/weave/sew and make your own bench shirts for when you get back at it!

I took up gardening and backyard chickens when I got out of service. Next on my list is raising goats. You're strong enough to carry several 50-lb. bags of feed at once. I can only carry one at a time. :ohwell:
