  • I'm working on giving up pop! lol.
Of course added to that is other unhealthy foods, but I'm going a step at a time.

I have just given up the quantity of food I eat. I am with the "don't deprive yourself" philosophy, so I still eat what I want just a whole lot less of it :)

I'm not giving up anything. The changes I'm making are for life. I'm giving up insulin spikes, iffy cholesterol and blood pressure, poor sleep, joint pain, skin issues, and general discomfort. ANYTHING is worth getting rid of that baggage.

My question to you: why do seem to consider this some sort of punishment that must be endured? Being healthy is a gift I am giving myself, and every day that I wake up well rested, ready to go run a few miles, eat healthy food that fuels me, breathe easily, walk up the stairs without getting winded, have my doc tell me I'm perfectly healthy (first time ever), be able to shop in any store I want (except plus size stores) is a day I celebrate what I have gained, not what I "gave up".

I gave up eating huge quantities of all the food I enjoy.
Now I eat moderate quantities of all the food I enjoy.

I gave up watching last night's Daily Show before starting work, to go to the gym instead.
Now I watch last night's Daily Show with my lunch.

This business is only as hard as you make it on yourself.

I give up nothing entirely. I make better nutritional decisions overall, but I allow myself "forbidden" foods from time to time. Things like soda, pizza, candy, etc were once a major player in my day to day diet...I still enjoy those things, but they take a back seat now to my fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

I gave up excuses and lying to myself.

I gave up daily weighing and frustration over the scale.

I gave up four inches from my waist and a few more from my hips.

    It's been fantastic.
