No locks on lockers

Just be cause they aren't locked doesn't mean they aren't being used. I have been doing this for years. I want a place to keep my work clothes while I work out and shower. I don't lock it because I don't think anyone is going to steal my work clothes. If they do oh well. I keep my valuables in the car.0

So are you only annoyed that the occupied locker doesn't have a lock or are you annoyed that the locker is occupied at all? Also, what if someone just put a lock on the locker and didn't put anything in it? Would you be annoyed then?
Annoyed that the lockers are occupied with no lock, when some people DO want to use them to lock their items up but can't. There is a big stretch of empty wall where I have seen people leave their bags/coats if they do not have a lock, which I appreciate and there is a big key rack at the front desk where many people hang their keys.
If someone put a lock on a locker with nothing in it, I simple would not know, it's locked.
I am searching high and low for the logic to this statement, but I can find none. A locker is either in use or it isn't. Just because it's not being used to your liking doesn't change the fact that it's being used as a locker. (or an unlocker, as it were)0 -
Here's the thing- just because I or anyone else decides to use a locker and not lock it, doesn't mean we aren't using is. There were many times when I was at a gym that I forgot my lock. Did I bring expensive stuff into the gym with me? No, but then again I never do. Does that mean that my bag with my clothes and other items is any less important? No.
So while they are not "locked" ( and unless there is a rule at your gym that states that they need to be) it does not mean that those people need them any less than you. Perhaps try and pick a non busy time to go to the gym, or be prepared to do a little searching to get a locker that you can lock.0 -
No, definately don't touch people's stuff. That wouldn't be right. But think of the extra strength training you are doing whilst opening all of the doors0

Pink barbie doors, don't weigh enough.0 -

One day, I'm just going to lock them all so they have to go to the desk and get them opened.
LOL! That would certainly teach them
I have a question, though. For all of you guys that just leave your coat hanging on a coat rack or something, what do you do with your keys? Just leave them in the coat?0 -
You all are very trusting - I NEVER forget my lock. If I did, I would walk my stuff out to the car or carry it with me.
And OP I feel you, yesterday I opened 8 "unlocked" lockers before I found 1 that wasn't full that I could use. BUT... in winter I can't complain, no one wants to walk from the car to the gym cold, but I do find it annoying.
Not sure if I would dump someone's stuff out UNLESS every single locker was taken. Then all's fair in lockers & locks.
Yes, if I forgot my lock I would take my things to the car also.
For the record, I have never touched anyone else's items and really don't plan on it.. I just become very annoyed with the situation and not being able to lock my things up because over half the lockers being used are not locked.

Honestly just the fact that I had to open 8 lockers in a row to find an empty one. If i see a lock, i know it's claimed. I wonder if they could make a "flag" to mark the outside of the locker that would let you know it's "used" instead of empty. Like those "occupied" signs on airplane bathroom doors.
Also, what if someone just put a lock on the locker and didn't put anything in it? Would you be annoyed then?
Nope - they put a lock on it, they claimed it. Knock yourself out if you don't want to protect anything but the locker itself.
My gym "removes" locks if they are left there overnight and puts the items in the "LOST & FOUND" area.0 -
When I go to the gym in the evenings, the lockers are usually pretty full. I may open 10 lockers with NO LOCK on them (but full of coats, purses, phones, etc) before finding one that is empty to use. I actually put a lock on mine, after all, isn't that the point?
In the situations where I cannot find an empty locker, would it be wrong of me to take someone's things and set them aside so I can actually USE the lock I own?
I absolutely HATE HATE HATE this. I wish I could just toss their shyte on the ground and lock up my stuff in my newly appropriated locker. That would be rude. At some point maybe somebody rifles through their stuff... A simple combination lock is like 5 bucks. I've had the same one for a good long time, they don't spoil and if I felt a need I can easily change the combination but who would try 1,2,3,4...0 -
I have a question, though. For all of you guys that just leave your coat hanging on a coat rack or something, what do you do with your keys? Just leave them in the coat?
One gym has a "key rack" hanging out front. The other gym doesn't, so I either put them in the locker or I have a carbiner clip on mine, so I clip them to me.0 -
Really?! :noway: They pay the same amount of money as you do to use the gym...which includes the lockers.0

Mandy, am I the only one that got the joke or no? lol0

Nope. But most were too cranky & hungry to get it.0 -

That, plus I had my morning donut0 -
I'd swap two peoples stuff. No stealing, just swap everything. Pretty bold to just leave your stuff there, I'd enjoy messing with people.0
-
And don't most gyms have a "use lockers at your own risk" policy? Usually it's clearly stated, they are NOT responsible for lost or stolen items. I'd be pissed. You can afford a gym membership, surely you can afford a cheap lock from Wal Mart.0

No, just swap this

lockers dont have to be locked to be used....i dont lock mine when i just store my clothes and bag at the ymca...we are not allowed to bring bags into the weight room so i have no choice but to store it in a locker...i would be pissed if i came back to the locker room and my stuff was on a bench and someone had put their stuff in the locker and locked it up....be patient and keep looking for an empty space....there is one i'm sure every time you go....take a chill and relax....we are all there for the same reason - to get our workouts done....0
-
While I would be tempted to do that, I think for a second "What if I came back from doing ym exercises and I found ym stuff on the bench instead of the locker where I left them?" I would probably want to ninja punch the woman who put my stuff there in the ovaries and possibly throw my running shoes at her for touching my stuff.
I won't slap a b%ch, but I won't hesitate to shake one.
Imagine if you caught them in the ACT of removing your property from the locker. Promptly whooped that azz and called the cops on them . How stupid would that be.

That happened to me one time when I was at a gym (on an army base)... my stuff got put on a bench. When I looked through it to make sure everything was there I found that my watch was missing.
Ever since I've either used a lock or kept my stuff with me.0 -
I wouldn't leave my locker unlocked at the gym I go to, although that said, a couple of weeks ago I put all my stuff in a locker, turned around and sorted stuff, went and locked it up and did my work out. Came back, unlocked it and all my stuff was gone...
Turns out I locked up the locker next to mine and all my stuff was untouched in an open locker next to it, which was incredibly lucky as I'd been shopping before the gym and had my wallet with a fair bit of cash sat on the top. Won't be making that mistake again.0 -

Why did I read that as "turned around and SNORTED stuff"? Regardless, thankfully your stuff was safe.
I thought of posting this thread this morning because the news ran a story about items being stole from "unlocked" lockers at a campus gym. I hate thieves and don't condone stealing but what do you expect?0 -
I would not judge it right or wrong. I just would not do that myself.0

I EXPECT people NOT to steal from others. I am old enough to remember a time and place where this conversation would not have even occurred because people DIDN'T steal anything that wasn't locked up. We used to leave our cars unlocked with the keys in the ash tray just in case someone needed to borrow our car for an emergency.
But....such is the society we live in today.0 -

I wouldn't be too happy if I came back from my workout and my stuff was on the bench. Just the fact that someone went into the locker and removed my stuff which means that you probably went THROUGH my stuff and I would have to go through the process of remembering everything I had and making sure nothing was stolen.
With that said I always lock my locker and even if I'm just going to the bathroom before I leave the gym when I'm done changing I still take my purse with me. My sister was at her gym and she unlocked her locker, went to go to the bathroom came back and her shampoos and soap had been stolen with in that small amount of time. :noway:0
